I saw Jeff Sipe aka Apt Q258 play with Aquarium Rescue Unit many moons ago @ Berkeley Cafe in Raleigh. I sat literally 10 feet from his throne. Best right hand I've ever seen.
And that drummer is Jeff Sipe. Lives in Brevard NC and I've played with him before down in Greenville SC. He's insane, and if you pay him 100 bucks, hell come play with ya if he likes what your doing
Holy crap... I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I have never heard of Jimmy Herring until tonight. Thanks RUclips recommendations. I think I have a lot of interesting music in my future
@@shawnnerveza5563 yeah…glad you added Jazz Is Dead to the comment. I had actually kind of forgotten about that project. Gave me a reason to go back and listen again. It really is some fantastic work. Thanks!
There are plenty of guitarists who can play fast. To each their own, but for me Jimmy's combination of blues and jazz in his playing sets him apart from those with similar technical skill. His runs are so unique, I've never heard anyone play like him. And the dude NEVER makes a mistake. I've seen him in concert for 2 hours or more and he never missed a note.
I completely agree. I love his use of his whammy bar (not on this song) and volume knob. He gets the coolest effect, like a slide. One of the most unique guitarists out there. I saw him play with Phil Lesh and Friends with Warren Haynes for 4 shows, had to be some of the best music I have ever seen.
Believe it or not, I've seen him make a mistake on a video on RUclips which I just noticed for the first time a few minutes ago. It was on an easy part that I'm sure he would have liked to have back. It might be the only one he's ever made. But what an amazing player and he has the best tone I've ever heard.
The little smug smiles they give each other when they know they just killed a solo or little riff :) and the others just smile back like damn right you just did that!
i'm here to testify that Jimmy has always been amicable and has a kind gentle way about him. he's 1 year younger, went to High School together. in maybe '77 one Thursday i recall i was not playing my guitar, but out partying, and Jimmy was playing the school Talent Show, "Carry On My Wayward Son" it seems i recall. i see him on occasion, last time 2009 Raleigh Jazz Guitar Festival/Raleigh NC (John McClaughlin was also there). anyway always a treat to hear Jimmy, he's one unique guitarist with a feel and heart in his music that provides a wonderful experience.
I'd Like that a hundred times if I could. Has everything I love in a tune: great groove, tight rhythm section, Hammond, great guitar tone, and a couple of twists here and there. Thanks for the video!
If you like Jimmy, check out Derek Trucks and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Derek is definitely a disciple of Herring, and that band balances the line between being a true jam band and being a more straight-ahead blues/soul/Americana/rock kind of band. The only other player who I believe is at an equal level as Jimmy Herring on guitar is Derek Trucks (I honestly put Derek _just_ a notch higher than Jimmy, but that's more of a personal opinion), so you will certainly enjoy them. A good starting place might be any live youtube vid of them playing Midnight in Harlem. It's a great representation of what they do as a band.
This is the highest level of Dad-jazz I've witnessed.
it is potent..
"jazz"?
what does dad-jazz mean?
@@ClamsAnonymous yes ...what the f### does that suppose to mean !!!!
@@ClamsAnonymous I guess bluesy jazz-rock. Steely Dan type shit
That drummer is incredible
the great Jeff Sipe! Check out all the people he's played with through the years.
Yes! I usually come.for the guitarists. But a few drummers stand out. This cat and Dave Weikle are 2!!!
You mean apt q248?

Fucking terminator
Band is smokin and the drummer is ON FIRE.
Jeff Sipe. Killer musician, and a nice guy to boot. ruclips.net/video/2BVEvaAs2F8/видео.html

Yep. Total Ace.

Never a bad place to start. Go see him with his small acts like this where he can really let loose.
Check out his Aquarium Rescue Unit stuff. The dude is one versatile guitarist.
He's amazing. Check out old Aquarium Rescue Unit fr the early 90s. He also had a thing called Jazz is Dead for a minute that was awesome.
@@freehahahafree omg I just said the same thing!

That drummer is SICK!
That drummer is SIPE! And he's coming back in May to teach a master class!!
SICK. All players hitting on all cylinders!
Drummer Jeff Sipe look like he was just out walking the dog, then popped by for a quick jam.
was curious if that was Sipe
Actually he had been umpiring a little league game, but walked dog after this jam
Funny but this is incredible he's doing

Jimmy is a guitarist you can study for years and still find new things in there :-)

Matt Dickey
It's the pinnacle of technically adept Dad Rock.

If you haven't, listen to John Scofield. He also has a unique style that blends jazz, blues and rock.
I don't know how I got here but man am I glad I found this band. 👏👏👏👏
Widespread Panic…he kills it
love jimmy’s tone it is excellente’ it’s perfect for the blues-jazz fusion he plays killer unit!

Omg!! I can’t believe how GREAT these cats are!!
Real music, still exists, hallelujah!

Ah there are so many players I'd love to see him jam with. Sad I didn't know about Jimmy sooner, he's just great.
I would pay a hell of a lot of cash to have this quality of a jimmy herring band dvd!
I got into this guy back in the 90s with ARU. I don't care much for jam music but Jimmy Herring really is on another level.
Same

All these dudes aging like the finest wine, badass playing, can't believe I never heard of these peeps. Stellar and groovy
Love to hear the B3 plus the inimitable Clavinet. Great musicians all around! Thanks for recording this.
Hung out with Matt and seen him play on a couple occasions. I'd put him playing clavinet up there with Stevie.
Jimmy Smith incarnate. Brilliant
Been diggin' Jimmy Herring's music since I first saw him with the Aquarium Rescue Unit in Atlanta a hundred years ago. Just keeps getting better.
pure magic!!! from col hamtpon, to jerrys spotlight... this man is always spot on.
