Dave Filoni said in a interview that this episode was at first a total disaster. George had Battle of the Bulge, the Four Feathers, Battle over Britain and they took a bunch of stock footage and footage of movies they had and literally cut that episode together out of live action footage and that's why the pace of this episode feels so fast and up until this point they never did anything like this in animation.

George Lucas also said that they weren't making this show for TV they were making it for the big screen. He said to Dave Filoni that he needed to think this show as a feature. Every thing about it like the style, the attention to detail, the lighting. So every thing they did on this show was done at a feature level, even though it was going television.

Something really interesting is that Palpatine most of the times put Anakin in battles that he would win most of the times so his popularity increased which did and Anakin became one of the war heroes in the Republic's eyes

The Geonosian arc is one of my favorites. The four episodes are different from each other but each has aspects of Clone Wars I love (a part of it is how different each episode can be).
Weird trivia for this episode: -At the start of the episode Anakin and Ahsoka claimed to came from a mission near Dorin(the home-world of the Kel-dor Plo Koon species) -Ki-ad-mundi was originally supposed to appear in holocron heist but his model was’t ready so he was written out. So, about them being able to sense the rocks, I will quote Yoda in Empire Strikes Back; "My ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us, binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. *You must feel the Force flow around you. There's a really neat film sound featurette called "THX Soundtrack!" off an old laserdisc demo called THX WOW (which also includes a nifty, extended Star Wars trilogy/Indiana Jones trilogy/Willow montage that was used to show off sound systems back in the day). Anyways, "Soundtrack!" goes into a scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade's audio, layer by layer (from on-set audio, to dialogue or effects layers to music). It also shows off a couple examples from Star Wars and Empire of the on-set audio (such as David Prowse delivering Vader's lines, etc). A neat thing to check out for those curious about any of those aspects of sound.
First battle of Geonosis, the Republic had half the jedi council and most of the clone army available vs most of the Separatist battle droids...this time it's only 4 generals and their armies...It's pretty impressive all they did with that amount of firepower ! Also the more see the battle of the Clone Wars and the more i realize how much the air superiority seems to always be on the Republic side ! I guess the Republic Navy and the amount of Venator cruiser are their ultimate advantage, air vs ground for the Separatist ! The good cruiser and battlecruiser seem to come only at the end of the war for the Separatist...i wonder if it's a question of contracts or shipyard ? They are supposed to have Fondor aka top 5 one of the best. Will have to check Eckhartsladder !!
The Republic has ALL of the big heavy Industry of the Galaxy. Fondor, Kuat, Rothana etc. So the CIS fought an uphill battle from the start. Most of the seppis troops are upgraded private armys and planetary defence forces. Thats why most of the clonewars were the "outer rim sieges". The Seperatist literally could do nothing else than bunker up and hope the Repulics war support will fade XD
If only you guys knew. Ki-Adi-Mundi is basically the example what the Jedi shouldn’t be, and of how far the Jedi fell even before the clone wars. He had little to no value for his troops, and he didn’t see them as people but as tools. He held very strictly to the Jedi code. His species is gravely endangered so he had permission from the Jedi council to take wives and bear children, but he basically abandoned them all. He had dozens of concubines and many more children and he never even met one of them. You’ll see more of his personality in the later seasons of clone wars.
There's a reason he led the galactic marines alongside Bacarra. You had to be that way to lead a battalion given some of the toughest, most deadly conflicts.
Damn the way they treat the Genonosians in this show is fucking brutal. I kinda hate how they burn them alive, kill thousands, and then make it into a game about how many you’ve killed. Ik the kill count includes droids but still, pretty dark when you think about it.
Fun fact poggle the lesser was originally a very low ranking member in the caste system of his species. After showing great leadership skills and defeating the previous arkduke he took the title for himself. The cane he uses is actually the leg of his predecessor. Geonosians are very interesting
One of the best episodes of the series. And the series has A lot of good ones. Also one big continuity error here. Ki Adi Mundi says in the beginning "there is no such thing as luck" But later on the surface he says "with any luck we meet Skywalker on his way to Kenobi" Dude changed his mind pretty fast :D. Also the 2 clones (Waxxer and Boil) that rescued Obi wan were the ones on Ryloth with the little Twilek girl.
Season 2 is very underrated imo. The whole season is an homage to different movie genres. War films, horror, monster flicks, it really is just George Lucas and the team showing their love for cinema. And for that, I appreciate it.
