Most moving scene in season two: Nathaniel‘a recognition of divinity of Jesus and Jesus says “There it is.” What He waits for… that moment where He’s got ya! It is not a book moment, not a belief, not accepting Him as Lord and savior, no, the whole mind , body soul recognition. God must be experienced, all the rest is hearsay.

Speaking of sackcloth and ashes, we Catholics have an ancient practice done on Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of Lent and prepare to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. Before the liturgy of the Eucharist is done, we walk up to the front and the priest will use ashes made from blessed palm branches from last year’s Palm Sunday to mark our foreheads. The mark is in the shape of a cross and the ashes are an outward sign of penance for our sins. Most of us won’t wash the ashes off until we have to shower or bathe. Non Catholics and even the excommunicated are allowed to receive the ashes on their foreheads.

There's a quote from a significant 20th-century artist that keeps popping into my head, "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." - Pablo Picasso. I'm sure that Picasso was not much of a religious man, but to me, this quote is profoundly spiritual and applies to Nathanael's/Bartholomew's and many others' lives. We may think we know where God intends
to lead each of us, but we often get it wrong. Like, St. Francis of Assisi misunderstood God's charge to build his Church. So he went out fixing up a church building when God meant the Church proper, not just a building. Nathanael/Bartholomew made the same mistake. I found this scene very moving.

I was once in a very long trial I called the "10-year takedown", came out at the end of it with nothing. There was a day I bowed low on the ground, grabbed a handful of nearby dry dirt and dumped it on my head. Didn't even care about dirt in my hair. There was something so emotionally satisfying and physically appropriate about expressing my grief and loss in that way - and I was fully aware of the ritual of tearing one's clothes and pouring dust on one's head.

I just finished season 2 and want to thank all those involved for this wonderful gift.
I am, what you might call, a budding Christian. I have not yet fully leaned into the faith, not because I do not want to but because I do not yet feel ready - In some ways I believe that it is God saying to me “not yet”.
Recently I have been praying for guides, lo and behold I discover this show. The humanisation of the stories has touched me in a way the bible has not yet been able to, that isn’t to diminish the role of the bible in my spiritual life, quite the opposite, it’s has deepened the role. Now I can read the bible with an understanding that the apostles are just like me, trying to figure this whole thing out. Even Jesus is presented in this way, though very much not like me - which creates in me a drive to be like Jesus or understand how I can better follow Jesus.
With all that, I thank you again! And look forward to season 3

My score card indicated that I failed both test by less than two or three questions. I was devastated and frustrated, angry, tired, you name it. I saw this scene after a few days and immediate opened my bible to read this story. I 100% ran back to the Father. He is good and faithful to remind me that He hears, He sees me. I can and will take these test again, and in failure or success I will not run from Him. I lead worship for the youth and college at my church. I took it as a sign of mourning for what he thought was calling of God that he was forced to give up in favour of what his true calling of God was, which is encouraging because sometimes our dreams even of how we thought we would serve God, are allowed by God to fail, so we could be directed towards something better. The calling of being the Messiah's apostle and the building of the true, eternal temple was much higher than serving God by building temporary places of worship.

We thought it was the foreman and the laborers intentionally not complying with Nathaniel's specifications which caused the accident and unintentional death while achieving their goal of ridding themselves of him the prideful Jew. These discussions are so enriching. Comprehensive insights pour out. I come away knowing that failure can bring freedom in so many areas. As I become aware it's not my ability, but allowing grace to step in as I'm a vessel to carry it through. Yes, that's very freeing for the work He wants us to do.

From building synagogues, to helping build the Church.
Also, related to the scene but unrelated to the subject:
    Who is the bushcraft aficionado?
I keep spotting items being used as props and wardrobe (either the same or identical green shemaghs on Little James, the guy who carried Matthew in his cart, others; Nathaniel's ferrocerium rod used to start the fire under the fig tree; the blades used by Philip and Matthew when stripping bark, the backpacks and bags made of leather).
Was wondering if the show had a supplier, and if it was Dallas or someone else who came up with the idea to use these things?

Still in common in the southern outback-villages of Germany between Bavarian*Forrest and Black**Forrest an original katholic tradition was to put ashes on your head on Wednesday after Bavarian „Fasching*“-/Allemanish„Fas(t)en**Nacht- Tuesday knowing about having sinned on the festival days before to welcome springtime, and starting 40 days of lent before Easter.(the night before lent**). The proverb „to put ashes on my head“ also means to feel guilty for what I have done wrong to somebody/everybody by confessing it in public, like „mia culpa, mia maxima culpa“ - an act of repentance. (Low from Munich*BY and Fribourg**, BW, both in Deep South of 🇩🇪)

Nathaniel's greatest moment was when he asked God if he sees him? That question has been asked many time and yes I've asked God this and God do you hear me? God why don't u answer? Funny thing is he always answers but not in the way I wanted. This has been one of my fav episodes.

One cannot "dig deeper" to find the truth behind human stories this old. One merely hypothesizes. Almost anything could have been anybody's back story. However, to those familiar with the Gospels, certain things are less likely to have been the back stories.

That Nathanial scene is so great because his failure was also one of his biggest successes! He found his true purpose. The project he was working on was WITHOUT GOD... lol... and now with God Nathanial is better than ever.

If you read your Bible you’d know the ashes are part of a state of grief and repentance in the Jewish life. When king David chested with Bathsheba and they had a baby and baby was sick.. David dressed in sackcloth and ashes and didn’t eat for 7 days! When they reported the baby was dead David immediately arose dressed in his king garments and ate!!! Read your Bible do you know this movie is biblical! Chosen is doing a great job bringing the Bible to life!

I like that they include the Rabbi because the Jews are God’s chosen people and part of God’s family. As Christians, we are basically the younger spiritual siblings of the Jews and we should respect them.
