Watching Phil's videos is like having a really nice, cool, unpretentious friend/acquaintance who knows a lot about gear.
I love when every youtuber is doing the same product review. Phillip puts the product provided, I really appreciate that.
Phil is THE best.
I’ll be honest, I’m starting to find it a bit of a turn off, these products that appear on all the big channels on the same day. I’d rather watch a review from someone who’s actually bought it and spent some time with it, but I mean no disrespect at all to Phil when I say that as he does do nice balanced reviews.
Looks like the Diezel is next on the list of these on the miniamp website - I’m hoping they do a Soldano SLO at some point!
@@guitardave Yeah, I feel the same way. It's a smart move for the amp companies, but I don't feel the need to watch a lot of different people cover the same device at the same time.
I like his reviews more than anyone else.
@@guitardave True, but it's not every day an interesting guitar product for the masses is launched and these guys are hunting them down for a living and part of the same circles of networking. They all get offered these amps at the same time and they find time to review it during the embargo period. Second it's removed, they want to capitalise on any potential interest as if others beat them to it, their review might not get much traction.
It's both part of the plan to actually make a living, part of the plan to legitimately grow as a channel and part of the plan to keep these product opportunities arriving on their doorstep to continue part one and part two.
Real "consumer" reviews appear in the small channels some time later, because all these guys get the head start and likewise need it to stay on top in this niche.
I appreciate that you use the Squier in some parts so that us regular people will know how it sounds. Good job, Mr. Phil
Mine just arrived over the weekend. Since the 100w Ecstasy has been an amp I've wanted to own but could never afford, I really like how this captures the sound of the blue and red channels at a volume that you can play in an apartment. I never thought of going into the return for cleans, but I have a DeArmond guitar that came from the factory with a very hot bridge pickup and a very cold neck pickup. Was thinking of changing them both out for a more traditional set of pickups, but I'll keep it because it lets me get usable cleans and those sweet juicy Bogner drive tones simply by moving a pick selector switch. Killer amp that can get loud enough into a decent cab to play with a drummer, tons of fun and that's my favorite thing about it! Cheers.
If these are indeed targeting beginners and enthusiasts, then it’s really teaching you how to tame a single channel without the optional paralysis that most modelling amps and solutions bring to that market.
This thing sounds great regardless of target market, better than the Diezel and Friedman minis of the same form factor based on what I’ve seen on RUclips.
Great work as always Phil, you’re an industry leader in your own craft.
Better than the SLO too.
Just picked one of these up on clearance for $120. It’s hilarious how good it sounds for the money.
I wish they had these types of amplifiers in the early 80s when I first started playing guitar.
Even the 90s and early 2000s were full of terrible amplifiers. The line 6 products used to be such trash they've come so far lol
I love it when companies make affordable gear that doesn't suck.
Seems like this is the approach Fender should have taken with the Tone Master series--about the cost of a boutique pedal, and not almost the cost of the tube amp.
Not if it cannibalizes other product lines.
Yeah but the profit on these are likely higher than the the real thing…. How many of the real thing are actually selling? Mini amps and modelers are hugely popular. Forget the price of these expensive heads, how many have the space to really crank them? I think just the pros are using the high priced high watt amps anymore.
I kind of think fender should reduce the tonemaster pricing a little bit and increase the valve amp pricing to offset it. You can’t make the tonemaster stuff too cheap other it’ll wreck the perceived value.
this cost 300 bucks and you still have to buy a cabinet/speaker to play it through , another 300 bucks for a decent one , so not as cheap as it seems ...
Fender sucks sometimes, everything they do they try to sell it like its the ultimate gear, ...and its just common as F.
The strat sounded so good thru it! Was not expecting that.
Excellent demo! Thank you for showing us the clean setting. I had the Soldano and couldn’t get any clean out of it. Great gain, but nothing else. Thanks again!
That really overdriven sound screams Facelift-era Alice in Chains. Which is a good thing. Scary is truly on the wall.
