Das war wieder mal eine wunderbare Fahrt in den Schnee hinein, vielen Dank! Man merkt, dass die Videos mit viel Liebe zum Detail zusammengestellt werden. Also hard to remember that the road was not there. It was a trail or wagon track. One very fun thing for me with this old cab is seeing the quite clear negative reflected back onto the windscreen of what I am not seeing in the white glare as we exit tunnels. No ones camera seems to be really fast at adjusting from the dark of the tunnel to normal sunlight. Yet somehow what ever is reflecting that negative image cuts the intensity enough so the negative image has no glare. I will miss this as the old engines disappear.
I don't understand the people that give this a thumbs down are they watching something else cos I think this is an amazing video and such a beautiful place you are one lucky guy Paolo
Wonderful tour of the engine at the end. Seeing the switching necessary to get to the cars, and changing ends for return trip. A real engineers view. Everything but how the engineer got to work and home again. Did he or she have to take another train, walk or bike? Not all the way home of course but that would almost complete an "Average Day in A Swiss Rail Engineer's Life." Thank you so much for the experience.
The engineer (me) began at 4am the shift in Samedan. Drove a train to Landquart made a rest and then made the train that I filmed. Finally I finished the shift in Samedan and went home.
Thanks Lorirocks for another splendid video. And Paolo, special thanks for including the extra details at the beginning and end - it’s fascinating to see railroad choreography. I particularly enjoyed seeing the complex radial catenary structure over the turntable; that’s a first for me! Keep up the good work, and stay healthy!
Very interesting coming off shed and going to collect the coaches. That arrangement of the overhead wires radiating from the turntable outside the depot there is fascinating.
0:2:49 The turntable's configuration in conjunction with the yard trackage permitting whole trainset access to/egress from the maintenance shed is very imaginative. Have never seen such an arrangement as this before. Neat. 0:3:14 " We no (sic) need to get our 5 Wagons from the M track group." I like your thinking, Paolo, I'm with you, buddy! To heck with picking up those cars and then having to deal with pesky passengers. I say we just take this bad boy out on the mainline and open it up full-throttle, see what this baby can do! Lol! Thanks for another enjoyable trip, Paolo and lorirocks; looking forward to your next posting.
All your videos are thrilling and exciting. This one is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip on the "old road". It was very interesting. Thank you for all your work.
As a locomotive maintainer in Australia during the 1980s and the 1990s...I recall hearing the same distinct ticking from speedometers in EMD and , I think, English Electric Locomotives.
@@lorirocks777 The ones that I recall may not not have been Hasler...but I'm guessing that their manner of operation may have been the same. You have a good youtube channel as well. My father is from northern Italy...Sondrio. I enjoy the ride that you present from Tirano to St Moritz. My father spent some time constructing railways in Switzerland back in the 1950s. He told me that the sleepers they used were made of steel. "Sleeper" is the Australian term for the items that hold the rails together. The Americans call them "ties". I notice that you have timber sleepers at many of the platforms or "stations" and concrete or steel in other places. In my state, Queensland, in Australia, We use concrete sleepers everywhere. Easy question...are your high speed rail trains functioning on standard gauge tracks?
Thank you Paolo, this was an amazing video and to have the oldest electric locomotive left in the RbH fleet in the lead was an additional bonus for us, don't know about you driving it vs an Alerigo.
They still have two of the famous brown Ge 6/6 Crocodile's hauling heritage trains in the summer. Those were buildt in the 1920s. There's even a steam loco (or is it two...?) that they've retained in working nick for similar purposes...
1:15:00 The scenery of this place and position is always wonderful! I remember seeing a video on the same route in a different video than this one before.
Great video and good to see the modernisation work going on. I am always impressed by how neat the lineside is kept but I've never seen any maintenance gangs lopping trees or cutting the grass.
Nice! Thanks, makes me homesick!. The turntable at the start reminds me of the one of the cable car in San Francisco. There they use manpower to turn!.
I think to have a Swiss housekeeper would be the greatest thing. The whole country has a neat and tidy aspect about it with a knack of precise compartment. Even the trees seem to follow the rules. If there's a disheveled or unkempt area in Switzerland, I want to see it to believe it. That long tunnel is an engineering marvel. How did they do it? Totally blown away by this train ride.
Heftig, wie viel sich seit meinem letzen Besuch, vor 2 Jahren in Landquart verändert hat und auch wie das Rollmaterial und die Linienzuteilung anders sind.
thanks for including the shunting at the start and the engine tour at the end. A question for Paolo, is it difficult to change between driving a modern and old lokomotiv. Do you have a favourite?
No it's not so difficult but you just have to switch in your head the "driving mode". Hard to pick a favourite: for the power a Ge 4/4 III, nostalgic a Ge 6/6 II and modern an ABe 8/12

Lovely cab ride as always! Enjoyed the shunting procedures both at Landquart at St. Moritz. The initial quick run from Landquart to Schiers at mostly 80 kph and then the curves and climbing up made a really nice video especially with the snow in the later half. The new Bever station also looks very nice! Just one doubt - at the beginning it is mentioned that the regular train for the run was supposed to be the Allegra ABe 8/12. However I have observed in real life and in videos that the RegioExpress between Landquart and St. Moritz consists of the old coaches with mostly a Ge 4/4 II. Even in this video itself, the 2 REs that you cross in the opposite direction (St. Moritz to Landquart) are with a Ge 4/4 II and not the Allegra. So was it really supposed to be the Allegra for the run? Anyway, thanks for posting this wonderful ride!

@@dellacapaolo Oh okay. Personally I am not a fan of the newer trains. I honestly don't like the look of the Capricorns much. The Allegras are okay though. Even on the main Albula line, in 2019, I got one of those Alvra trainsets for one of my journeys and it was quite difficult to take photos through the glass. The openable windows are only few and at one end of the train. I prefer the conventional locomotive hauled trains with the old coaches. They look the best and all the windows can open. I understand that modernisation is for the benefit of all, but still - just stating my honest opinion.

Geiles Video! 👍👌🚊🚦📹🧡🙂 Great video! Especially the switching rides... And the wonderfull nature all around, Switzerland is really beautiful... Is there the voltage everywhere 1000 volt DC, please? Or is there somewhere also some else, for example AC 15 kV and 16.7 Hz? 👍👌🚊🚦📹🧡🙂
Seems to me like between 1910 and 1915 every able bodied person in Switzerland was either digging tunnels or building viaducts....remarkable country.

Great video! Especially the switching rides... And the wonderfull nature all around, Switzerland is really beautiful... Is there the voltage everywhere 1000 volt DC, please? Or is there somewhere also some else, for example AC 15 kV and 16.7 Hz? 👍👌🚊🚦📹🧡🙂
