REAL DEAL TESTING OF THE NOMAD 5.3 GALLON TANK

- The Nomad 20L fuel tank is huge and the wings are deep and there’s no straw to get at what’s down in the lowest part of the side scoops.
Can you get it all out in real riding?
Depends.
Do we think this is a good tank and one we’d recommend for dual sporting and light ADV use on the L, RL, and X models?
Absolutely.
The testing continues with Ashley from Mosko Moto’s 450L. Stay tuned for more updates and tests.

Also, they now make a 4 gallon/15 litre tank. Same style as the 5 gallon. Both the 4 & 5 gallon tanks come with rad guards.
Why not just use a pule pump to lift fuel out of the wings like the Wr250r aftermarket tanks?
The 15L TANK is specifically for the 450L and 450RL. I have one and I get about 300km to a tank full.
YOU, taco mike... are the man! ❤️
Thank you Taco Mike for sharing your findings. Much appreciated!
Just pop the front end up ala a pivot turn and let it drain to the feed well.
I hope running the pump dry a few times will not harm it.
...it's a HONDA! No damage.
Cool video. Crazy how the fuel migrates up into the hopper! Would not have guessed that. My old XR650R with the Clarke tank would take 4 tip-over-to-the-bars, dirt or street, and you were done.
How long did it take for you to get the tank
Are those metal frames for the soft bags from Mosko?
What brand of side rack/support are on Ashley’s bike? Those look ideal for Mosko bags.
Off topic. Looks like you had the suspension done by konflict. How do you like it ?
I wonder if a feed tube from the center well with a T going down both wings would allow the pump to pull all the fuel without the necessity of sloshing or tipping the bike on it's side. I can't see how the pump draws it load but would love to play with one if I had a 450 L.
I was thinking the same thing. You'd just have to figure out filter(s); either one in each 'wing' or a single one inline.
No Wheelies?
I haven't read though all the comments at all, but my 990 Adventure pulls from a t-line that connects both tanks from the bottom. Can't we do the same thing for all of these "oversized" but portionally useless oversized tanks?
I think you're asking too much. After all, it only costs $700. Oh wait...
Useful video! I would be concerned about all that extra weight in the front. My 06 525 XC has the same tank design but it’s much smaller. You can feel the front end dive down under heavy braking.
Gasoline weighs about 6 lbs. per gallon. At 3.3 gallons more than stock, that's just 20 lbs. Which is negligible, considering differences in the weight of various riders for whom the suspension is designed. If you are concerned about dive, you can put heavier springs in the forks, and/or use pneumatic forks.
@@kentalanlee Suspension could definitely be a big factor. Never have I properly setup or tuned the front/rear shocks my 15 year bike. Might be about time!
IYO, would longer legs, as in 36” inseam, would your legs be bowed out while sitting on the seat? That is a concern of mine. Thanks
No, it's just like the stock tank with shrouds.
Cool to see y'all branching out to other brands. The newer Ducati HyperMotard has a similar issue. #moarwheelies
John T Young did a good video on this too (the 450L guys will know who that is) as a secondary reference point. Getting up on a steep hill gets things down to a 1-2 liters left, which is the maximum he could get from the tank.
And also he states rolling on the throttle to bring the fuel up to the pump
So you added 1 gallon after you ran out on highway? Then made it 7 or so miles Offroad till it ran out again? Just making sure.
I added 1 gal or so from the gas bag to get home.
The 7 or so miles was what I got from out of gas on the street to out on the dirt
@@TACOMOTOCO oh wow! I’m
An L owner and love this build. Any content is valuable
So, did you determine the mileage you can travel, and how maybe much fuel is left over?
Mileage is all about the right wrist. These bikes can get anywhere from 28-55
Check out Nomad Tanks website for more tips. Nomad says to do an abrupt off/on throttle blip. He figured that you'd get half a litre pushed up into the fuel pump area doing this. Off road or on gravel, I'd think that it'd be easy to pull up a steep incline to move the fuel or do the on\off blip.
Would you want to heat wrap your exhaust pipe..especially being close to the right side of the tank.
What kind of motor mount is that?
That’s fine for dirt riding but I wouldn’t fancy the stalling on a main road with maybe 3-4 litres remaining. It wouldn’t be safe to have to swerve between your lane and the shoulder to keep the bike going. They could have made it a 16 l tank and nearly all would be usable.
The mfg claims that if you accelerate hard it will push fuel back from the wings into the pump ‘bowl’. We didn’t test this as we found out about it after our run but will try it and describe results in future videos
Its beautiful 😊 you can barely tell it's not stock. Nothing like close to 50 pounds of gasoline between your thighs.
Fits 2019 crf450r?
You could fit three of you sticker packs on that thing.
Plenty of room for that right!
Love mine!
Needs a bigger Tank
Right🤪🤪
Obviously this is a design flaw. Is there a permenant fix? Are you guys at Taco working on something to remedy?
Maybe when getting low its time for some wheelies. Explain to the police officer you preventing your bike from running out of gas. Lol
Also wheelies for science 🤘🏽🛴💪🏽
If you’re stranded because you’re out of gas and there’s any gas still left in your tank, that’s called a design flaw.
Throw back a sick nooner and all that fuel will be to the rear
Right! True story
what a waste of space.. put a hose inside the lowest level to the pump. or its not efficiently made.
That thing is hideous! Id rather run out of gas LOL
That tank is hideous!
You can't see it when you're riding. Plus, it'll look great when you need to go 300+ km's!
