    I've put my love of mechs to the test and come out on the other side a better man. A man with an appreciation for the fast flying mechs almost on par with my big slow boys swingin' PPCs and AC20s. Let us judge mechs not by the speed of their engagement, but by the explosions of their hardpoints.

    It's so weird to see everyone talking about Armored Core, given it was so niche for so long. I got into it way back in 2002 or so, and from then until just this year, no one but us dedicated fans were still thinking about the series. I'm really happy to see it hit the mainstream, and really excited to see people enjoying a franchise I've been a part of for so long.

    • @AbbreviatedReviews

      It had always been on my radar, and I even picked up one years ago from a retro games store, but I never got around to playing it. Since I've broadened my appreciation of mechs, I've explored more mecha games recently, so I'm looking forward to this as well.
      But I think at the end of the day if From Software hadn't become a household name over the years, it would probably still be as niche as it has been.

      Been playing since AC1, haven't played an ac game since the last one 12 years ago. I super surprised that this niche series is on anyone's radar. Souls really did some heavy lifting for FROMSOFT.

      idk bro the idea of it blipped on my radar during ds3 when the announcement was made that miyazaki was done with darksouls and moved onto another project. @voidgivenfocus I'm really interested in seeing how people take this one, I played AC before Demon's Souls. So I always saw souls as being AC, but instead, you made people. I'm absolutely brimming with excitement for this!!! 12 years of asking, "Where the hell is Armored Core?" Hope this one takes off. Pun very much intended.

      I was entertained by the anime guy character builder. They had all the tropey face and hairstyles you could ever want. I'm also disappointed I didn't get to try the multiplayer, otherwise I'd have mentioned it. It seems like it was a good addition.

    At the very least DXM gets credit for having actual characters and a pilot that can get in and out of the mech at will. That gives a sense of scale Armored Core never could. Mechs actually felt like tools of war, rather than your whole character.

    Regarding Patreon post, I thought the thumbnail was great. It's very in-line with your "anti-clickbait" style and let know that there would be three games and that i only recognized one. I skipped AC5 because unfortunately I dint like it overall enough. So my wait has been closer to 15 years. I played DaemonXMachina and was pretty good with all of the online challenges they added and coop. Another game I would recommend is Gundam Breaker 3 Break Edition (the Break Edition contains all of the DLC that was released for the game in disk).

    • @AbbreviatedReviews
      @AbbreviatedReviews  Год назад +2

      It's hard to weed through the Gundam games that are good and the ones that will make me want to cut my hands off. Though I was mostly going for PC games here just because they're generally pretty accessible and cheap. But PS4 games are still pretty easy to come by so that's probably a good one for the list.

    • @eherden2169
      @eherden2169 Год назад +1

      @@AbbreviatedReviews I sometimes feel that most of the good Gundam games never made it to the West. If you like a turn based JRPGs, I recommend the game MS Saga: A new Dawn (its an original story unrelated to any gundam anime but with the mechs from many gundam universes). Its a PS2 game though so it may require emulation (getting it cheap on ebay is almost impossible).

      More difficult, more grounded DxM pretty much. You can't fly infinitely so you spend more time on the ground/bunny hopping around, and ammo is a bigger consideration but they're fairly similar.

      As a long-time AC series player: Daemon X Machina just didn't scratch the itch. AC4A is still among the best in the franchise. AC6 was good, but it also got me to dust off the 360 and replay V, VD, 4, and 4A, which I like and prefer for different reasons. DXM is kind of a shell next to AC, though.

  • @cnhnx
    @cnhnx Год назад +1

    I disagree calling cel-shaded art style of DxM as "Switch graphics". This obsession of "it must be photorealistic to be considered to be good" is ruining video games, as realism will not aged well as technology progress. I'm not saying DxM is as good or will age finely as Zelda Wind Waker (because not all cel-shaded games the same) but I'd commend their choice of art style.

    • @AbbreviatedReviews
      @AbbreviatedReviews  Год назад

      There are definitely plenty of examples where cel shading looks good and fits the game style, but Daemon X Machina is not one of them. The speed of the action combined with the high contrast of the environment makes the whole thing look messy.

    • @cnhnx
      @cnhnx Год назад

      @@AbbreviatedReviews If that's your complain about DXM graphics then that's deliberate art style choice and has nothing to do with Switch hardware limitation like you implied in the video, as the PC version still has the high contrast environment. I've been dreaming of Armored Core game in bright cel shading after seeing AC Formula Front cover, it can be done and DXM at least scratched that itch.

    • @snek1356
