This is the exact model we want. I personally drive a Chrysler Town and Country good size minivan so the fact I can drive this if my husband can’t sold us. Another thing I have noticed with bigger Rv’s is height restriction in tunnels. We live in Florida and are buying a lot in the south Keys. I think your made the right choice.

If you get a Ninja Speedi it will solve the toaster it steams so rice and pasta cook well, it roasts and slow cooker, plus a speedi meal which steams in the bottom and airfryer at the top, you have a middle plate that can divide the speedi into 2. You would not need a toaster as it has a grill as well, I haven’t used my oven or hob at home since I had it. Also I love it so much I take it with us to our Caravan and it sits on top of the cooker, which is now redundant, it covers everything.

I just sold my third interstate. Each on I’ve managed to own just over a year. The concept and luxury is great, the reality is very different. Storage is at a premium without the off grid system. I wish you well, but if you last a year I will be amazed. Holiday in ours was always a challenge, living in it would be impossible. We traded our 2022 for a Dynamax dx3 ( just over $300K). Good luck!!!

We looked at the Airstream vans at an Adventure Van Expo in May last year ( and a lot of others ) and for less money had a custom van builder build us exactly what we want - geared to off grid boondocking. It just takes longer to get.

I’d get some kind of custom mattress topper that a)you can keep the sheet on) and b) rolls up easy with sheet in place on it . That way when you lower the bench you can just plop and on and you’re done.

We have a 2016 GL. There's just the 2 of us, but we love how it drives! We love having the bathroom and kitchen right there. We put in 2 lithium batteries and 3 solar panels. We only plug in during the cold months. The macerator is great. We don't have to hook up a stinky slinky! We've driven from Idaho to Florida in the winter with no problems. No hooking up! Get ourselves ready in the morning, and we are on our way. I don't think we would want a larger rv or something that we would have to tow. We love our Airstream Interstate! For traveling I don't think there is a better way. Hope you enjoy yours

I also can't figure out the decision to try to live full time in this. I hope you still have the classic to go back to. Seems like this would be great for short getaways... but full time. Oh boy. Now nobody gets to stay at the campground while the other goes grocery shopping. That right there would stop me from getting it! Good luck, I guess we'll all see how long it lasts.

You know I love you guys, but I must say that this decision both baffles and troubles me. That's a lot of money to put into something so small that I believe will very quickly prove to be impractical with a toddler, and that began to depreciate in value from the moment you drove it off the lot. And, unlike with your prior set-up, if this van needs repairs (for any reason), you lose both your home and your mode of transport. You'd at least have one of the two at any given moment with the other set-up. Sorry...

Very nice van guys. Wife and I are retired and empty nesters. We own a 28' Classic Airstream as well and purchased it used. I have never been able to bring myself to purchase a new one because the loss you take the minute you drive it off the lot i.e. 10%. The van appears to be very similar to the size of a Bambi AS, but four times the cost. Different strokes for different folks - right? I am curious as to what you plan to do when (not if) the van breaks down? At that point you've lost your TV and the place where you live? I'm sure you have already thought of this; especially if you plan on boon docking like you said in the video instead of staying at expensive RV sites and am genuinely curious. Stay safe and happy trails!!

How do you feel about either paying a bunch more money in interest over ( 20 years or until you sell ) or paying capital gains tax 15% or income tax 22% to get this $300000 unit? Here it is 2024, How do you like it now? We just bought the same Interstate unit slightly used for about $130000, it is a beautiful four wheel drive unit.

So happy for you guys!! I've been looking at the same model and options that you have. Did Airstream advise on the cargo carrying capacity of your config? Considering additional weight for 4x4 and hydraulic jacks and after people and fuel weight, I wonder how much is left for stuff??

    • @Wanderlocal
      @Wanderlocal  Год назад

Great question. Since it’s sitting on a 3500 chassis we’d never even considered it. So far, payload hasn’t been an issue. We’ll have to find the specs. Another advantage of the 4x4 was the extra 3” of clearance. Coming from a towable, this was important to us. It’s not much more, but we were riding low for years. 😆

You will learn very fast that when you're camping you'll detest tearing down and packing up every single time you need or want to drive somewhere. And then you'll hate making and unmaking the bed everyday. And why pay the extra for some gimmicky Bahama name for accessories that you'll never use anyway?

You know I'm only here for the entertaining mayhem.

So these folks were driving a Mercedes SUV before buying a 30 ft airstream before buying a $300 k van. No resource constraints.

Macerator = 💩 garbage disposal. Recommend using a tank additive to break down TP and prevent wear n tear on the motor. I just purchased an Interstate 24X. Good luck with yours!

A 20 year loan on a depreciating asset is financial suicide. This should be for people who have the means. A non motorized Airstream will keep its value much more than a motorized one.m

Everything great but no fix bed??? No way. If u check the wolksvagen Gran California the lay out is on another level. I’m shockedu must sleep on a sofa with a van of 300.000! Insane.

Just hope your not towing the 30 foot trailer with the van. Your going to be severely overweight capacity

    • @Wanderlocal

Definitely not. This could tow a small cargo trailer, but we wouldn’t tow much more than that. :)

They won’t know all the draw backs till they tried it, and then they might like it even more than they thought. Those camp costs are huge for every night, ours in the UK are about £20 per night for 2 people and the dog including electricity of 16 amps, in the high season which would be July and August it’s more like £30 per night, we don’t live full time in ours, but try to spend between 2 to 3 weeks per month from March to October that is the season over here, and then our site closes for winter.