Scary’s on his way!
Watch where you spit!
jerry cantrell was a bogner amps user, (shiva and ecstasy back in the days, now he uses friedman). im def considering buying this RN.
Yes sir
@@ramses1134 Mine arrived over the weekend, It's a blast! Nails Dirt/Facelift tones.
To me this one sounds better than the Friedman Mini
Agree
I tried the Friedman, Diezel and the Bogner and I absolutely agree with you.
Phillip you RULE! Just bought the BE pedal AND this mini Bogner- the power amp thru Return is BEAUTIFUL! Whoa
THANKS FOR THE DEMO. It sounded the best out of all the mini amps.
I would probably be most interested in the diezel one coming out if I were to get one
I’m hoping for a Soldano SLO one!
Just ordered the BE pedal and the Bogner head haha. Can use em BOTH 😝🤘🏻
Bogner has the most tone options of the 3.
Sounds nice for sure. Solid state and yet they couldn't put a reverb circuit in it? Great review tho Phil!
I wouldn't mind trying it out. Good little amps are great for young student's and gear gadget type people. Phillip always does an honest review. Tnx!
The front grill looks like an Egnater Tweaker 👀
Wrong. The Egnater “looks” like the Bogner. Trust… Bogner isn’t the one “copying”
For what it's worth, reinhold bogner designed the tweaker series so that makes sense
This thing looks so much like an Egnater Tweaker! The logo and tan basket weave are very similar looking. And even the font on the control panel is pretty close!
@Alan Martinez I have heard that those little things are the business!
Tweaker copied the og Ecstacy but yes both are super cool!
Great job again, Phil!
Thanks for keeping us informed.
@Phillip McKnight You should revisit the Joyo Bantamp with the newer Bantamp II series. Things like this should really be a consideration before something like the Mini Friedman and Bogner if you're not buying just for the novelty factor. They're over $100 cheaper and have a tube preamp section, 2-channels with independent gain and EQ, effects loop, and Bluetooth for streaming music to it.
I have the Orange micro dark head great little piece of Equipment Great video 🤘
Thanks for all your hard work to make these video, all good stuff!
I really like what Boutique Amps Distribution is doing with these mini heads. I realize that the Soldano mini head isn’t going to be as good as an SLO, but at least we know that it was built to Mike Soldano’s tastes… We get his ear for an affordable price. Same applies to the Bogner
I looked up Boutique Amps Distribution (thanks for pointing me in that direction) and saw they also are involved with the SYNERGY series. When Phillip mentioned the Mini BE "associated" with the Mini Bogner, I thought this might be similar to the Synergy stuff, but as a Mini Amp. Could be? Maybe? Only time will tell. I'd jump all over Mini SLO for home use.
Is a Soldano SLO mini head definitely happening? Would be very interested in that, although there’s a part of me thinking that the £299 it would cost could be put towards buying a real SLO 30 instead…
@@guitardave Those old Jet City amps were pretty cool, designed by Soldano, not too far away from a SLO if I remember right. They used to be a very popular amp to mod with a few people doing crazy things like making full blown SLO's, to re-voicing them like a plexi. I don't know if it's still a thing or not.
@@BigMateo24 I used to have a Jet City 22H! It was a good amp, but didn’t have a proper clean channel which was part of the reason I sold it. Brilliant value for money though. If you look up Jet City Custom it looks like they’re still in business, with more custom options than before! :-)
Have to say, after your little teaser over the weekend, I was looking out for this. And what do you know, just on schedule - Monday swings around and “reviews” start popping out like mushrooms after rain. In my feed I saw Rabea first, and immediately realized this was what you were hinting at. Minutes later Pete Thorn’s vid showed up, and from there… I actually LOLed. Love these guys but figured I’d just as well wait for yours.
Interesting product, especially for mobility. Seems like you could put one of these really good tube pedals like a Kingsley or a Victory V4 through the FX loop and create a monster multi channel portable rig. It’s not cheap for sure, but I expect it would sound really good and the logistics would be super comfy!
