This is what you get when you combine Jeff Beck’s originality, David Gilmour’s taste, and Steve Morse’s technicality....Jimmy is a monster!
very good description
Monster is right. Just discovered him. Superb.
I think you forgot someone...
@@chh505
Yeah, let's not forget Jimmy Page who wrote the dang thing.
One of my favorite gitarist, jam guitarist(Gratefull Dead,Allman bros. band)perfect tone and pickup combination, neck is rounded at 20 and frets are 6000 jumbo bass. Like scalope, high action and well oiled tremolo and nut.
At 7:34, it sounded like he was playing a cello. This guy really has control of his instrument. He is exceptional at lead guitar. This is an excellent example of "saying something" with your guitar, instead of simply showing off your chops. He's clearly got the speed, but he is not unrestrained with it. He uses it when called for. and stays focused on the melody and the music. It always has to be about what you are playing, not just about how well you play it. I don't see enough electric guitar players express themselves uniquely, while still focusing on the music, and it's always a pleasure when I do.
The best guitarist no one has eve heard of!!!!
Everyone knows him. Look who he's played with, rock and jazz legends. A guest with Return to Forever, Lenny White, Allmans, Col. Bruce, The Dead, Jazz is Dead with Billy Cobham...
Those who haven't heard of him are listening to ????
well that's a title I give to Jack Pearson. but Jimmy fits that category too.
I would have said Shawn Lane, but if you play guitar you should know all these guys.
@@TheHonudiver John McLaughlin too...can't forget him.

This has completely blown my mind, Ive been playing guitar for abut 6 years and recently have fallen into a big slump and no joke this has reignited the passion. Just fantastic playing.
Jimmy page meets Guthrie govan meets Jeff beck. Amazing.
Herring predates Govan so Id leave him out the equation
Santana's there too.
He’s so insanely good with that volume pedal

this is my new favourite version of Since i ve been loving you ... what a masterpiece this is. Cheers to all of you who came this far to listen to this great guitar legend.
Jimmy Herring has managed to carve out his own harmonic and melodic language that is uniquely, and very easily recognisably HIM. Not many people can do that. Hats off to the man. His playing straddles the fine line between technique and soul beautifully. There, I said it.
I keep coming back to this video year after year. Jimmy's playing is next level here. Video's like this are why I love RUclips!
Check out "Squakin' In the Henhouse" ruclips.net/video/aBXDEd4M6Rc/видео.html
same dude. this one is so magical. goosebumps everytime i come back to it
Yeah man, right there with you 👍🏻
Jimmy makes it look Effortless. - Such an incredible guitar player with so much Soul.
I really like Steve Morse, I really like Joe Bonamassa, I really like Eric Johnson... I guarantee all those guys would listen to this and say, "Damn!" I simply prefer Jimmy's "soul" to the aforementioned players. Not saying he's "better", just that his playing speaks to me in a language I completely understand. Just wish I could speak it as well.
Well said.No one can bring the brilliance like this man.
what you said........truth.
I hear Ya...Its more free, and soulful..
Yes, I have said for many years not, it's not only his technical ability but it's his style and taste. He can literally do anything he wants and I am totally amazed and enraptured. Stevie Vai, Satriani, and the rest are all brilliant players, but Jimmy has taste and style that just reaches down into my soul and musical understanding.
Taaakes a lot to do justice to the "original" , and Jimmy more than does! Bravo!!!!
I just found this guy and he's already in my all-time top five.
WTF this guy is really good, blows me away. Love his improvisations. I see he is an educated professional musician with years of experience. Wow.
That first one by Jimmy is one of the best guitar solos I have ever heard, unreal phrasing.
Pretty sure 1:22 is one of the most surreal phrases I've ever heard come out of a guitar. Good god the soul in this guy
is that volume swrill ?
Goosebumps for sure man! How easy he makes it look. I just love the guy and that's no disrespect to all the greats that have come before and will come after him. Jimmy Herring is a once in a lifetime kind of dude! His soul and his tone! Wow!
Sounds a lot like Jeff Beck.
He completely reinterpreted it in his own way. I love it.
Intelligent playing , one of the best things I've ever heard .
Herring practices so much control with his volume and tone. It makes his "rehearsed" playing more dynamic. Similar to Jeff Beck and Derek Trucks, this style makes the guitar sound much more vocal and human-like.
Dude has such a sophisticated phrasing arsenal… it’s so nuts he’s so damn good
"There is an urgency and abandonment in his playing driven by tempered passion."
As a perfect complement to what Plant's vocals had taken the song to.
I wholeheartedly agree with your post.
How is it possible I just heard of this guy for the first time today. Amazing playing! The part from 6:40 on is insane...
OK. So my mind is blown. Shame on me for discovering this talent just tonight. A beautiful version of one of my fave tracks of all time. Love it, and consider me a lifelong fan from here on in.
This is what we call the next level musicians.
What beautiful, singing playing. There's some flash, mostly he's singing through his guitar. Wonderful.
My personal instructor when I attended GIT/AIM 89. Such a mild mannered & patient instructor! Hey Jimmy.
And a fantastic player too! And what tone!
You lucky fortunate bastard lol hahahhahaha spill it what did he teach ya ??
Supreme.Beyond 99.999% This is actually a Hymn.Unbelievable!
No idea how JH is not one of the best known guitarists out there. We need millions of masterclasses by him. One of the best ever to pick up the instrument
I had a really nice chat with Herring backstage at a Dead show back '03 when he was touring with them. He nailed Garcia to a hauntingly beautiful tee. Right beside Garcia stands Page as my all time fave guitarist. This leaves me speechless. The man's a friggin' shape shifter! Brilliant!!
One of the best versions of this song I've ever heard.
This is sooooo beautiful. I can't believe I'm just now finding this! All these players (despite the failings of the audio) are at the top of their game. Jimmy Herring shows so much explosive creativity and virtuosity, while NEVER straying from the melody!! I'm just blown away. Forty eleven thumbs up 👍
jimmy absolutely tears this song to pieces
Superb musicianship, absolutely superb! An outstanding interpretation of one of the greatest blues rock songs ever written.
What great transcendental musicianship , they all, despite their incredible chops, put the music first , incredible interpretation of a beautiful song, Jimmy rules!
I just imagined Jimmy & Jack Pearson together on this- holy shit
Insanely great playing by JH, as usual...and he's so humble.
Первый раз слышу гитариста, кроме Пейджа, который смог рассказать эту вешь на гитаре пронзительно понятным языком! Звук гитары просто восхитительный, фразировка просто блеск! Respect!
You hear it this way and you realize this is a pretty good blues composition
I could listen to him play this 24 hours straight