I love that anakin recognizes how young ahsoka is so to reduce the potential trauma from her being in a war he turns it into a game so that she can focus on it that way
The Geonosians are highly civilized actually, they are just ferocious warriors defending their planet from a foreign invasion - again! Don't forget these guys are weapon manufacturers and were the initial engineers of the Death Star itself before Krennic and his team took over. They have what we would define as "barbaric traditions" such as the execution arena stuff, but so do the Wookies and yet few of us ever look down on them.
Fun fact Ki adi Mundi was allowed by the other Jedi to follow the Cerean custom of polygamous marriage due to the low Cerean birthrate-he had four honor wives and seven daughters . The entire family was killed during the Battle of Cerea
Just think this operation requires 4 Jedi Generals and their apprentices. However, the landings have no air support on account of being needed elsewhere. That either means that a more important operation is being conducted that we do not see or Admiral Yularen HATES Anakin. I am inclined to believe the later.
Following the Clone Wars, the Geonosians were forced by the Galactic Empire to assist in the construction of the Death Star. Though a new archduke was appointed to lead the Stalgasin hive, the Geonosians became a servant species to the Empire.
15:02 Even though they look cool and they did appear in the Sequel Trilogy and the Mandalorian, you actually will never see modern militaries using flamethrowers. Much like how the Geneva Convention banned the use of chemical gas warfare after the first World War. Question: Is there a reason why most of skywalkers clone battalion still have their stock-white armor while kenobi's and Mundi's batallions have more stylized designs? Was it just a budgetary limitation or is there an in-universe reason?
could be a number of reasons. not all of the 212th are in camo, Cody is in his normal armor. It could very well be that clones that are specialized for desert warfare have desert camo, and since Anakin's opinions on sand are known he isn't expected to fight there and therefor don't have clones with desert camo. could be they did not have time to resupply on desert armor. who knows?

@@schnocksej.6774 I believe Dooku was able to convince Sluis Van to join the Separatists so the Separatists weren't completely without shipyards.
The CIS navy was really good but the Republic has better air support/ cas
If you Look closely you can see that Waxer has painted Numa (that little girl) on the side of his helmet
The scene where Waxer and Boil were sent out to save Obi wan gave Saving Private Ryan D-day vibes
Mundi's commander in this episode was the one who killed Mundi with his clones in Episode III, btw.
@Everything fiction What happened with jet?
Suraj hasn’t seen Saving Private Ryan. Movie night Normies!
I don’t think Rana has either
Damn the way they treat the Genonosians in this show is fucking brutal. I kinda hate how they burn them alive, kill thousands, and then make it into a game about how many you’ve killed. Ik the kill count includes droids but still, pretty dark when you think about it.
Ki adi Mundi, one of the few jedi officially allowed to get his fuck on due to being an endangered race.
"This is the best episode yet!"
Get ready to say that about 30 more times...
that fortress looks like one of those training platform the bad batch use to train in kamino
Ki-adi-mundi was a psychopath lmao
Using a flamethrower is a War crime! Bom bad jedi!
This is Star Wars D-Day and one of my favourit episodes of all time
Fun fact poggle the lesser was originally a very low ranking member in the caste system of his species. After showing great leadership skills and defeating the previous arkduke he took the title for himself. The cane he uses is actually the leg of his predecessor. Geonosians are very interesting
It was George Lucas's idea to say "Bring in the flamethrowers!"
This episode always gave be big D-Day vibes
This is the episode where Clone Wars starts getting epic... I am happy you reached here
Imagine the credit the clone gunship pilots get if they managed to successfully land
One of the best episodes of the series. And the series has A lot of good ones.
Also one big continuity error here. Ki Adi Mundi says in the beginning "there is no such thing as luck"
But later on the surface he says "with any luck we meet Skywalker on his way to Kenobi"
Dude changed his mind pretty fast :D.
Also the 2 clones (Waxxer and Boil) that rescued Obi wan were the ones on Ryloth with the little Twilek girl.
The episode where The Clone Wars levelled up and became one of the best parts of Star Wars.
Season 2 is very underrated imo. The whole season is an homage to different movie genres. War films, horror, monster flicks, it really is just George Lucas and the team showing their love for cinema. And for that, I appreciate it.
remember anakin and asoka were talking about droids mostly and ki adi was counting the geonsisains not droids
the clones got major drip
I'll say it and i'll say it again, the invasion of Geonosian is D-Day, and Felucia is Vietnam
Umbrara is Vietnam
I love that anakin recognizes how young ahsoka is so to reduce the potential trauma from her being in a war he turns it into a game so that she can focus on it that way
At 8:00 you guys missed a really good moment between Anakin and Ahsoka because of the cinematography lol
This was the Episode that really made me love this show. Which is actually kinda sad that it took one and a half seasons :D
Cody's back must really hurt for carrying this battle.
