    "The park is quite close to Amsterdam" Here in the Netherlands we refer to that as on the other side of the country.

    • @jonathanbowers8964
      @jonathanbowers8964 3 года назад +3

      To be fair in the Midwestern US, a 3 hour drive for an amusement park is considered "close" and "I could leave early in the morning and drive back at night". 6 hours is "a bit far, but we could make it a 3-day Weekend trip and get two solid days out of it if we leave work early on Friday and drive back on Monday".

    • @hethedendaegspolygoon
      @hethedendaegspolygoon 2 года назад +1

      That’s a bit extreme, as Dutch people we don’t classify it as close that’s correct but “other side of the country” is like you are in Maastricht and you need to be in Groningen.

      It's really weird how most uk parks are run down by owners that obviously dont put passion into their projects. The only good parks with well thought out descisions seem to be Paultons Parkan, Blackpool pleasure Beach and a few smaller family owned parks.
      I have visited a few uk parks back in 2015 and I wasnt a massive Fan back than. However it feels like it has become much worse

  • @MasterMister79
    @MasterMister79 3 года назад +3

    With onsite accommodation you also get free access to the park during the duration of your stay, it's included in the price. With children a day at Efteling won't be enough, if you sleep offsite, you need to purchase an Efteling ticket for every single day you want to go there. For example, you will be staying onsite for one night, you can enter the park for two days. This is something to consider in my opinion.

    Also good to know for our friends from the UK : Almost everyone speaks English in The Netherlands! Alot of the signs, like the explanations of all the fairytale forest attractions have an English translation. Some of the attractions which feature a narrated element will be in Dutch of course, you can't have it all. Overall it will be an easy and enjoyable experience if you are English so no worries there.

      Don't go to The Efteling for Thrills. The Efteling is a forest with attractions, a park to explore.
      Set your mind into the relax motion and let the park land into you to keep you eyes open en have a open mind.
      The rollercoasters don't walk away... :-)

  • @TravelJack

    This is fantastic! What a great video series with tons of great information.
    Regarding transportation, one thing I've noticed during my trip planning is that if you're taking the train from Amsterdam, you can also stop at 's-Hertogenbosch (also called "Den Bosch") station and transfer to a bus that goes to Efteling on the way to Tilburg. It might save a little time that way.
    The hotels seem expensive at first, but when you take into account that it includes breakfast AND theme park admission (including on arrival and departure days), it's actually quite a bargain! So my one night stay will include 2 days of park admission, plus breakfast. For the second night, I'll save a little money by staying at a hotel back near the train station so I can conveniently leave early the next morning.

    It’s such an amazing theme park! I really recommended going there at least once a year if you live in the Netherlands or close enough to reach it easily. Also I recommend going somewhere in spring or fall. Those are the months where it’s not too hot but also not too cold, and in those months it’s never really that busy in the park especially when you don’t go in the weekend. But it’s also fun to go to the winter Efteling of course because then you also have some extra things that you can enjoy in the park. But you can also go in the summer school break, then the park is often open from 10am till 10pm But I still recommend if you go there and it’s your first time, try not to go in the weekends or holidays, and take 2-3 days :)

    Hi Shawn,
    Great vlog as always, just a little tweak if you're flying at schiphol. If you take the train you have to take a transfer train at station 's-Hertogenbosch to tilburg or take the bus from 's-hertogenbosch.
    From schiphol there are 2 trains per hour that go directly to 's-hertogenbosch station. But you can take any intercity train from Schiphol to Utrecht and transfer there to 's-hertogenbosch if you wanna shave another 15 minutes from your journey if you missed your direct connection.
    In 's-Hertogenbosch you can also take a bus that takes you to the efteling. It's normally about 15 minutes faster, then going to tilburg (and it's a little bit cheaper prisewise).
    Just ask for the efteling bus at the station and you get the line number for the bus. The bus station is directly to the right when you exit the trainstation.
    So my advice is check youre public transport app wich one is faster before leaving schiphol or in the train to Utrecht.
    And now a warning there are a lot of "stoptrains" travelling on the route and they stop at every litlle station along the way don't get in one of those or it wil take a LOOOOONG time. (well not that much longer about an hour if you make the mistake twice 😁)

    • @ThemeParkWorldwide
      @ThemeParkWorldwide  3 года назад

      Thank you for sharing. Like I say I’ve not done that route, however possibly will do on a future trip!

    • @Paul_C

      @@ThemeParkWorldwide Shawn, at present trains departing from Eindhoven run at 6 minutes intervals, 6 are intercity, therefore Den Bosch is hop on, and hop off without any stops. The other 4 are regional lines and stop at 2-4 times before reaching Den Bosch.

    When staying in the Efteling Hotel, you don't hear the roads outside. It is really quiet and the theming is on point! The food there is delicious as well and the service is perfect.
    You can reach the Efteling easier this route if you decide to go to Rotterdam. Instead of taking that bus (which takes a long time) there is a direct train to Tilburg as well. Way easier and faster as well. I have to mention that paying in the busses is only by card or Public Transportation Card. Cash we don't accept anymore in busses due the risk of theft.

