    i normally dont like videos where people are making things but dont explain what their doing but this is well put together with no slow dragging sequences so it gets my seal of approval.

    Gotta love how ignorant people are,
    "Make a foam cutter" - "You should use a foam cutter" - Jimmy is a Master Craftsmen, like he doesn't know whats best for the job for fuck sake.

    • @wupme
      @wupme 6 лет назад

      DOOMGUY aparrently he didn't knew what was best. Hate to burst your bubble but jimmy is good with wood and metal, not with foam. Everytime he uses foam his projects are mediocre at best.
      And this piece just proofs that he is simply not good at this.

  • @Hexlattice

    I'm a little disappointed that he didn't just use a solvent like acetone to dissolve out the polystyrene...

    • @jonathanlourador3521
      @jonathanlourador3521 9 лет назад +15

      +EngineerGunter He needed some Polystyrene to fit his head perfectly.Without any polystyrene it would wiggle allot.

      Where would be the fun in that?

  • @MrLargeWalrus
    @MrLargeWalrus 9 лет назад +17

    I know I'm late to the party, and that most comments criticizing the piece were made months ago, but I'd just like to say, I do not understand why no one gets that the reason Jimmy didn't go ham on this piece and make it perfect is because he didn't want to. Everything else he makes always has a practical purpose and so he puts all the time and effort in the world into them because he wants to. This Stormtrooper helmet was most likely made a a fun side project that he obviously is not going to use for more than a week out of the year, and so he didn't spend hours upon hours perfecting the design and painting and finishing and all that. It just wasn't a priority. So all you saying that he ruined the piece and that its his worst, or that he could have made it better, no, he made it exactly how he wanted it. Could he have made it better? Absolutely, Diresta could have made it better than anyone, but the fact is, he just didn't want to. Theres nothing wrong with what he made.

    • @kedwa30
      @kedwa30 9 лет назад +1

      I hear ya! It was a Halloween costume, not meant to be a working replica. I'm sure if he was going to make it with a more practical purpose in mind such as making an actual helmet with an air filter built in, then this would have been a lot more involved and it would have been a lot more polished at the end. :)

      Just google XPS Foam and see what pops up locally for you. It's not something that's readily available where I'm at, so I have to special order it in. Other locales have it right in Lowes and Home Depot.

    Wow amazing job, especially free hand with a kitchen knife! A little slap dash for my taste (but I am an OCD perfectionist), but great for Halloween, certainly considering how crap the costumes you can buy are (and extortionate prices!).

  • @Hellsong89
    @Hellsong89 10 лет назад +3

    Looks cool, but i think he left it in half assed state and could done proper job with finishing. Also i though that this was only going to be peace where fiber class mold was made and then proper fiber class version of it, but yeah nice video how to make pre mold^^

    • @LeighMorganREDSHIRTMEDIA
      @LeighMorganREDSHIRTMEDIA 10 лет назад

      It was for a Halloween costume. He probably could have done a better job but I think the purpose of this video was to show people how quick and easy you can make a costume helmet using a few simple tools over a short amount of time. It certainly won't win prizes for being 'movie accurate' but would look great out on the street or at a party at Halloween.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 10 лет назад

      Zaeed Massani Well your right on that, but i felt that he could showed that yes here its ready fast and furious style and after that continue video like... "ok heres how it looks like if used some more time fine tuning"
      Sorry but i'm bit perfectionist my self so i demand all most perfect results(with knowledge and ability you got as limiter) from my self and some what people around me. Doing something half assed is worst that never doing it at all. Also in DiResta case i have seen about all hes videos and he does amazing work, so seeing half done helmet like this was disappointing..:/

  • @TheJacklamb
    @TheJacklamb 10 лет назад

    what all the nay sayers fail to realize is that Jimmy is an artsit first and then a craftsman and he creates as he sees it and not how it is to be, so to his eye its perfect because thats what he sees

    Thanks for sharing your process. Acetone is great for melting away white EPS Foam. Not sure if it would work on the blue insulation foam. It might help with dissolving the little bits of foam inside. CHEERS!

    • @SmokeFlame1
      @SmokeFlame1 9 лет назад

      It works on blue foam but it's quite messy. You get a syrupy, sticky ooze, but patience will get you there. Anyone trying it should wear a properly filtered mask. Quite Noxious as you know.

    Hey Jimmy,
    I think your work is incredible. I'm trying to make a Puppet theater and wanted to get some advice. I don't want to use the typical PVC and fabric route so l'm making the theater out of Plywood, foam and other misc. stuff. I'm looking for a way to make the styrofoam smoother and more durable. Thanks for keeping us inspired!

    • @Wieselkatze
      @Wieselkatze 9 лет назад

      you could overlay the styrofoam with clay and sand it smooth, that way you have a nice surface and its quite a bit more rigid than without it