Fun fact Ki adi Mundi was allowed by the other Jedi to follow the Cerean custom of polygamous marriage due to the low Cerean birthrate-he had four honor wives and seven daughters . The entire family was killed during the Battle of Cerea
I always recommend this episode for people who still think this show was only for kids.
_"I've been looking forward to this."_
Just think this operation requires 4 Jedi Generals and their apprentices. However, the landings have no air support on account of being needed elsewhere. That either means that a more important operation is being conducted that we do not see or Admiral Yularen HATES Anakin. I am inclined to believe the later.
Episodes like this is why I say this show is PEAK star wars and no one can change my mind.
"It's like a zombie" Famous last words
Following the Clone Wars, the Geonosians were forced by the Galactic Empire to assist in the construction of the Death Star. Though a new archduke was appointed to lead the Stalgasin hive, the Geonosians became a servant species to the Empire.
An interesting point to note down is that mundi is a psychopath, due to him being unable to feel emotions.
15:02 Even though they look cool and they did appear in the Sequel Trilogy and the Mandalorian, you actually will never see modern militaries using flamethrowers.
Much like how the Geneva Convention banned the use of chemical gas warfare after the first World War. Flamethrowers are also banned too for the risk of how much damage can be caused if things go absolutely wrong.
Finally, we in the good episodes now!!
The budget and quality becomes so much better as the show progresses! Also please consider doing multiple episodes at a time 😭
Supremely satifying.
oh boi they're almost at the parasite episode
Congrats 🎉🥳 you now officially reached the point where Clone Wars enters some juicy territory and and the really good arcs start to pop up left and right
13:23
The slow blade penetrates the shield.
Not Anakin trying to make war fun for Ahsoka 💀
I think there is only 1 lightsaber throw in the entire series and you're not even close to that episode yet
but don't worry, it's so epic it will be well worth the wait ;)
This episode is so great in general, but specifically for anyone that's a fan of war movie epics. It's full of homages to stuff like Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, etc.
Some would say Kai-Adi-Mundi is a major reason the Emperor won.
So happy to see you guys enjoying the show so far wait to see the umbara arc every single clone shine so brightly in these episodes along with general krell
Question: Is there a reason why most of skywalkers clone battalion still have their stock-white armor while kenobi's and Mundi's batallions have more stylized designs? Was it just a budgetary limitation or is there an in-universe reason?
Anakin is more focused on flair through action, not design.
could be a number of reasons. not all of the 212th are in camo, Cody is in his normal armor. It could very well be that clones that are specialized for desert warfare have desert camo, and since Anakin's opinions on sand are known he isn't expected to fight there and therefor don't have clones with desert camo. could be they did not have time to resupply on desert armor. who knows?
Normies: MUNDI IS AWESOME!!!! awwwwww he so sweet!!!!
Me who knows about Mundi and his real personality: Oh you poor poor misguided souls, if only you knew......................
clone wars really has some of the best star wars content
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS EPISODE!!!!!
During season 2 and onward George told then to make it like they were making a feature film not a weekly tv show it only goes up from this point
I like that y’all said it felt like a war documentary cause that was actually what it was based on. This episode is said to be modelled off of classic war movies, I can’t wait till y’all see umbara
12 year old (ish) me: So cool flamethrowers
22 year old me: What in the War Crimes is goin on?!!
17:00 That still only counts as one!
Boil and Waxer make their return!! Yay!!
This was a D-Day inspired episode. Also, Palpatine is letting the war drag on so that he can increase the executive emergency powers of the Chancellor's office and for the point when Anakin is ready to be turned, ie when Dooku is dead and Anakin is at his most vulnerable.
Do you remember Waxer and Boil from the Twi'lek girl Numa episode?
This is my absolute favorite episode of season 2!!!
16:42 UMBARA.. UMBARA.. UMBARA!
The Landing at Point Rain was the most "war movie" episode of Clone Wars since Ryloth....and until the Umbaran Campaign.
Its a well shot arc.
Another fine mess was a Laurel n Hardy saying :)
I feel like someone should mention that at least to my memory there isn't a single proper lightsaber throw in this show
Savage oppress decapitateing the black sun council
@@fireball9601 touché although I've interpreted them wanting a lightsaber throw as one where the saber comes back otherwise I would've counted yoda
Actually there is one coming up. Season 2 episode 13. Anakin throws his lightsaber at a droid.
@@jackson857 damn I'm apparently just forgetting all the throws that happen in this show
