Theres a difference between "I feel depressed" and "I have depression"
!!!!
Yes, one is used to much an invalidates the real one such like the girl said
yeah, i would've been on the side of agree but i would've clarified that i do not have depression. i had dark moments but it hasn't been a part of my life yet, the question itself was really ambiguous.
Fortnite Zoomers
I have depression
The most Gen Z thing about this video is them not getting the questions at first and being confused / overthinking
thissssssss
Yess exactly what I was thinking
whats up with that? I never saw that in other episodes
Probably Harry style's Hair overtook the purple haired girl's brain cells.
Confused and overthinking aren't the correct words
Do they not realize that them having sent/received nudes is not a matter of opinion? Some of them switched sides like… you either DID or DIDN’T do it
Yeah but the lines are, somewhat agree to strongly agree, so like idk I’d find it out to choose which one I’d fit in to bc like you said it’s a yes or no question
But what about underwear shots. Some consider that nude others don't
In their defense I hate defending them, but like the one girl said she thought they said "NEWS". So she agreed thinking that it was sending/receiving news, but when she realized they said "NUDES" she switched to disagree side.
@@AkonFenty1992 Even after the question was clarified and they went to their new spots, Theo basically jumped to the otherside and that girl still switched lines afterwards too
@@TheNinjapancake14 You're right.
First off, that wasn't the question. "Have you sent or received nudes" Not how you feel about them.
Most of the questions were just dodged...who directed this LOL
I don't get why you people seem so appalled at their choice of actions towards the question. Like it doesn't even matter.
Yup. They were so dishonest lol. Like, okay, gurl, you still sent them.
@@davidmays8974 Because they were supposed to be honest and answer the question lol. Which most of them didn't do. Most of them wanted to babble about they the feel about the topic rather than truthfully answer the question, and some of them even switched sides after they realized they were in the minority. They cared more about what the others thought than how they themselves truly felt. I hope these people don't represent the majority of GenZ. If so, that's pretty sad.
@@ville666sora
They responded towards their own interpretation of the question, just because some of them switched sides does not mean they did it because they were the minority, overall your comment is just a bunch of assumptions. I have no problem with the people within the video, to be honest if all of you get this overworked over how they answered a simple question, then I have more of a problem with _you._
how can you switch sides on “i have sent or received nudes” lmfaooo it’s a yes or no question
They are too embarrassed to admit it

They shouldn't have asked that in the first place. If they would be embarrassed. It would have been better if they had asked about the effects of social media, orthe push for young pplto enter the sex industry

I find it funny how they chose the most stereotypical gen z people ever
@@c2ssidy Yes! These guys are literally in their 20s. Why not pick the ones born 2000 and up?
I forgot about the 20-21 year olds... Ok chill...
@@steakhorse3269 agreed! I was hoping to see kids more around 14-18 that aren’t popular online or anything. Just the average teen 🤷♀️
@@c2ssidy totally agree.
I listen to everything my kids say. I want my kids to have their own thoughts and change the world. I am Hispanic and yes I am conservative because I lived in a communist country, but I let them speak and I hear them out. Mental health is real. Whenever I had an opinion as a kid I would get a beating if it was not what my parents wanted to hear. Violence gets you no where. I am proud of your generation.
This episode was hard to watch as a Gen Z
*I think if they had more variety in the ages, the opinions would’ve been more diverse and interesting.* These guys all look like they’re close to the same age, even if they’re part of Gen Z…
this is exactly what i’m saying
yeah they can be as young as 12
@ShaisPas I'd agree but the questions would need to change. It's not acceptable ethically and morally to ask a 12 year old if they have sent or received nudes. Some questions, like the political one, would probably also need to change because most 12 year olds aren't fully educated on topics related
@ShaisPas Yeah, it would be cool to see. Especially when justifying their reasoning for standing where they stood
@@maddiehoward1695 very true
The first question was literally a yes or no question...
How the hell they switch sides on a whim? If you sent/received nudes you can't just switch your answer because of some random ass conversation about if you agree or not about doing that. You either sent/received them or not...
Lol exactly my thoughts! The ones that ended up switching leads me to believe that they clearly have lol smh...
No they misheard the question they thought they said News not nudes
@@rubyhuebner4568 It was only that one girl that did lol, I’m pretty sure the rest heard it accordingly
u can also receive unsolicited nudes from creepy people online and u can forget about it
The comprehension... yikes
Them switching sides on a whim is literally the physical representation of Gen Z.
my exact thought lmao
I find it funny the first one the switch it's like you've either gotten them or not how can you switch
I think that is also a positive. They are willing to consider other points of view and change their minds. Not stay stuck on one mindset

