I don’t think this film’s aim is to show mechanics replacing organics. This is a story about what is real. The girl had a love for nature, in other words, authenticity. Substance. Beauty. It was the same reason why she fell in love with the man, because what he offered her - a flower, was genuine. But soon she realised they were living in world where nothing is what it seems. People were surrounded by false, superficial things that sometimes was sometimes utterly deceiving. She grew distressed, but the final straw was when her husband threw away the one genuine thing he had given her, symbolised by the flower. She died of a broken heart while her husband, filled with regret, indulged in yet another superficial thing. Recreating his wife’s image in the automaton was his last and ultimate fantasy. What he didn’t realise was that love is not an invention. It’s made.

It's true. You can even tell when the woman looks around the mechanical world she feels trapped because she starts hyperventilating. Everything is an illusional, due to run a certain course, all mechanical, nothing really real.

I think you have a wonderful interpretation of this film. The only thing I disagree with is at the end, where you said recreating his wife's image was his last and ultimate fantasy. I don't think it was his final fantasy, and I don't think he was happy, as seen by yellow colour and his sad posture and the way he gazes at the genuine flower he kept. I think he created it, because he doesn't know what else to do in a world so full of mechanics that it's basically brainwashed him. But he recognises it doesn't replace his real wife and that something mechanical is nowhere near as good as the real thing.

Wow I've got no words. This is exactly what's happening, people are getting so mechanical that they are forgetting life isn't that mechanical. Being an animator myself I consider this a really great work.

Two people from contrasting cultures fall in love and marry. He takes her off to his land, which is SOOOO foreign to her way of life. Initially, up in the clouds, she finds it all unique and novel. But after reality sets in, she cherishes the only piece of her old life that she has, the flower. He innocently tosses it out, and something inside her dies. In his love for her, he uses his talents and what he knows to create a new heart for her, a heart that responds to the foreign culture and knows how to thrive therein.
An interpretation (for better or worse) from a bride in the process of adapting to a foreign country.

On the one hand, being a lover of steampunk, I think all that clockwork stuff is awesome. . .on the other hand, I can totally understand the girl's pain in finding pretty much nothing organic around anymore. Gotta have balance, people!

What I learned was that: People and true beauty cannot truly be replaced by technology and even if so they will never be the same, Love is like a living flower and it needs to be taken care of and nourished it can be a hassle, but the outcome is what makes it worth it, Love like a beautiful flower can wither and die if no attention is paid to it

I finally found my way back to one of my favorite short films. I shared it a while back, but it was difficult to locate it on my facebook.
I love how this film brings out a lot of things we should prioritize in life...
We definitely take this world for granted. I think the woman to some extent symbolizes mother earth and how fragile nature really is. Her soul is at one with this planet, so as the plant dies, so does she. Without love, care and attention, relationships die and no invention can replace human compassion.
Perhaps it also points out what it's like to be so real, in a world where nothing real is valued, which is sad, but seems relevant in todays' society..
Thank you so much for sharing your soul with us!

    Tinker scene with clockwork heart,
That build the world with metal part.
With all such glory and all such sight,
Can lead the world in utter blight.
What the means to love at all?
When man can build a maiden thrall?
For what's the role without such death?
For maiden spewed, with nothing breath.

I guess its the perfect title for the story....! This man, who's a fantastic engineer builds everything with nuts n bolts.... But as the saying goes "Too Good is to Bad", his creativity turns into a cursed disaster - his beloved Wife's death. There in his city, everything was made out of bolts, even the living ones, the undead.... There was nothing natural, infact, the nature was destroyed. All that remained was a City of Junk....! He thought everything could be built. But untill his wife's death who was a lovely women. She was tired of all the bolty nutty crap around her.... He then after her death thinks that he can built her too,. Yes, he did it, but he could not find his wife in it, it was just a machine after-all.... The moral of the Story is "Love can never be invented...."

I realized that the air has different color. At the beginning, when they're surrounded by nature, it has blue air (prolly means fresh and clean air), when they move to that industrial place, the air has turned rusty-yellow (prolly polluted air from all the industrialization). I believe the wife died because of the unclean air, since I noticed at 3:40 when they almost arrive at the city, she coughs. The polluted air is poison for the wife since she's used to fresh n clean air of nature.

    "Tuesday the eighteenth of July.
My latest apparatus is the only thing that's keeping her alive
I had to stop her heart
The mechanical replacement will ensure the other organs will survive
    Her body is destroyed
But what nature has neglected the fruit of modern science shall provide
And I've broken every code of practice
But for my love I'd shift the planet's axis
She'll return to me when she's been repaired
    She'll live again
And I swear I can see the gleam
In her eyes amidst the new machines
And at night I can hear her whisper..."

Simple and amazing. An adaptation that has and will carry on for generations. Gadgets and gizmos of yester-year and today still seem to overtake our lives. Some see them as our way, but it is the simplest of things that run our lives. Nature, love, living. When you lose sight of reality, you lose the interest in what really matters most and can never replace it with artificiality.

Short Story: Two people fall in love and get married. The man is one who is a creator of mechanical objects. Throughout their life, the man continued to create and build. But, most everything in the world was all mechanical. He threw out everything living, mostly the flowers. (roses) The woman became depressed of all of the doing. When she came home, she found a mechanical flower that had replaced the rose. She ran and tried to get the last rose. The dust intoxicated her then she got sick, she died. The man became depressed and destroyed everything. Towards the in, he made a new wife. A mechanical wife. Invention of Love ~ sorry it was so long.

MERCI

Beautiful. Love is real, every part of it & no matter how hard people try, you can create that or sculpt or invent it, it just appears, more alive & real than ever. You cannot replace the things in life that are the most alive & that have the most meaning.

It' s so sad, but so beautiful. The gentleman looks like the man who I love! His sweet silhouette...That 's the reason why I love so much this short film.🌹

This short still stands out among many - so good. My grandfather used to make all number of stories for years that were all paper cut-out by hand where the action was all in silhouettes telling the story. Cool to see your work man - you have some serious talent - Wow. excellent. - all the Best.
