DiResta: Skull Belt Buckle

- In each bi-monthly episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PT), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. On this episode of DiResta, Jimmy casts a cool looking skull belt buckle, maybe to hold up his badass leather-aproned work pants from the last episode.
For more info on this video, tools, materials, sketchbook images, and Jimmy's notes on the build, check out this post on MAKE: blog.makezine.c...

The amount of fun you can get with a set of wood chipping tools (or whatever those are called), a piece of wood and some creativity/imagination. Pretty awesome.
Welding, locksmithing, woodworking, drawing... Where did he learn to do all that stuff? This guy is amazing!
These videos are so satisfying to watch.
Madam thank you for the love !!!! Happy to inspire !!
*You are a great painter and wood carver! My respect!*
Favorite parts of your videos is when your hammering something. It just sounds and looks soo cool.
Hi!
Mr DiResta, you are a the true Jack of all trades!
I am impressed and inspired by your videos.
Keep up the good work!
Greetings from the Middle of Sweden.
This is flipping superb. Really wish Jimmy would cut down on the CNC machining on his own channel. Im all for technology but stuff like the above vid shows how damn talented he is and shows what’s in reach for those of us (most of us!) without a CNC machine.
I have no words to explain this craftmanship... excelent!
I took metal shop back then in high school and the sand mixture is sand and water mixed together and leaves a impression of the model that Jimmy used. A lot of casting are made by using this method..
Am i the only one that finds the sound hypnotic
+ozstriker1984 no this sound is hypnotic :)
It's really soothing
+saulsebrook Lol, I fall asleep to his videos almost every night
no
Nope. Me too.
Watching the carving process is gratifying...
Those sounds are so satisfying for some reason...
Seeing6 the geniral disaray of your work bench brings back memorys of my own training in the makeing of jewelry business.
Love it! Any day that has a new DiResta video is a good day.
I hope I never stopping finding videos from you that are so cool - trying to find ideas of what I can make with a small 120VAC AIM 96J kiln
Handmade belt buckle, watch fob, and tool chaps... I have few outright idols but Jimmy DiResta is soundly amongst them!
This is no "Skullduggery". This is the master at creative creations! Nice buckle Jimmy!!
Always a good day when there is a new video posted !
Saw a new DiResta video was posted. Made my day!
I love sand casting....nice job as always Jim
Super fun to watch this one!!
great idea with keeping the sound through the time lapse. that was my favorite part.
Hey DiResta, my hero, Can you show us how to make one of those killer yellow work shirt/jackets?
Have you ever thought of changing your name from Diresta to Badass? You make some cool stuff
Weiser Adler Why would you say such a thing?
it turned out looking really cool.
Master Craftsman is such an understatement.
no words just pure talent
Very good work and great filming - thanks
I love the little noises.
I love Skulls stuff!!! This is awesome Diesta!!!
Thanks! This inspired me to make my own belt buckle and video about it.
diresta you have an amazing studio and skills man thanks for these tutorials really
Jimmy you are my Maker hero! Love your videos! Keep up the good work man!
DiResta, the man with more free time in the world
A lotta fun to watch! Awesome work man!
cool Jimmy love watching you build stuff
I wanna cry . . . you make it look s...............o simple
Parabéns pelo belo trabalho! Grato por compartilhar! (Portguese - Brazil).
Congratulations on the good work! Grateful for sharing!
That is some casting sand, just like regular sand so it can get in all the tiny little nooks but it sticks together really well when compacted
I find also very impressive, the design of the belt attatchment. I know that it is not a big deal, but you did it with only one piece of iron strip, by bending it correctly, and i would have thought something more complex and difficult definitely .
And also i had never seen this clay mold beign made in reality, except from some movies or documentaries that only show you one bit and not the whole proccess, which is something i like with your videos instead.
Dude this was so well done. Thx.