I dont think they asked the right questions, i feel as though it didnt really address our issues
I’m guessing that all of these people were sampled from LA or SF. Most of our generation isn’t like these people
I agree it was pretty lackluster 😕
Yeah they were all over the place from skinny jeans to so are you depressed?
@@kenangedik3678 Well yeah I guess it depends where you live and what environment you grew up in... I live near Montreal in Canada and most of gen Z here is like this. I thought these people were very relatable. Maybe there are actually a lot of people around you that are similar, but they don't feel comfortable expressing their views because their family and community are more conservative and perhaps even intolerant.
@@kenangedik3678 I’d disagree I’m from the UK and a lot of us are like them, that being said it can definitely vary depending on where you’re from
Completely agree with the overuse of the word “Depression.” HOWEVER, not all depression looks the same. Saying that depression only looks like the inability to perform daily tasks invalidates others experiences. I have high functioning depression. For years I used goals and ambition and over-working to compensate for my emptiness and suicidal tendencies. I didn’t think I had depression, but after a suicide attempt I went to a therapist and was diagnosed after a few sessions. I’m heavily medicated now and it’s changed my life for the better. So please don’t talk about how depression can only look one way-that can push people like me to not seek treatment until it’s almost too late.
AGREED !! As someone who has been diagnosed with depression, it is one of the biggest spectrums ever.
What are meds like? I'm a little hesitant to take them...did they really help more than just therapy? What were side effects like?
@@morayoadedapo2457 Hi! I see it has been a few days, but these were the questions I had about meds as well. First of all, meds are *not* a replacement for therapy. Rather you should see it as an aid to make your lows feel not dangerously low. The side effect is that your highs might not feel so high either so basically it tries to level your extreme feelings. This is often great to help you in your day to day life as it might just mean you will take that shower or not have a meltdown. However, it doesnt cure your depression which is often the downfall for a lot of people. They think they are doing great and then stop taking their meds, only to fall back in their old style. That is why meds is often prescribed to keep you going when youre on a waitinglist to seek help, or if you are in therapy and your therapist think this will help until you get to a point in your journey where you might not need them anymore.
As to which kind of meds of course depends on your state of mind, your doctor/therapist opinion and experiences, health insurance and of course how you react to them. Have a conversation with your specialist and discuss any fears you might have. For me for example, I was afraid of turning into a zombie where days would pass by without me knowing as that happened to people I personally knew. So I got medication that I could dose in drops and tested under survaillance to see on what level I felt comfortable with and could easily lower or top up without too many side effects that might happen with trying to dose pills. My side effects were heavy sweating, lowered libido, and lost of appitite from one medication, and with the one I had been on for quite some time, the sweating went away and other two were doing a lot better than they had been on the other meds. However this is different for everyone and is sadly trial and error.
Hope you will feel better soon!
100% agree!! i’ve been diagnosed for two years now and since i’m a germaphobe i constantly feel the need to be clean and tidy and it seriously bothers me if i’m unclean.
Not everythin needs to be validated. Words have meaning. Gen Z thinks everyone is referring to them, its a sign of severe narcissism.
I feel like these questions didn’t really cover our generation, it more just random questions like it goes from “have you sent nudes?” To politics
Ikr.. there cud be far more important issues to cover
yeah i agree,, also hi quackity fan!
I like the diversity of the questions
Just the skinny jeans was really out of the topic. Like... I really don't care about fashion.
Everything else I found it was ok. Except when they were a bit "yes or no" like, have send nudes, it is a yes or no question. Receive news from youtube (it could say social media).
Those were my only suggestions for change
You wouldn't ask the nudes question any other generation. The question in the video was very irrelevant in my opinion.
Yea I think like this is the worst episode of Spectrum. And disappointed cuz it could have been a really great video.
Them not understanding the questions and being confused about their answers is a better representation of Gen Z than the whole video tbh 💀
Lmao I wouldn't want to answer the nudes question straightforward either
@Alex A. Because jubilee normally doesn't ask questions in that manner. It should have been something like "I have been negatively impacted by social media" or "I have felt pressured to send nudes" that gives you better answers and a better conversation. Then following that up with skinny jeans? It just makes them seem vapid
@Alex A. I suppose, but they're also not the ones editing it so maybe they did. This is the only video they've done that I've been so disappointed so ig I just expected better
Fortnite Zoomers
@@LoreEclectic so true I feel like this video poorly represented Gen z as a whole like honestly who cares about skinny jeans, where are the impactful questions? Idk maybe just me.
Depression is a mental illness that shouldn’t be romanticized. Still, everyone has felt depressed. It’s human. But even depression that is not chronic shouldn’t be romanticized. I don’t know why y’all take pride in or brag about being sad lol
Because it's a trend for them to have a depression... It's their way to get sympathy and attention... It's also a way to say that they are strong and brave even though they've lived a very comfortable and entitled life lol...😂
You can partly thank Billie Ellish influence on this generation. It’s so infuriating to see
I remember the therapist talking to me about it. It was so jarring cuase I’ve heard of it, but didn’t know you could develop it later in life.
I believe it’s almost impossible to go through the hormone change of going from child to adult without experiencing depression at least temporarily. I mean you could say that they “get depressed” over something going wrong and it’s not really depression. But if you think back, you can remember that it literally can feel like life is over. Depression is a chemical issue in the brain and their chemicals are all over the place at that age. I doubt anyone gets through adolescence without depression.
we love being victimized, that's why everything is apparently lgbtq+ so people can claim to be victims

