Thank you... I am studying Nathanael with my Autistic son. I want him to know that Jesus sees us even when we feel alone , and He doesn't mind us speaking candidly... I'm helping him find kindred Spirits in the Bible...
I went to the Holy Land a year ago and I asked several questions about fig trees in the bible, and also about Nathaniel and the fig tree. No one could answer me. I was frustrated. Now, the Lord has answered, at least one question, through this video. Thank you Jesus and thank you professor Curtis Mitch. Deo gratias.
There is also another verse concerning the fig tree in Jeremiah 24:2, "One basket had very good figs, like those that ripen early; the other basket had very bad figs, so bad they could not be eaten." When you take all of these images and combine them to the moment that Jesus curses the fig tree outside Jerusalem, you enter into a single message that is being said. Today, if you look out, you will notice that the fig is in early stages of growth, since it is a late fruit in the year, same as the pomegranate (which we cannot go into now). We know that Christ was crucified early in the year and this is when he curses the fig tree shortly before his crucifixion, as a sign that we should be ready in and out of season and also serves as a warning that he will come when we are not ready, meaning early, BEFORE a harvest of righteousness is even expected. Words reminiscent of his view of Abraham when he calls him an early grape (Hosea 9:10). For Abraham was a man righteous before it was expected that the world would produce such righteousness. It very well could be that Nathaniel was sitting under the fig tree and contemplating THIS verse in his time, having in his mind the state of Israel and its teachers. He was wondering, in his mind, if he was a good fig and how good. I imagine that he had a spiritual consolation at that moment and was on his way back. Jesus sees the state of our being and in his greeting, confirms the state of Nathaniel's spirit, in answer to him. Nathaniel is confused and asks him how he could know of him. Jesus responds that he was there with him at the fig tree. This rocks him to the core and he pronounces there at that moment that there is no doubt who He could be in complete recognition. Jesus is tickled by his absolute conviction by this simple revelation and grants him even a greater consolation for such great faith. Nathaniel is likely granted a greater sight during the ascension of Jesus than the other apostles and he is overwhelmed like Elisha in 2 Kings 2:12. Greater than all this is that same promise when The Lord reinstates them further on in verse 6-7 of the first noted scripture, when the people will return to God will all their heart when they are permanently reestablished and united with all those who have taken up the work of this great baptism.
Souls, please compare the following two verses: John 1:47 (vs) 2 Corinthians 12:16. Jesus claims that Nathaniel does not deceive others. Question: What would Jesus say about Paul?😶🌫 🕵Clue: Please refer to the New Testament in Koine Greek; Strong's root word 1388.

I belong to the Assyrian Church of the East established by St. Thomas and our forefathers have documentation that Nathaniel was actually a baby during Herod’s killing of the babes. It is church tradition that his mother hid him under a fig tree to save him from Herod’s army. So when Christ says this it’s a fact that no one else knows and thus he believes that only God would know this.
We are just studying this passage on the Gospel of John and your comment popped out on my youtube list.... God’s providence! Thank you and the St. Paul centre for sharing these with all of us. God bless you!

Back then not everyone had access to people with masters and phd’s in theology. School teachers have education degrees and I cannot speak for what amount of teaching they get on theology if any. Study bibles from Catholics was the lay persons access to bible interpretation from theologians. Also their priest, deacon and bishop could be approached with questions. If you watch The Chosen it is portrayed so beautifully how Jesus saw him under the fig tree. How Nathaniel went with Philip and he told Nathaniel to COME AND SEE! He knew Jesus immediately from his seeing him under the fig tree????? One of the very best scenes in THE CHOSEN!
Scion = SAI-uhn: : A detached living portion of a plant (such as a bud or shoot) joined to a stock in grafting and usually supplying solely aerial parts to a graft.: descendant, child, especially a descendant of a wealthy, aristocratic, or influential family.
Tradition teaches that Jesus’ comment touched him because when Nathanael was a baby, his father hid him under a fig tree so he would not be slaughtered.
