I worked in Airstream’s Touring Coach Engineering department, working the EE on the 2022 24X. I was there when they made the switch from Lifeline AGM batteries to Battle Born Lithium batteries. With the added, upfront cost of going to Lithium, it made it seem like taboo to want to add more batteries to any of our units. And in general, a lot of what Engineering at Airstream should have control over, they don’t. It’s all Sales, design-to-cost, and ego driven. And both the Touring Coach and Travel Trailer quality managers quit in less than a year. That should say something.
Maybe you can answer my question; what is the weight limit of the L-track systems? I know the actual L-track has a very high weight limit (more than I would need), but what about the mounting screws/frame it's attached to on the vehicle frame?
I owned a 2006 Airstream Landyacht motorhome and loved it. It is the reason why we are now again looking at Airstream, but we have been disappointed in our research. Too many quality issue consistent with the above statement. Sad. Really sad. Thanks so much for this honest review.

Very helpful and thanks to you and all others who made additional valuable comments. Saved me from potential issues and frustrations. Decided avoid this van after this video
I love your VERY HONEST and evaluation based on your experiences of this RV. I just stopped by Temple City Airstream dealership to see how they look like inside and out. It's a shame to hear the incompetence of Airstream in building such RV's. Sad!
I am so lucky to find your youtube today. Due to tons of quality problem and terrible service, I sold my new purchased Winnebago Revel, and want to buy interstate GT 24'' 4x4. After watching your video, I lost my last hope. Inclusion, compared with German RV, all Rvs made in the USA are trash... I did a lot of market research and study the process of clearing US customs, America is the most difficult country to import diesel engine RV from overseas, much more difficult than third world countries...... Thanks for your presentation brother! I've been laughing my ass off at everything you said, was so close to pull the trigger on a airstream Interstate 24, I just don't have the time nor the patience to deal with so many little stupidity's that should've been acknowledged by the manufacturer. I bought Instead a Entegra Coach Esteem 31F had I not seen your video, it would've been a disaster for me! Cheers and good luck! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I ultimately sold it back to Airstream in Fredericksburg Va. I should have done video 2. There were so many more problems. Plumbing issues all over, battery issues, black tank issues, total mess.... What ever team put this thing together should be fired.
Would you be able to provide an update? I have a 24X on order. In Canada it will not be available until January 2023 at the earliest. One thing you did not expand on was the battery power… my current Interstate (2016) sucks the house batteries dry within 12 hours - kills the chassis battery as well. Needed to add a 2nd chassis battery, with a switch to manually push, to boost the engine. I can’t believe this “off-road” setup on the 24X would continue to have power issues!!! Like you said, “at this price point… c’mon!!!”
@@DogtrainerRidgesideK9 We have rethought our interest in the Interstate 19, and decided to proceed, but used your issues to inquire about certain items. Interesting how there has been a redesign of pretty much everything you brought up! We do not want anything prior to 2023 based upon your concerns. Also, I think the pandemic driven demand impacted quality and not in a good way.
Im aware of that. BUT you cant do that at load and this van is a 3500. So at load, absolutely not. Further more, the point was - how do you put air in the tires.
Thanks for the update! I have the same van and been very disappointed with the same issues that you have mentioned..absolutely insane for the price they asking!! Do you have any issues with the sliding door back window screen install?..impossible to get to it.
Can you help me prepare for negotiating? How much below MSRP is a fair price for a 24x? I have heard a general rule of thumb for RVs is to expect to pay up to 30% below MSRP. I’m guessing not that much discount for an Airstream
Can you tell me who the 75 % windshield Tint And your other window tinting that you put on your sprinter .. Mfg, where to buy it ,model Etc Thank you 😊
The entire RV industry is putting out products that are substandard. I paid over $400,000 for a Newmar that had a laundry list of items that were wrong and had to be corrected. I spent the better part of the first year chasing down warranty issues. I live in Florida and I had to travel up to Indiana to get some of them fixed. I had a power steering line blow out on me when I was in California on the first big trip. Don’t even get me started on the water leaks and the electrical issues that they created. So yeah, I know where you’re coming from. When you pay this kind of money for a vehicle, you expect it to be right.
Thank you for your HONEST review! I have a 2018 24 EXT and I love the Mercedes’ side: Very smooth, comfortable ride with great safety features. I enjoy camping in it too and the Airstream interior is comfortable and beautiful. BUT as you noted, there are too many issues for the price point. I’ve considered selling it but have to say that issues are an issue with the entire RV industry. Until consumers stop living with work arounds and replacing parts that shouldn’t have been built in then the first place, RV manufacturers will continue to put out lesser products & RV dealers will keep scrimping on mechanic training & retention.
A van that costs as much as a small house shouldn't have these issues. I've also been considering buying one, but no one at Airstream can answer my simple question; I want to know the weight limits of the L-Track system...and no one seems to know. I want to secure a motorcycle in the rear of the vehicle, between the side seats. I already know I can get it into the van, but I simply need to know if the L-track can handle the tension of securing straps for the bike.
@@DogtrainerRidgesideK9 Good info, but still...I'd like a number from the factory engineers. For instance, could I take down the overhead baskets and hang a hammock? I think there is enough room diagonally to do so, but I don't know if the L-track can take that weight...well, I know the actual L-track can handle it, but I need to know if the mounting screws and what the track is connected to behind the wall can handle the weight.