All of the sudden everyone loves solid state amps.
especially when they look like a 'Bogner or Friedman'. Don't worry, in about 10 years time we will all be paying $3000 for Boutique SS amp made in a country where it cost virtually nothing to make the amp. Notice high end guitars companies(Strandturd example) to meet demand, set up factories in developing economies but NONE share the cost savings. All it took was a few stupids desperate for a Turdberg, to pay premium price for a guitar made in a country where the exchange is in excess of 10,000+ Vs. 1 USD.
I've watched a few demoes of these, and this is the best one I've seen
Hey.... the first Bogner I can actually afford! :-)
That little Bogner amp sounds GREAT 👀
Soon as I saw THE SOLDANO Mini
I had to have it.
And.....
It’s amazing.
Wish that it had a foot switch
And about 10-15 more watts of power
A concentric gain knob.
To independently work with the foot switch
This thing through a Marshall 2x12
Is Great. Add the features that I just talked about
# 1 Gig Amp Ever !
Happy Customer.
lol you weren't kidding, like 20 youtubers showcased this amp today
Thank you for putting out good information and as always appreciate your honesty 👍
I did not expect that big of a sound. Pretty cool.
As much as I love these little mini heads, I'm at the point that I'm buying the preamp pedals and running them into a Fryette PS-2. Get the preamp tones, natural power tube compression/breakup, effects loop, reactance amp for recording, etc.
Wish these little mini heads were around when I first started playing though.
same and I already have two massive tube amps so no real need but if I had these available several years ago when I was learning they would be way better than the crappy practice amp I had at the time.
I just have a hard time with these little amps and the prices. Seems more versatile, economical and sonically better to just put the money towards a good amp.
I completely agree. I suppose there’s a target market of tiny amp collectors. The smallest I go is 15w.
I suspect this will show up on the used market in a year, in great numbers.
There’s generally a huge jump in price between the solid state mini heads and the amps they’re emulating in this series
Even if you want to stay solid state, you can pick up the Orange CR60 combo for $550 (or 120watt head for $450). 12in speaker, 60 watts class A/B, good effects loop, foot switchable clean/ distortion, foot switchable reverb, and circuit based on the big Orange Rockerverb.
These mini amps are meant to be a fun novelty, and for that I think they're cool.
@@freezingCode Dying to try an Orange....
that little thing is making me like it - it's spiffy
I use an Orange Micro Dark to practice with my band. One of the best features is the cab-sim'd headphone jack output. I use this to plug straight into our little mixing board for our PA. Perfect enough guitar sound every time and super easy. It seems like a miss for Bogner and Friedman to exclude this feature.
Sounds like any decent distortion pedal to me ...but that Deizel? Daaaaang... thats the one I'm stoked to check out................. well possibly... depends on if it has a clean channel.. I need a good hi gain channel for sure.. but I like some good cleans as well
I hear more string noise when it was turned down. Cool amp, I like it, I’ve always been curious about Bogner amps… now with all these minis out there. I have the orange micro, but the first issue without the effects loop unfortunately. It does push a 4x12 cabinet though, impressive… thank you… 🎸🤓🎸🙏☮️
So did Bogner copy Egnater's look or did Egnater copy Bogner's look?
Egnater copied Bogner🙄 the fact everyone is acting like a $2000+ amp line copied a budget amp line, is extremely cringeworthy
@@sinisterminister9920 Who is everyone? You think Egnater is budget?
I think a lot of people are missing the point with these amps. They’re not intended to be your one and only amp that you gig with etc. they’re supposed to be fun, but functional. Definitely not your only rig but cool enough and with the right features to justify owing. They are for disposable income. You do not NEED one but you might want one. Funny thing is if Bogner had put an effects loop and a 30 watt power amp into the ecstasy pedal everyone would be like hey that’s cool, but because it looks like a head everyone’s a critic. Complaining about this thing compared to a full featured amp is like complaining that the Marshall mini fridge doesn’t have an ice maker and water dispenser!