Nathaniel was in the Fig tree ,put by his mother so king Herod could not kill him, well hidden ,Jesus said I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you
Revelations 18:8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. All Praise To The Most High!
There is a problem with the Zachariah connection in that in verse 9 it is written that the day mentioned in verse 10 would be when the iniquities of the people will have been removed. That does not happen until the Lord’s death. That would be the day mentioned in verse 10. What must be understood is why would Nathaniel have been under a fig tree? At the time of this event the rabbis taught that if you want to understand the scriptures you should study them under a fig tree. This goes back to the Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the tree they realized they were naked and quickly reached for the first thing they could use to cover themselves. The rabbis believed that it was a fig tree. If the fig tree was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, what better place to study or meditate on the scriptures. Jesus’ reference to Jacob would have indicated to Nathaniel that knew what he had been studying and meditating on. I think that Jesus knowing what Nathaniel was just thinking about would have been more likely a scenario than Nathaniel having to recall what was written in Zechariah and Isaiah. In my opinion.
It is important to note also the first 3verses of Zechariah 3, in that the unclean clothes of the High Priest Joshua represented the sins of Israel at the time, and Satan the Adversary acting as Prosecuting Attorney was standing by Joshua's side, resisting the angel who forgave the sins, acting for God, rebuking Satan, and cleansing Israel. Today if a Christian claims God has done this for them, such as I do, many Jews mock these claims, and bring condemnation in themselves, but they will try to accuse me and others of witchcraft. By doing this they are conducting an inquisitional persecution against certain Christians, and interfering in their freedom to worship!
Wait! I thought Catholics were more into tradition and ritual than scripture. Seriously, since entering the Church two Easters ago, I have seen the Bible become more alive, more multi-dimensional than at any time in my 40+ years in Protestantland.
The dialogue you have spoken about Yacob/Jacob is incorrect. Jacob was not a deceiver. He was pure and kept his mind on spiritual things, the things of God. That is why God loved him. He got the blessing that God declared he would have, the birthright, the transfer/supplanting from his brother to him. This was declared while he was in his mother's womb. Rebekah commissioned him to act like Esau to prevent the wrong son from getting the blessing. Esau was so carnal and reckless that he was not worthy of it. God hated Esau for his carelessness and reckless actions, him being so carnal.
Jacob was human like everyone else, and he was humbled after he received the blessing, by God allowing his father in-law to deceive him in turn, making Jacob realize his fleshly lust for Rachel and he had not minded making Leah feel dejected because she was not physically attractive. And many other things that Jacob was not entirely spiritual, although possessing the Spiritual Blessing.
@@cherylmburton5577 Jacob did not need to be humbled or tricked. Laban tricked him because Laban was not straight forward and was full of tricks. Jacob, on the other hand, was not deceiving. His name does not mean deceiver. It means "one who supplants". Why do you think God says that He loves Jacob but hates Essau? Jacob was God centered and God minded. He had a desire for the birthright while Essau hated it. When Jacob's asked to receive it for the exchange of the food, he made the terms CLEAR AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I hate that people defame him name and character as though he tricked his brother. Rachel was the one who told Jacob to pretent to be Esau. If you have a problem with that, speak ill of Rebekah, not of Jacob. God is not pleased when people do that.
@@cherylmburton5577 Also, Jacob did not have a heart for Leah as she was not his pick. It had nothing to do with her looks or her tender eye. If has to do with the fact that he set to marry Rachel but then Laban threw Leah in there. How would you feel if someone did that. There was not talk about that to Jacob by Laban. He did that without consulting Jacob or asking if he would work for the other daughter too. Jacob was a business man and all about keeping his word. He could have told Laban that he was angry and walked on, not even getting the other daughter by doing seven more years of work, but he stayed and worked. That shows how strong and committed he was/is. Please stop trying to make him out to be carnal. It was Esau who was all carnal. He was so carnal that he chose any ole wife and ones that grieved his parents. On the other hand, Jacob chose a wife of God's people and married the extra one (Leah). God has always been pleased in Jacob, even when he was fighting in his mother's womb. Read the scriptures and seek the Lord to understand.
