    They sound quite similar; almost as if the BE is equivalent to turning up the mids on the Diezel (or vice versa). They do use the same platform so maybe not super shocking, but it’s a shame considering how different the tube heads are

    • @Dimiguitar

      Even the tube heads imo would be closer to what people think at times.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq 2 года назад

      @Varity Topic That's exactly right, and here's why. If you push a tube with gain until it distorts, the distortion is even order. This type of distortion typically sounds good. When you push a transistor to distort, it creates odd order distortion. This is not pleasing to the ear at all. Solid state has to emulate what tubes do naturally, and its a big challenge.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq 2 года назад

      @REVOLUTION TV They don't sound the same, and they don't feel the same to play. I took part in some blind testing over the last 6 months, or so. Everyone was able to tell which amps were real tubes 100%. I'm sure modeling amps will keep getting better, but for now, I'll stick with tubes.

    @3:45 I think what you're trying to say is as you boost the wattage, the amp looses headroom and becomes wonky in the low end due to the extra gain. Low wattage amps sound great with lower volume levels, I've had problems using a 45 watt solid state amp with a drummer. Next time in that scenario, I'm going to mic the cab and turn that up so I get the amp's best possible tone going in. Skal, Ola!! \m/

      they're both very interesting circuits, the Diezel uses less gain stages at higher gain, but technically uses a softer zener distortion, while on the other hand the Friedman uses more stages at less gain with regular diodes. there are also different frequency cuts along the way. it just really goes to show topology can really make a difference.

    This is a classic demo of why circuit design is the signature of any amp. These being transistor driven with similar circuits as the OG's the differences are small across the models as digital components are more consistent in their tolerances per part. The analogue parts in larger amps will have greater variance to the same parts let alone different parts unit to unit, which is what gives more character with the same signal in the larger amps and why transistors all sound samey as they're too consistent and have too few of the flaws that tubes have that make the character that musicians love. Great video Ola and keep chugging more videos like these out!

    The TS9 was my first overdrive and is still my favorite to this day! Dial back your amp's gain a lot and use a bit of drive from the TS9 with the level also dialed back some to control the noise. It's just got such a good sounding drive while a lot of other even more expensive overdrive's gain introduce so many artifacts(blips/ringing/static) I've noticed

      well, some might disagree, but it certainly would get you that tone if that's what you're into. i like me a good hm2 so don't get me wrong.

    Those little critters are FKN AWESOME Sounding up to a certain point... But i agree... 30watts of transistor is worth WAY less than 15 watts of tube. Honestky, anyone looking at these, should look at the Joyo Mjolnir, the Marshal DSL-1 or 5, etc... For just a little more they can get A LOT more amp.
    For that matter... the Joyo (among other brands) hybrid amps sound great for less money (1/2 of what these cost). I have the Orange Micro Terror and Dark Terror and paid about $150/ea. new. They both push 1/2 of a 4x12 stereo cab (carvin with eminence) and they sound GREAT.
    Just thinking out side of the box....

    Would have been interesting to throw in a DSL1 for comparison to a small sized tube amp. These are more expensive than the DSL1.

    The Diezel is more character in the tone than the Friedman may I suggest a lil Rat pedal to push those lil amps.. 😜🤘

    Prefer the Diezel in this video, nice comparison. Considering I am already using the Orange Pedal Baby 100 (powering HX stomp) as my pedal platform though, I would just grab the VH4 pedal.

    Deizel is a little flubby on the bottom end. Friedman sounds ok. It's just not the same as the amps they are mimicking. But,...if I was gonna buy one it would be the Friedman. I think they are like $349. Not a great price for 30watts solid state. I'd almost rather get a couple nice pedals or save for the lunchbox versions

    Modern amp is superb..even the small size,is good...technology have come so far in amps industry...nowadays,you dont need to buy bigger amp,more expensive amp to get nive sounding amp..

      @Varity Topic with the right amp, anything is possible; it's all about what kind of preamp transistor you're using. i'd recommend an amp with a jfet preamp if you want the same feel with drive pedals. just remember that solid state clean channels (for example, orange) are meant to be as clean as possible, so they dont take drive pedals very well.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq 2 года назад

      @@nebulyte3651 No its not. Varity Topic is right. There's things that tubes do that solid state can't. The way a tube distorts when pushed with gain sounds completely different from the way a transistor sounds.

    • @charleswisconsin9196
      @charleswisconsin9196 2 года назад

      @@AT-wl9yq depends on the topology. opamps can never distort like a tube, yes. the bias and input sensitivity is too perfect. Jfets operate exactly like a tube. you just have to get the biases and clipping characteristics right. if power Jfets existed running at 300 or so volts they would be functionally identical to tubes. problem is Jfets run at 9v most of the time.
