Change your last name? Oh please!
They did that in the 30s & 40s when Italians were discriminated against.
Not now. They prooved themself as a nationality & wala, the discrimination went away.

There can’t be anyone who actually cares about actors names, I think we’re looking too deep into shit like that lol

You mind find it weird but they do actually they care about name, image, who you connected to, your resumè, & if you willing to go topless or act out a sexual scene even some actors literally had to perform sexually for real in some movies plus now it’s coming out some actors didn’t even get paid the right amount from some shows that made millions

Not true. Think of the casting director about to cast a part. As soon as he/she sees the name Esposito, they may think, 'Nah, too dark, too Italian looking.'
Edie Falco thought she had ZERO chance at getting the part of Carmella because she didn't think she looked Italian at all.

What kind of horrible place is Hollywood when you can’t use your last name, it has nothing to do with ability. Doesn’t make any sense at all. She should have jumped all over that role regardless, but it’s easy to say now, not easy at all back then when it comes to pilots, especially given how little HBO pays. The payday only comes when the shows a hit, and that’s if you’re s major player on the show.

Lol no it doesn't, imagine being so delusional. The show even deals with this topic in the Columbus episode and with Melfi's (ex)husband. Clearly you didn't understand the show.

I’m sorry, but that’s false. How about the Cusamano's, Charmaine Bucco, a lot of the FBI (Agent Skip Li(s)pari, Agent Sanseverino, Agent Grasso, Agent Ciccerone, and even the local FBI Director), Jackie Jr.’s sister, Melfi, Dr. Lapenna (Melfi’s ex-husband), Jason (Melfi’s son), Victor Musto, etc. Artie too 99% of the time.
I’m not even trying to be argumentative or condescending, I just think you’re wrong. What group exactly did the Sopranos portray positively? There was the episode about the Black pastor in bed with Tony using his influence on his people to extort Massarone. They did an episode about how Hesh took advantage of young Black musicians and got them to sign predatory contracts. Does that make the show anti-Black or anti-Jewish? There’s more examples, but I don’t think they’re important. Very few people in general were characterized positively in the Sopranos.

@@imagine9265 The show is a critique of American society as a whole and about how vicious it’s become. Showing that through the mob, which became a significant part of American culture and history, made it more entertaining. The show is about the mob.. what do you expect? David Chase has even said the main goal wasn’t to be realistic, so I don’t see your point about where you're from. You’re not wrong, I’m not from the NYC metro area, but I have lived there. Still though, I’m not claiming to be an expert at all nor am I claiming the show is realistic. I’m just arguing the show isn’t “Anti-Italian.” I’m not from NYC or Jersey, but David Chase was born and raised in North Jersey. Before you say he isn’t Italian, his family name was originally DeCesare (his family changed it like many immigrants did). He addressed the same issues you’re raising, as the Italian-Defamation league threw a hissy fit when the Sopranos was on the Air. I even clipped it for you here: streamable.com/av1qyh (full interview: ruclips.net/video/_7jgaAfWS64/видео.html). You’re being way too sensitive, and not only that you’re flat out wrong. You said Carmela was the only character who didn’t want a part of the gangster life, even though there are plenty of Italian American characters who didn’t want anything to do with it. Did you want them to have more screen time just to protect your feelings? If you want to watch stuff like that, stick to sitcoms. I hope you realize the mob was just a vehicle for a broader message. From what you've said, I don't think you've even watched a significant part of the show.