Fantastic band with a brilliant guitarist, also happens to be my all time favourite Led Zeppelin song!👍🎸🇨🇦
That tone is phenomenal!
Heir to the throne of rocks best living player, Jimmy Herring.
Came here by accident! ..........boy am I glad I did :0)
The volume swell makes this song so refreshing
That man has tone to die for.
Excellent!
Tone, phrasing and attitude in perfect harmony. This is what happens when you as a player listens to the song, the band and your inner voice.
It also helps to be a killer player and go by the name of Jimmy Herring…
I'm from Fayetteville North Carolina where Jimmy is from and I can personally say he is a magnificent guitar player!!
You can .... From France ....Fayetteville can be proud ..... :- )
Jimmy is hands down one of the greatest ever. He should tour on his own more often.
You know Jimmy, they should have had you cover this tune when they honored Led Zep at the Kennedy Center. This rendition would have brought the band out of their seats. I don't know who could have sang it, no idea, but your guitar work would have stood the hairs on end.
jeez I could listen to his playing all day every day
One minute ur watching/listening to the guitar, then the drums kick in, the bass is really good, then all of a sudden the keyboards steps it up! Really good band!! Would pay good money to see these guys.
It's amazing how many guitar players that they are this guy was awesome my head is up to him you're wonderful
I saw this at the LA Forum June 25th, 1972, Burn That Candle Tour at 14 years old and this IS -with my mouth open sitting here listening to this for the first time- THERE.
That m9 at 3:52 gives goosebumps new meaning!!! What an incredible performance by all!!!
I left Fayetteville too soon. I used to spend a lot of time at George's but when I lived there it was all mostly local acts and cover bands. As soon as I take off, the cool stuff starts coming to town. Love Jimmy Herring in every band I've seen him in.
Jam expert talent buyer HAROLD moved to George's after Chester's Place closed 2004, that's when Majestic Lounge hit the jackpot on touring bands coming through. I saw them all! GOLD
One of the best and most original (el-) guitarplayers in the world today (my opinion)
Wow, this is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs.... You've made a amazing instrumental cover of it!!!
Brutus pla
That’s some quality playing right there. Very fine.
That ascending riff at 7:01 kills me! I need to know what the hell he is doing there. Wish I knew at least 10% of what this guy does, what a masterful player.
One of the best songs of Led Zeppelin and a great cover.
Oh my god, he's incredible... I can't believe it
WTF, this is incredible, I’m so impressed.
ok I have never hear of this UnGODLY BEAST but surely he is one of the greatest electric guitarists in history
Chris Rocco Astoria check out his stuff with aquarium rescue unit. It's real early but a ton of fun. And oteil playing bass!

Must say, this is really impressive, never heard of this guy before, but will certainly hear more.

Beautiful. Guitar player managed to get all of the IMO best links from all versions of this song, plus make it his own. Masterpiece.
Holy Shnizzle!! Happy Birthday Jimmy !

Jimmy Herring has been blowing my mind for a long time!
Excellente interprétation d'un classique.
This might be the best thing I have ever listened to.
"Guitar's been cryin'....oh my strings they fell like rain...." Can't believe I never seen this version before this evening..... Totally unhinged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guitar is definitely cryin' !!!!!
goosebumps evertime i here this. Jimmy has such a great style, phasing, tone. This was recorded in my home town, wish i wasn't working accoss the street that night.
Don't know how I found this video and Jimmy Herring Band, but glad I did!
That's cool. I was blown away 30 years back.
great use of the volume pedal ace band and ace guitar to
coming from a girl who saw the "real Led Zep" in 77, I think this band is really good, especially with the JPJ Hammond.
Herring is a master in every aspect of the guitar.Every working part! But mostly in his own kind. This makes a pro player feel small.
Absolutely stunning player
Wow! My new favorite guitarist! Like Waters/Gilmore and Clapton mixed together into a nice fat bud!
Great playing, gorgeous tone.....😍
Just discovered JH! WOW WOW WOW!
Brilliant. Thank you for posting.