    For train travel within The Netherlands you don't need, or even can I suppose, book train tickets in advance. There is just no need. Train service is extremely reliable and frequent. Just show up, buy your ticket at the machine, check which platform you need to go and that's it. Wait time is rarely more than 15-30 minutes. Some exeptions :Trains usually don't run at night so check if you have awkward flight times. International services like Thalys or Eurostar obviously do require reservations.

    I've been thinking just how my semester in Madrid will end being about a week before Zomerfolk, a music festival in Groningen in the north of Holland, possibly using Eindhoven as a base for a day at Toverland and 2 at Efteling, do Wallibi Holland, then spend the remaining nights up at Slagharen (take one day as an off day, possibly do the water park, a day in the park, and then use it as a base for Zomerfolk)

    Also funny you think staying on site at Efteling is cheap, since here in the Netherlands, it's considered to be CRAZY expensive by many.

    I think you forgot to mention that you can enter the park earlier when you are staying at the hotel and Bosrijk etc...Early entrance.
    Also i would not go from Schiphol (Amsterdam) to Tilburg with the train but go to 's-Hertogenbosch and take the bus from there to the Efteling. The problem is, the bustrip is longer. So it is all a matter of what you like..Either be longer in the train to Tilburg and a short bustrip to the Efteling or a shorter train trip and a longer bustrip to the Efteling. Also when you come in the weekends there are direct bus lines from Tilburg, Breda and 's-Hertogenbosch that will not stop anywhere else like Shawn mentioned..However when you are coming during the week when it is not summer or school (holiday) vacation going on in the Netherlands it will take you longer because then there are no direct busses but busses that will go through some villages before arriving at the Efteling..Then the bus from 's-Hertogenbosch is very long imo.
    Also when there is no summer or vacation time going on the best days to visit when it is least busy are the Tuesdays and Wednesdays. However you can be out of luck when there are many class trips with busses full of school trips youth that usually go on Wednesdays. So it depends. The park is huge so it can be alright.
    When you are enjoying this park a lot and be thinking i want to come back more in one year (i can imagine) then it is probably a good thing to buy a annual pass..The great thing about that is you can get free tickets or discounts to other parks in Europe (check the Efteling website for which parks) so it is a win win situation..Now all parks are closed due to Covid-19 so now you can't really do anything but i will leave the dutch link from the official Efteling site so you can see which parks are available once everything returns to normal.

    But the most important thing is enjoy yourself and let your imagination run free and become a child again when you are there..The dutch are very very proud of this park and we (talking about myself) feel like this is the best park in the Benelux (be-Belgium ne- Netherlands- lux-Luxembourg).
    Have fun all!! 😘

    When everything opens up consider this. In the europe roadtrips you didnt go to scandinavia so maybe a scandinavia roadtrip? I live in Denmark and here are some ideas for parks that you can visit (In denmark):
    Legoland
    Fårup Sommerland
    Djurs Sommerland
    Tivoli
    Bakken
    Bonbon-Land

    Another tip that potentially can save you money. Unlike Disneyland where they do security checks, you are totally allowed at Efteling to bring your own food and drinks into the park! So just stop at a supermarket along the way and get your sandwiches cheap, or even a couple of beers! ;-) There are picnick areas specifically intended for this in the park. Obviously eating your own food at a sitting area of a park restaurant is not appreciated.

    Loving the travel guides, lots of great information however you should include a little about language barriers. Travelling from Australia we would love to know whether English is spoken at all the contact areas (transport links) and whether as English speakers we would struggle with language barriers within the parks and attractions.Also would be great to know the prices of accommodation offerings, ie how they relate to Disney style resorts (value, moderate or deluxe) and show them on a map and the proximity to the park.

    • @DangerHuub

      If you fly to Amsterdam Schiphol it's also more convenient to take a train to Den Bosch, and take a bus to Tilburg via Efteling (which is the same bus you would take from Tilburg trainstation but the other way obviously) from there. Otherwise you'd have to change trains in Den Bosch to Tilburg, and take the bus from Tilburg to Efteling which would take way more time :)

      When you drive yourself it will take you around one and a half hours, when you take public transit it will be a lot longer, since Walibi is not in close proximity to cities. You need to travel to Harderwijk at first and take the Walibi Express bus there. That would be around two and a half hours from the Efteling, walibi Express not included. I would recommend you to check 9292.nl. On this website you can check the public transit in the Netherlands.

    i’ve recently seen an advert for the company Coaster Breaks, curious to hear your thoughts and to see if this is something to consider in the future. This company organises trips across europe for you and a group of people to go to theme parks as a collective. There is a set price which covers travel and accommodation, the tickets to the parks, and a 24/7 travel guide.
