The states attorney released them stating "mutual combat" as part of her reasoning for letting them walk. Any one of us would have gotten ten years just for the nfa violation. I have to disagree with you in some respect (also from California). They impose these dumb laws to stay in office. It's not about control like they just like making laws because they are mean or something, but instead the constituents say "hey! Those black rifles look scary and stuff!" and the politicians say "okay so it's now illegal to make them look scary". It's more about appeasing people who don't understand firearms than it is about exerting power. But guys, ima put myself on a watch list here, I do not have "illegal" weapons ;) and if one falls out of the sky when shtf, it'll be an incredible coincidence. We all should put ourselves in a position where a gun can fall out of the sky and into our hands if shtf. :) they can make all things illegal, but they can't stop some of these things from falling out of the sky when times comes to.

The issue a lot of you don’t want to accept is that “everyone thinks they’re the good guys”. You can’t be “good” if you’re not educated enough to tell good and evil apart and for that specific reason is why the people you call “liberals” want bans imposed. If you understood the concept of liberalism you’d know it better fits America’s beliefs than conservatism. Every action that has shifted the history of the US has been based on liberalist principles. Ending slavery, funding the space race, upping security after the famous September day of 2001, etc. Liberalism as the name implies, calls for LIBERTY but with LIBERTY comes RESPONSIBILITY. Why do I need a special license to operate a forklift but absolutely no training or knowledge to buy a tool whose sole purpose is to kill? That lack of logic turns both sides against each other. Your version of “good” is objectively wrong if you for example use the Bible as a moral compass because then, by pure logic, I can compare you to the Taliban. Embrace science, education and civility just like Switzerland and see how quickly the whole perception shifts.

It takes more than just the sear. You have to have the auto bolt that hasn't been neatured to hit the latch as it closes , that releases the sear. The full auto hammer also has a diffently designd back with a latch in it... the third pin visible over selector switch gives it away if it's converted. Not just a drop in part available. Requires work and gunsmithing.

Just a month or two ago (February?) several Houston police officers were wounded while serving a warrant by a man with a "modified automatic weapon"...probably a drop in sear.