I totally agree with what Sabah said about how “loosely” the term “depressed” is thrown around. I have been dealing with depression for years and whenever I hear someone say “I’m so depressed” because they failed a test or got a shitty grade or whatever. I wish people could find a different word to describe their feelings instead of using the word “depressed” because depression is so hard to cope with, and it’s definitely not appropriate to use in a “jokey” way.
Well there's a difference between having *a* depression and feeling depressed. Feeling depressed is simply a symptom of clinical depression/despressive disorder etc. Severity can range between sad to suicidal. The term is simply too vague in English. Taking my mother tongue as example: When something's depressing said thing is "deprimierend"; when I'm depressed, I'm "deprimiert" but when I'm suffering under a depression then I'm "depressiv" in German.
She says that while standing in strongly agree

"I feel like we should be teaching this in schools"
As a 28 year old, I can say I WAS taught critical thinking and research in school. When I was in high school, every research paper we had to write had to cite at least 3 sources and none of them could be from the same site/author. We were even taught how to properly cite the sources in MLA format. Learning to verify information you see online isn't a "new" skill. In fact, its only been the last few years that have seen this type of critical thinking fall out of public education.
instead of asking sources, ask what they think about it or meaning in their own way with out chewing them out, then you will get the critical thinking, citing sources means nothing in modern world. i can write essay with sources just by reverse searching over internet.

Depression has become a personality trait for a lot of teenagers of our generation.
It's a serious mental illness so let's not treat it like a ''trend''.
I'm glad they addressed that in the video.
yes! agreed
someone finally said it- he really said ‘come on girlys’ as if it’s quirky
To be fair they asked about being depressed not clinical depression specifically. Anyone can be depressed or go into a depression but that doesn’t mean they have the clinical depression that is a mental illness (the one where ur brain chemistry is off). I think that’s why it varies so much but I agree that it’s not a trend or personality trait and ppl shouldn’t treat it as one
but also, the other side is ppl ypu act "depressed" cause its a trend and gets attention, it also shows it has serious underlying issues
Well it's hard to treat it as a mental illness when mental illness is like a glorified badge to wear the moment you speak to someone it's like this now example: hi my name is and excuse me for doing this I have ocd adhd, or I'm depressed so I'm going to go take my medication or people list their medication. So I see depression for us Gen z's as a trend because we have nothing else going for us. Technology isn't even being innovative by us we are just piggy backing off of people approximately 10 to 40 years older than us. So instead of getting to the root of our issue and saying God I feel like I'm going no where...out generations response to Everything is....I'm depressed or that's depressing it's flippant
Make a part two with controversial statements like : I think my generation is sensitive, Gen Z have it hardest in education, Technology has a negative effect with my generation, I think any form of hitting is abuse, Cancel Culture should be discouraged, etc.
Yeahhh that wouldve been so much better
YESSS that wouldve made the video better and the converstations deeper

I am 19 gen z and I do have different opinions for some too..some more dark while some completed different. But overall I feel the vibe of the gen has been captured well enough. Well tbh..its not that great of an age difference and i would love to see a part 2 too.🤜🤛
@Kate GIbs I do because me and like all my friends would’ve been on the COMPLETELY opposite side to the lines so I do think we need teens for this
I am on the younger side of gen z so seeing older ppls opinions interest me
Same. I feel like teens today have such different opinions. I’m 16 and my sister who is only 2 years younger than me is much more politically aware than me and most of those in my grade. Honestly, teens today are so much more aware of societal issues than almost anyone who came before us.

