Wow love your videos. I bought a 149 F and right out of the box perfect and love it. Loved it so much just ordered a 146 calligraphy. My Visconti homo sapien lava blizzard bad out of the box. Sent it back. Had the replacement for a year and just wrote the seller since it warrantied for 2 years want to send it back again since it's under warranty. Why send an $800 dollar Visconti to a nibmeister and void my warranty. I do love the volcanic material and weight but the Nib is awful so glad to hear you say that it's common.
Overall, I like your review - it covers all the pros & cons, however, (your) acceptance of how MB now produce their latest modern contemporaries - "It's just the way it is...", I do not hold with such a perspective. I purchased my 149's (& 146's) pre-owned; it is not a consideration to buy brand new issues of either of these models, primarily because of the lesser material components, i.e, plastic piston mechanisms - for high-end scribes, it is decidedly unacceptable in my opinion. I am not attempting to cite a 'revolution' against MB per se, but rather have (them) re-evaluate the intrinsic valuation of their product. My particular pens were made just after the fall of the Berlin Wall, & they are excellent. Admittedly, I own a number of Meisterstuck's, & in the last one & a half decades, have noticed a consistent lowering of standards by this company. In terms of the price point, I would concur that the cost far outweighs what might be expected in a premium writing instrument - & that is a great shame (not that they shall take any notice of my remonstrations). For overall quality build, I prefer to spend my moneys with Pelikan, but that's a personal choice. Thank you for your presentation - stay well & keep safe, Best, Andrew 🙂
I have never needed a special tool to unscrew the nib of my 149 for cleaning. It has those 2 slots but comes out with little effort when I clean the pen.
Very nice review and beautiful photography. Of all the fountain pens I don't own, these are my favorites.