Snazzy ! While I am sure you could never tire of being told how awesome you are ..I am sure you hear it a lot but I have to say your talent exceeds what artists ,sculptures designers ,craftsmen , wood workers ,artisans and makers all aspire to be! You are all of these and more ..you are an immense talent technically and creatively !Thanks for the inspiration !
bloody brilliant very gifted DiResta
If I tried to do that I'd wind up in the emergency room without a doubt.
And if you tried to do that _in_ an emergency room, you'd probably end up in prison.
You are such an artist man!
A-10 Warthog in Action by DiResta
Respect from Romania
its soldering tin
it melts when you heat it up with an torch its mostly known for cables and motherboards you see a small dot of silvery stuff where the cable connects
Amazingly awesome!
Super
Now that is REALY cool - well done
I could watch this on loop for a week. Lol awesome!
Badass buckle from a Badass builder. Couldn't help but notice that you did not sign this piece. Curious...
ASMR. This is an excellent example of ASMR.
I guess this is the first video where demonstration of the output is at the end! lol :)
Awesome as always
DiResta is the man!
Fun fact, in order to save time editing, he actually holds up the object @ 1:30 for a full 2 hours, just so it would take up more than a single frame.
You just inspired me. I'm going to give it a shot sometimes this weekend or next weekend.
It might be considered pewter, or pewter might be ok, usually it's brittle though. In the description to this video it has a link to the make magazine website, from there you can find what exactly he used to make this.
Respect for you Maestro !
BOSS WORK MATE! HAPPY XMAS.
THAT.... WAS...... AWESOME!!!!!!!
amazing work Jimmy !
That's amazing and amazingly simple... Thanks!
Dude you're talented.
That's awesome. I love skulls.
This is my favorite video ever!!!
❤️❤️the sounds are beautiful❤️❤️
I love your videos! I just found your channel YT surfing yesterday... Been hooked!
The metal he uses is Tin alloy 178-888. All the materials used are listed. click the link in the description.
Great job they look amazing!
Amazing and multifaceted.
That was relaxing to watch
Pewter is very cool to work with. GREAT JOB
Are you sure that it's not Gallium?
I mean it could be Gallium, the stuff in the video, it fills all these requirements:
Melting point: 29.77 °C
Boiling point: 2,205 °C
Phoenix Wright Gallium melts at 85.57 °F. You wear a belt buckle made out of Gallium on a hot day over 90 degrees, don't you think it would melt?
MrAlittle5150 Correct, forgot about Fahrenheit.
Phoenix Wright It is Tin alloy 178-888.
Now this,was AMAZING!
Makes it look SOOOO easy...
yep krylon .. any thing black thank you !
You inspire us ...... Gracias!!!!!
cool loved the ending.
o . . . man . . . not only did you make look easy . . . you used the same mold twice . . . awe Man !
:O this makes me want to run to my shed just to find out that i don't have skills
Funniest thing i read all day
this is going to be the first thing I actually try and do at home. it looks too easy to mess up.
Nice Pirate buckle.. Jack Sparrow would like it..are you using pewter?
Best video yet
Diresta for president.
Listening to Beethoven while watching this is so relaxing... I can't wait to have a comparable set of tools, myself.... someday...
always awesome to watch you work :)
Very Nice work Great Job
Very cool!
I am curious as to how many hours it took to do the carving? It looks like you put a lot of detail into it.
that would make a great embellishment for your pirate chest! :)
I legit came here for tips on making this for cosplay and now I know how to make a real belt buckle lol! Even though I can make this with less work it’s still awesome to see how the real thing is done
NEAT great craftsmanship.
Yup you're awesome!
GoPro have an app that connects to your camera over wifi, I'm sure other companies do too.
I believe it's a kind of sand, not clay. it's just packed down so hard that it retains the shape.
Gnarly, great work
brilliant video! cheers!
I envy your creativity
yes gopro the whole vid..thx u
maestro , genio . admiró mucho tu trabajo amigo