I find it kind of funny that they asked about skinny jeans because I feel like millennials are more preoccupied with whether skinny jeans are in or out of style than gen z people are

They really should have worded the “have you felt depressed” question differently. There’s a huge difference between going through depression and feeling depressed(the emotion). Everyone has felt depressed, not everyone has gone through depression
yes!! exactly!
Then they weren’t asking if you had depression...... 😂
I think that it was phrased that way to mean depression but allow for people that weren't or aren't officially diagnosed. that's how I interpreted it anyway.
Right!
I think they worded it that way to bring about this exact discourse but the people in the video seemed only to have interpreted it as depression in terms if being a mental health issue. Ofc lots of stuff is edited out so they may have talked about it idk
I'm a gen x x Old enough to be Theo's mom. I just cried over his pain. Bulling wasn't something I ever experienced. I'm sort of a sticks and stones gal, so his experience was hard to relate to but his pain was not hard to empathize with
As a Gen Z, this video honestly made me quite mad. I also feel like you guys always get people who mostly have the same opinions. A lot of what was said by the participants made my blood boil. It annoys me even more thinking that the other generations viewing this video will think we’re all like this. (The one thing I did think was relatable though was the indecisiveness.)

Zy Xenos It was actually happening way before tiktok and it’s not totally the fault of social media though it does play a part. It has something to do with the reward center of our brains. With the way we grew up, we expect quick rewards (immediate comedy, catchy songs, etc) and because of that, anything that takes a while to get to the good part is given up on or we zone out.

Gen a working on my masters in education so I can teach media studies. My goal is get media literacy in high schools across the country as a mandatory class so that all people have access to understanding how to interpret media and make informed decisions. I started crying hearing other gen z’s say this is needed and they want this to be taught in schools. It was so validating that I’m doing the right thing by following this goal and that others see it’s importance too. Much love to my generation- we truly are making moves towards change.

To be honest, they should blind fold the participants and then have them remove it after they made a decision, this will help them from moving or influence by other's choices (to help avoid bias). We all know that if you see other's choices, you tend to mirror what others (to not be judged) pick unless they're feel strongly about the question being asked.

For context Gen Z starts from 1997/96 and ends roughly around 2012. So most of us are between 25yrs and 9yrs. And I can guarantee you that ¾s of us will tell you that we've been depressed because of social media and current "lifestyle" expectations i.e being a millionaire at 21yrs.
👏
I wouldn’t say 3/4 of gen z is depressed because depression is more so of a diagnosis I use social media but I’m not depressed and same goes for a ton of other people I’m happy with who I am and you might be misinterpreting the word depression and you just might feel sad.I feel like people often misuse depression a ton when it’s often just a person feeling sad
Gen z also can start at 1995 there is really no accepted metric because Generations are made up. A lot of places started at 95 some places started at 1992 and someplace it started at 2005. The general years there are 95 to 96

Okay, that's just a LOVELY way to start a video about our generation.
as a someone who is part of gen z and have been depressed for the past like 7 years it’s a little bit irritating how that one girl was trying to say like oh you can’t be depressed unless you completely stop taking care of yourself like it’s completely different for everyone on the outside my mental illness isn’t super apparent bc i try to carry myself differently than how i feel. it’s very personal and depression can manifest in a variety of ways and only the person can truly know how it feels and manifests for themselves
I think she was talking more about how people shame you for not taking care of hygiene when your depressed rather then saying it is the only form of depression. I agree with you though, I've been depressed for I think 3 years and it gets annoying that people minimize it just because its not something vary visual, near the beginning for me it was not vary noticeable but by the last year hygiene was out the window, i delt with both the minimization of my depression and the shame about my hygiene. i just wish people that didn't understand could shut the fuck up sometimes.
