I wished you had washed the engine bay before the install. It makes the process nicer and also prevents crap from falling into the engine/intake etc while disassembling
I've gone back and forth on the supercharger for mine. Part of me really wants it. The other part thinks I bought it because its reliable as the rotation of the earth and that messing with that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The 4runner is a truck I can jump into right now and feel confident that I could drive to almost anywhere in the world, and that it would bring me back. I can imagine being in south america somewhere and doing the pan-american highway, only for the supercharger to develop a fault. That whine is intoxicating though
That JB Weld had me doing a double-take. Love the diversity in content here. 4Runners are huge in popularity but not tons of RUclips content out there for them.
@@orlando_mia4583 yup this is true. i cant remember what brand the kit was, but the procharger kit for a 370z actually gives you like 15% better fuel economy (or something silly like that)
Kentuckian here, we get *some* rust, but a New Yorker car buddy I was talking to about cars said he has to replace his car every few YEARS due to rust?!?
Love this build. You should look into the metal oil filter housing though before the stock plastic one breaks. Toyota makes a metal one you can swap on.
This was the first video I saw when I was considering a Magnuson. I got my new 2023 4Runner ORP and when it had 400 miles on the odometer I installed my own Maggie. I've since put an additional 6,500 miles on my supercharged 4Runner so far and couldn't be happier!
Getting the power you want usually necessitates an engine swap or messing around with a whole slew of power adders and supporting mods, expensive dyno tuning, troubleshooting etc... What a PAIN. That supercharger kit is testament to top notch engineering from Magnuson and the overengineered, unstressed nature of the 4.0 v6. It's a shame this wasn't (commonly) an option from the factory!
Can you guys do a reliability update on the supercharger in about a year or so? I have been going back and forth on this mod for a while but I’m happy you guys installed it. Thanks!
@@CruzControl223 Might be the combo of tires and supercharger. Seems like a big hit for a 271 miles (per google maps) and 23 gal tank. Thanks for the info!
Sweet 4runner! My only experience with one was driving one home after a rave at 6am because owner/friend was too hammered on E and/or acid (20years ago iirc). It was a stick shift, it drove nicely.
Supercharged Yota's are awesome! Really neat build so far. Best taste in mods per usual. Used to work at Toyota, the 5.7L in the Tundra with a blower is nuts how much it transforms the performance 🤓 Would always use that particular truck for a loaner... 🙃
You really shouldn't put any on. Most modern spark plugs have an antisieze coating on the threads. Adding any lubricant makes stripping the threads much too easy during install. NGK claims that most damaged spark plugs are a result of using antisieze and the subsequent over-tightening. That said, I'd trust any seasoned mechanic to know what works for them and their own built-in torque sensor. Amateurs should probably save the copper antisieze for exhaust bolts and studs as recommended by the service manual.
Great install video gents! Only thing I can advise is to get some constant torque clamps for the new coolant reservoir. Seems to be the main component that gives people issues aside from properly adjusting the vacuum actuator. Would also be a good idea to get it tuned at your local tuner for a more refined setup. Also, if you plan on keeping the rig I highly recommend getting the aluminum oil filter housing. Just make sure to swap the center column from the original! Keep the 4Runner videos coming!
The only mod I have done to my 2018 4runner is install a size 27F battery. All you have to do is buy the bigger battery tray from a dealer for a 2008 4runner with a v8 engine. The Magnusom supercharger is next on my list!!
🤣🤣 JB weld on your plugs. I don't even put anti seize on plugs. It can throw out your torque values. Another great video guys and looking forward to the exterior transformation 👍🏻
@DP I had the factory TRD Supercharger (also Magnuson) on my 2010 5.7L Tundra... a 600hp truck is bonkers, you won't be disappointed! However, fuel mileage was 12mpg empty and around 8mpg with a 6,000lb trailer... but then again you don't put a supercharger on a Tundra hoping it'll get good mileage... lol
As a precaution I recommend fluid filming or putting a lube protectant on the PRNDL switch on the passenger side of the trans. The salt corrodes them and then they shift hard into gear and throw check engine lights.
Dont know how much it helps but i always relocate my toyota horns. They block so much of the cooling area. We need all the cooling we can get here in southern az! Im loving the build so far. Thanks guys.

Love this, I've not seen someone supercharge one of these before but I'm here for it! DP, you can't let PT have all the supercharged Toyota truck fun ;) interesting it calls for anti seize, I know NGK says to not use it because of their trivalent coating that prevents seizing.
Awesome video! It doesn’t really matter too much for this low pressure application, but the push-on style hose and fittings are made to be used together without a clamp. When you clamp it, it actually cuts the working pressure in half as per manufacturers hydrostatic testing! Definitely use a clamp on the knurled tube ends though :) love these build series, keep it up!
I'm not sure if you guys have seen it yet or if they've branched out too the 4runners yet. But hp tuners has begun supporting 4.0 1gr's in tacomas. Supposedly toyota runs them super rich to keep the cats from melting. Also alot of the lack luster performance feel is down to how the factory ecm interprets the e-pedal signals. All that can be changed with the original ecu and hp tuners. Might be worth a look
