For the Vancouverites: VanCam Repair saved my life! Dropped my 850 and lens into a river one day, beyond all hope they managed to save my baby. Glad you got this fixed Mike!

That’s good to know, I didn’t know you’d been through this too!!
Seriously, it was in the water less than a minute and it was fresh water and sigma wouldn’t even try. They gave me no options, that’s what pisses me off. Glad to still have my Nikon setup working!

@@heymikeriley that's horrible to hear, the very last thing you want in that situation is to be turned down by the company that SHOULD 100% UNFAILINGLY have your back!
Mine was under for 10 seconds tops but the lens snapped off the body, taking part of the mount with it. Honestly shocked it still works like brand new.

      @@bretts_bestiary oh man, that’s wild.
Yea, I literally stepped the wrong way, my knee was toast and I fell. As I fell, I shotputted the z9 and 500 f4.. so we’re talking 10 lbs of gear, it hit a log and had no physical damage other than the lcd bracket on the body behind slightly bend and the eye cup ripped off. Ordered a new eye cup and it’s fine. But it rolled into the water and that’s where the issue came from.

Sorry all that happened Mike. Can’t imagine what that felt like. Seems like companies and insurance companies are fine these days with throwing out things that could be repaired easily. They don’t wanna put in the work. It’s a sad world we live in. I just lost my 2020 Chrysler 300 in a flood. Killed the motor. Insurance co just totaled it without even looking at it. Dealer said they could fix it for less than half the cost but the insurance co said no. Broke my heart and my spirit. Just done with all these companies that don’t care anymore.

Ah damn man I’m sorry to hear that and I completely agree with you. Things are so focused on efficiency that companies are rigid on their policy. It’s wasteful.

I will be moving forward lol. Feeling very lucky that a moderate repair bill has saved this kit on the meantime.

this is interesting adarama sold me a 500mm sigma 4.5 lens contact blocks needed replacing at the time I was using a 1dIII and got a error code come up adaroma offered to refund me and then get sigma usa to fix it. I asked them hay would you be willing to get sigma uk to repair it. They said sure give us the bill and we will pay it. So I sent it to sigma uk they were really good repalced contact blocks gave lens a full clean bill was £250. So what they did with you is totally crap. My lens cost me £1000 plus £300 import. Postage was around £150 . If it was me I would be shocked and disgusted. Second point here your lens and camera are weather sealed their is no reason you should have water damage. If it was salt water they I get it salt is terrible on electronics but fresh water should be not a big deal. your lens is weather sealed for got sake thats why you pay the big bucks for them. This goes back to one of the videos I made dont rely on warrentys get insurance.

Interesting points for sure, glad your lens was fixable. But yea I agree, fresh water, limited exposure, shouldn’t have been that big of a deal.
The camera did have water pouring out of the battery compartment which I thought was odd.
I’m not sure if the lens adapter or teleconverter are technically weather sealed? Maybe that’s how water came in the front. I’d say it’s a failure on the z9 that water got in the battery compartment so easily though. I bought both of these used without warranty, but the fact that I wasn’t even offered an option to pay to repair it is nuts. Especially when someone else did it so quickly, easily and affordably. This definitely should reflect quite poorly on Sigma Canada and their repair process.
