  • Factory Porsche racer Patrick Long has a million-dollar historic 911 3.0 Carrera RSR from 1975 to pedal, less than half the horsepower of the fastest cars in the class, and uses every ounce of talent and racecraft he owns in a classic duel between overdogs and an underdog at Monterey.

Im so surprised how hard they race each other, considering what they're driving! Amazing to see, and Patrick Long is such a fearless beast. Damn.

He is back to the throttle so early on exit. Phenomenal.

Are you watching this video or a different one? Because here Pat is early on the brakes and lazy on the throttle..

I was leaning back and forth in my seat. True artistry behind the wheel. Patrick Long is great. I really admire him for being the only American Porsche Factory Driver. See you, hopefully, at Rennsport V in September at Mazda Raceway.

I think the white "2.8" must have another 50hp on Patrick Long's 3.0 car. It sails off into the distance every time they come to a straight.

Arthur Gourlaouen Good point, but then go look at Leh Keen and watch how aggressively he drives a 1974 911 RSR around the track. I don't think a good racecar driver thinks about avoiding damage to the car. I think they focus on driving the car to its full potential, and making the most of its abilities. Pat's patience can be attributed to his driving style, not so much the car he is driving, in my opinion. Then again, maybe we should ask him.

Amazing driving, I bet he enjoyed that. Good weather, great cars, enough room for some nice driving and enough traffic to get in some nice duels. Laguna Seca is a cool circuit.

I'm surprised Long had such a tough time passing the #48 2.8 lt Porsche Carrera. The 3.0 RSR is a much more capable race car. It sounds like gearing might have been the problem, 4th being too long and 5th hardly used. Not much he could do against a well driven 935. Fun ride!

it's not often that I can watch a Porsche racing video and not yell at the driver for making inefficient use of his car. Pat Long did great, the driver of the yellow 935 was a joke. Pat Long is worthy as an American Factory Porsche driver, but there's another. Tyler Palmer from Oceanside , California has got it all. Speed, race craft, looks, maketability, attitude. He's a winner in every category. Porsche should take notice.

I do find it a little errr how can you put it thuggish that a pro driver in a historic race is ragging a car like this against the limiter numerous times! Just seems inappropriate!
