Sweet man!!!! We used to use hog feed - cheep and apparently edible!!! Sometimes they just don’t come quickly to just bread in our canals - we found that vanilla extract gives a little extra draw! Thanks for the compliment!!!
I enjoyed this video! Do you ever get any snakehead Fry whilst cast-netting? Up North here off Lake Michigan by Chicago, I chum for bait fish (Alewife, Rainbow Smelt, Round Goby and Emerald Shiners). Since castnetting is illegal here on most DNR owned & Managed lakes (private or public), cast-netting is frowned upon. There for I have to use dinners, Seine nets or sometimes - Sabiki rig them up.
Hey man. Sorry to hear that cast nets are illegal up there. Why is that?? We do get snakehead fry in the spring. They are actually really easy to spot. They stick together in real think pods and bubble on the top of the water. I’ve caught several hundred before. They actually make great bait
Lol dude I live 5 minutes from there I know this exact spot. I’ve fished here forever and never took the tim to catch shiners. I gotta try to net some now
Thanks for subscribing! I’ve never tried sabiki’s for Chad. I’ve thought about it a few times but I’ve never actually tried. Is that something that you’ve done?
@@watchyourlip3209 I usually fish saltwater and we use them to catch pilchards, greenies etc out of Port St Lucie. But I was thinking of hitting a couple bait spots on Lake Ida and hone in on a few bait balls on the sonar and try a sibiki off the back of the boat. I'm sure you could also cut up some night crawlers and put them on the hooks to get the shads attention... Your thoughts?
Sounds like a plan. To be honest, I’ve never heard of anybody catching shad on rod and reel but it works for pilchards and greenies so it makes a lot of sense. I’ve just never tried it. I definitely bring a cast net as back up. If you can find them on the fishfinder it is really super easy to catch them with a net
So, steel cut oatmeal, bread, and vanilla extract? That's what you use? I have to try that. I used to live in florida, out in missouri now. Curious if this will work. i have no idea lol.
@@watchyourlip3209 I appreciate the response. I subbed. I didnt get a notification. i checked this video again. I got steel cut oats from quaker oats. they're granules. regular white bred and pure vanilla extract and sugar. YOu said sugar in the video. It got really thick. I used a whole loaf of bread sinc ei kinda added too much water hahaha. a whole container of oats too. whoops. Lets see how it works. :) Thanks man! Greetings from KCMO. I am a florida native, but moved to kc.
How much vanilla extract is a little? That could be a few drops, or a tablespoon. Same with the sugar. Also, do you cook the oatmeal and add the sugar, Vanilla, and bread afterwards, or just mix the uncooked oats and other stuff with a little water?
Absolutely. We are in Broward county but I believe they live all over the state. Look for canals with eel grass in So Fl. They also live near banks of lakes as well
I looked this up because this baby fish appeared in the upper tank of my stock tank pond filter/ waterfall. My mystery fish appears to be a golden shiner. All I can figure is a fish egg carried to this empty tank by being stuck to a frog?
to be honest, we are having a harder time recently getting wild shiners readily. Not sure if its the time of year or what, but its been thinner for sure. We are still catching them but, its not "1 - N - DONE" like it used to be
@@watchyourlip3209 I fish C14, the 12 year old loves to cast net, we are going to try this. we are bank catch and release fishermen, but it appears you are casting near the bank so should be fine, thoughts?
Best part these videos they are real.. keep them coming 👍🏻
michael shramko super real!!!! Thanks
You guys seem like your experts!😂 Great Job!
Ever Amaris working on the “expert” thing!!! Thanks man
Great video! We use horse feed to first chum then just use whole wheat bread.

@@Mossberg590Mariner cool bro. It takes some trail and error to find what works for bait fish in your area. Let me know what works. Thanks for the sub

Hi. Great video.
Will cat food also work?
Thanks
See Dee yes. Probably. Sometimes dry chum will not bring them. I find that the vanilla extract really drives him crazy
Behind my brother's house. Awesome!
Matt Roll yeah man. He lives on a “honey hole”
🙌🏽
Jarren Meyer oh yeah!!!

That’s cool. Let me now how it goes.
Anyone know where to catch shiners in the naples/ fort myers area? Im tired of paying 10$/ dozen for them
I feel you bro. Have you tried chumming for them?
@@watchyourlip3209 i haven't, but i also havent seen them swimming, but ill try it next time i go out.
Do you have eel grass in your local canals? Shiners love hanging out in that stuff
Bigger the bait the bigger the fish
No offense but you don’t need to make a whole desert for the shiners you can just use bread
None taken dude. Sometimes they’re slow to get chummed up so I give it a little hep
Are wild shiners getting hard to find? Even my old boss who lives in Florida has been buying domestic. And it’s not because of money
to be honest, we are having a harder time recently getting wild shiners readily. Not sure if its the time of year or what, but its been thinner for sure. We are still catching them but, its not "1 - N - DONE" like it used to be
Where is this? I've been looking into getting my own shiners.
Way bigger then the little one you got i fish with 10” to14” Shinners

Big shiners catch big bass.