These amps sounds amazing. I hope the diezel is just as good.
I noticed 2 features it lacks that I would like to see in mini amps in this price range. First is a headphone or direct out for quiet home listening, recording or amp-less stage. The second is the ability to load IR cab emulations for the same reason. If this amp had those features I'd be in "take my money now" mode.
These would be relevant features for an amp like this on paper. But the ability to load cab IR emulations would jack up the price of the amp significantly. And it makes more sense to use a dedicated loadbox/IR loader instead of having one built-in since you wouldn't be limited to having only 1 amp with that functionality. You can use something like a Torpedo Captor on any amp you like. And you can get a headphone output directly off a product like the Captor as well. Killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
Boy oh boy Phil, that's a beautiful guitar.
You’re right Phil, it would be killer with a clean channel and even better with onboard reverb…
Nice work, Phil. Those were some killer tones to go along with those tasty licks.
Bogner FTW!
Joyo Bantamp line, (with new XL versions) seem to check every box ya mentioned for a fraction of the cost, with the left over money a nice EQ in the loop and a drive 🤷🏻♂️
I like the concept very much. I kind of already do the same thing with my Blackstar Core 10
Oh, so this is the product that he talked about on the Friday podcast! Cool amp.
This is the BEST sounding Solid State amp Ive heard in my life. Even though my HX Stomp HAS a Bogner patch- I still want one of these!
Me too
i just got a hughs and kittner gm 36 i had to get tubes for it but i like it . i use a eart headless guitar with modern fluence pickups in it
Super cute!
How you smile gives it away lol
Finally someone at least attempts to demonstrate a cleanish tone.
I’m wondering if the small amp market shift is due to the massive inflation we are all seeing
No, they were working on these for years
size in boss pedals is a very good measuring system
This is great. Next wish is Bogner / Freidman doing a 5W mini tube head
Haha I ran this thru a 2x12 1x15 Randall guitar cab- sick!! great tone- great practice in the office amp- I can run it all day. better than running my tube amp that heats up the room too much.
More coming, boy a morgan or a soldano mini would make me happy
At $350, you could get a Marshall DSL1R or Blackstar HT1. Orange Dark Mini for less and it has a single tube. Are you getting more for the real tube compared to these new mini amps? How do the compare volume wise to these affordable tube head ones?
I agree with you. I actually got a used DSL15H for $300 CAD.
@@EarthSouthside lol. Yes. It’s one way to look like an amp aficionado.
Vox lil’ Night train. Just sayin’...
@@rickkoehler3796 I owned a Night Train 15H and it gave up on me. Luckily while under store warranty. But both these mini amps seem to have plenty more gain than other lunchbox heads.
Yeah, I get that, but if they came out with a Soldano SLO mini, then that’s going to be a good couple of grand cheaper than the actual SLO 30, so would definitely be worth checking out to scratch that itch.
If you're into these mini amps, I've yet to find one that sounds better than Vox's MV series. Love all of these micro amps though- crazy you can get tones like that out of something you can hold in your hand.
at first when i saw it i was like yeah 30 watt gonna be just like anything else i heard but when Phillip hit those first few power chords i felt it in my chest holy shit this thing is really awesome sounding it sounds beastly bad ass actually i want one but how much lol
I run the fender mustang micro into my fx loop sometimes. It's not very practical, since my katana can do everything better, but I like that I can do it.
Wait their $4000 is tube and this is solid state... how do they sound the same? Confused 🤷♂️
Wow my guitarbro Phil... 2 days in and you have more views on a HIGH GAIN amp demo than Rabea Massad. (Quite a bit more)That's crazy(to me anyway) reaching new heights there guy. Lol all in fun. Great demo and thanks for what you do. I watch all your vids. Love em.
Genuinely interested in your opinion on how it compares to the Orange Micro Dark. I can't foresee it actually sounding as good as the Micro dark in the room. I have the Orange and for a sub $500 amp, I think there's not much that compares.
