    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    William (Heath Ledger) faces Adhemar (Rufus Sewell) in the last round of the jousting tournament.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Heath Ledger stars as William Thatcher, a low-born 14th century squire who, in a fit of inspired spontaneity, replaces his deceased employer as the competitor at a jousting competition. Jousting is a pastime only permitted to knights, who are of noble birth, but Thatcher wins and decides to continue his new pursuits. With the help of his two fellow squire friends Wat and Roland (Alan Tudyk and Mark Addy) and none other than the gambling-addicted Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany), Thatcher has soon adopted a false identity and is winning one joust after another on his way to a championship in London. His victories inspire the affection of a female fan, Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), and the ire of a competitor, Count Adehmar (Rufus Sewell), but Thatcher's ruse is threatened with exposure.

      I still cry for Heath Ledger. There are some “stars” who possess neither talent nor charisma and live seemingly forever (pretending to be young, with more facelifts than Joan Rivers and ever-younger co-stars) but Ledger was the real deal…

      I think it had to do more with the fact that anytime they put somebody pretty in a role playing an evil character people question their ability to do so. However he knew the secret was to totally abandon his own personality and give into playing the character. If there's anything I have to say about it is that it did remind me a little bit of Brandon Lee in The Crow, but that's not a bad thing.

    He spends the entire movie pretending to be someone else, thinking that he could never achieve his dreams as himself---but in the very last moment before victory, his battle cry is his own name. Poetic cinema.

    • @ianwebb6686
      @ianwebb6686 Год назад +21

      Not only that, but he is thoroughly stripped of his disguise throughout the final act. Adhemar outs him as a pretender, stripping his pseudonym and rankings as Sir Ulrich, then thrown in the stocks to strip away his pride. Then in the match, Adhemar blow by blow strips him of his shiny harness of which none would argue makes him appear noble, piece by piece, and his health, very nearly rendering him unable to ride.
      All that is left of the man on the horse is William, bared before the world, very much the young boy who swore to become a knight, about to Hail Mary his way into the stars.
      Poetic doesn't come close.

      He was lucky in that he got a to marry a woman he loved.
      He died not long after this era. Was never king. Greatly loved in his own country, hated and feared in France.

    My theory has always been that the armor itself weights quite a bit, not to mention the lance, so knights basically just hold it supported by their armpit and aim it, then at the last moment the knights try to move the lance forward to add more momentum but since they're wearing armor it doesn't add that much. William without the armor just full on launches the lance so far ahead that Ahdemar doesn't even connect his hit.

    This movie shows true love and inspiration and the willingness to fight for your dreams no matter what the cost. As long as it is true and pure in the path you take..love triumps over true evil..sad this world does believe in that anymore. This world is full of hate and greed. Love has been gone for such a very long time. A true Knight's tale!!!

    This movie has silly moments, but Heath made this movie transform from a spoof to a classic. It was meant to be fun but became much more.

    @2:21 William's gang is arranged in a hexagon looking at Count Adhemar... Same arrangement as the band members on the Album cover "Rare Earth's Greatest Hits" Featuring the hit song "Get Ready" used in the "Losing for Jocelyn" scene in this movie.