$330 seems a little steep for a four pound amp
If they made it too cheap it would cannibalize the sale of their pedals.
For how it sounds and how the bigger amps cost, some Bogner fans might like it as a portable practice amp.
How? I’ve paid that much for pedals before lol
You’re a good man.
It sounds really good and looks cool but to get that sound I would probably buy the Bogner Ecstasy Pedal since I have combo amps and no cabs.
IIRC the “official” demos for the original Ecstacy pedals said that the Pre EQ switch was all about matching to the pickups (sc vs hb) in your guitar. I have the Ecstacy Red and La Grange pedals - but I think I might need this too :)
not bad mini amp, sounds really good
Hey guys, listen to this crazy idea. Wouldn't it be cool that Fender releases a limited run of japanese squier reissues? I think it would be something refreshing and very cool
The distortion sounds mean, and the clean with break up sounds great. You didn't mod the squire did you?
I think that’s his plek’d Squier he featured a few months ago.
I like that amp. Great job on the video! Very informative....
Tempting with its size and high punch. Just don't know yet if it would suit a tight sound while having sustain for gain stuff. I liked what I heard from it so far though
Sounds killer
Nothing out there makes me want to get rid of my Spark..it does everything that I need …and more .😎🎸
Cool Variac switch !
Maybe Wampler should release something like this. A 2 channel amp with Black 65 and Triple Wreck channels with a switchable Clarksdale. Or a Thirty Something and a Gearbox (Pinnacle + Tumnus) combination.
I believe if you own a BOSS Katana MK2 in has a Power Amp in so you can probably use some of these pedals.......plus its a great little practice amp in a 50 watt adjustable watt to .25 watt and effects (no loop) 50 watt.......point being it has a power amp in.....not bad
would it play into my 4x12 cab at 16 ohm? oh sorry you ansewred my question at the end ty. i think it sounds killer.
yes
That's a pretty nice little amp
That sounds really nice
That is a very cool guitar! He built it as well? Sweet
it sucks that they do not have a clean channel and footswitch to switch between clean and dirty, actually thats the totall dealbreaker
Sounds way better than the friedman IMO
You could fit that whole amp into a flying v. That's awesome.
The amount of comments asking “did Bogner copy Egnater” or “it looks like an Egnater” is making me seriously cringe. Why would you think a $2000+ Amp line (that’s been around since at least the 70s) would copy a BUDGET brand Amp line?? I get Egnater is (maybe) more well known because of the size of most peoples pocket books, but in all honesty I’ve heard of Bogner for years and eventually ran across an Egnater and essentially have known since that THEY have copied Bogner.
Copy is a strong word, they were definitely inspired by Bogner. But to think a top-of-the-line brand of Amps would copy an “okay” budget brand is beyond me
4 cable method & Boom! Phil's your uncle.
that's now on my G-A-S list
okay, but when is the Diezel VH-4 one happening?
I still love plugging a rat into my Dark Terror running a 4x12. Just enough to piss my neighbor off ;)
Probably worth it. if you could use it with usb with an IR as well
I had the extasy red and thought about getting a lil pedal amp but i sold it instead i sold it. It was a nice distortion thingy but a bit too much
Diezel Paul has alwqys been my dream amp, but those fuckers are expensive. Looking forward to the mini.
I could have sworn I watched this video before and you mentioned something to the effect of "your drummer is going to have to hit lighter" because this is only 30 watts?
Phil, do you think they - meaning Bogner, Friedman, Soldano, Diezel - will release newer versions next year featuring a clean channel option ?
Well, let’s hope they will ever come with a nice Fender/Two-Rock-ish clean amp…
Friedman, Bogner, Diezel, etc… they all master the overdrive Marshall-ish tones, but not of lot can come with a very nice clean that could compete with Vintage Fender, Dumble, or even Two-Rock. I have a Two-Rock Studio Signature, and I love it, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a small head like those just to have fun at night
