Traveling To Disney’s Aulani in Hawaii: AMA AMA Reopens!

  • Come with us as we travel back to Oahu Hawaii to stay at Disney's Aulani resort and spa, but before we get there we make a few stops along the way, including trying the best Manapuas on the island and an Aulani hack you're not going to want to miss. And AMA AMA, the resorts signature restaurant has recently reopened, so we are going to try it for the first time ever. It has a new $125 four course fine dining menu -- is it worth that price tag or is it too gourmet for us?

Aw, I’m so sorry about missing your mom Kitra. Losing family members is really hard. Those moments like you had at dinner are so special because with these people gone, these are some of the only ways we have left to feel them and feel connected to them. I’m glad you were able to feel touched by your mom on your trip. Thanks for sharing :)

I grew up on Oahu. Zippy's is a major local restaurant chain frequented by locals. They are best known for their chili and plate lunches. You may also want to visit L&L Hawaiian BBQ. Their chicken katsu and macaroni salad is pretty good.

Ama Ama looks amazing! I went a few times prior to the update and it looks much more amazing.
When my husband and I were there in 2021 we stopped by makihiki for breakfast during our stay. We sat in the patio and after we got our drinks we were just talking and enjoying the atmosphere. Suddenly there was a child screaming, then a lady. The cast members quickly gathered, then the manager. Tables were quickly moved but the child kept crying. Turns out the kid and lady witnessed a mongoose attacking, killing, and attempting to get away with a pigeon 😂

Wow, I admire you, Kitra, for trying the octopus. (When I heard, “It tastes like chicken…” I almost did a spit take😂) I think it's because of how it was prepared that you gave it such a high rating, but normally octopus is plain and extremely chewy, and i NEVER eat it at gatherings because I know it's expensive and there are family members who love it and can appreciate eating it. Thanks for bringing us along to your fancy dinner!

We ate at Ama Ama mid October and thought it was great. The food quality, and service was excellent. The wine pairing price was reasonable and the server explained each wine. That ube old fashion was a definite five stars. As far as the price, it is not cheap but for the resort area it is equivalent to the Four Seasons prices next door. We had dinner at Mina’s Fish House next door and spent about the same amount but was less impressive than Ama Ama. We really enjoyed this video and your willingness to try things outside your comfort zone. Thank you.

I first subscribed to your channel when I found your vlogs about your first Aulani trip. We just came back from our second trip with our family and put your previous pro-tips to use and had a great trip. Would have loved to have run into you both. We went to AMA AMA and took our 6 year old granddaughter-highlight of the night was her licking her bowl of tomato soup. 100% agree with your thoughts, the staff, service, and setting were outstanding but not sure the end result justifies the price. The food was delicious, but pretty bougie and TBH I was still hungry when we left. Thanks for all your videos, love your humor and sincerity.

Thanks, glad you agree! What other cool things did you find in Oahu on your trip?

@@OrdinaryAdventures At the Dole plantation there is a jewelry counter where you can pick an oyster and they harvest the Pearl and then set them to a ring or necklace-one of them had two so it was like a freebie. We visited Pali lookout for amazing views and to learn some history. We went to Haleiwa Joe’s in Kaneohe for an terrific meal (wedge salad and prime rib), it’s an open air restaurant in a beautiful garden setting at the foot of a green mountain (we’re from Indiana so anything bigger than a mound amazes us). A little embarrassed to admit we went to a movie while we were there, but it was for Wakanda Forever so felt it was justified. The Regal theater at Kapolei commons (where you went to Target) was really nice. We also ate at Mina’s Fish House next door at the Four Seasons. It was pricey, too, but the portions were a little more “normal” and we left very satisfied. Also did zip lining at Kualoa Ranch (did the ATV tour last time), and snorkeling with Ocean Joy Cruises. Still feel like there is so much more to do and see on Oahu!

Glad you guys are back in Hawaii! You get to show us things that most of us will not be able to see or do so it's much appreciated and congrats on 300k subs! 👏
By the way, macadamia nuts are actually native to Australia not to Hawaii. There was a time there that Hawaii was the highest producer of them but it always changes due to weather conditions. Only a few years ago Australia was the highest producer of them at 46% but because the last few years we've had way too many natural disasters like the 2019 Black Summer bush fires to the floods taking over the last two years (currently many towns in NSW are cleaning up from flash flooding two days ago) we haven't been able to grow as much so South Africa funnily enough is the world's largest macadamia nut producer now. Aus is at about 20% and S Africa at 40%. They grow well in subtropical climates.
Macadamia nuts were introduced to Hawaii in the 1880's for the bush to protect sugarcane as a windbreak! And when they were first found here in Australia in 1828 by English settlers, macadamias were originally called the 'Bauple Nut' after the town of Bauple in Queensland by the founder. They were then renamed as macadamia after a German-Australian botanist named them as such after his friend John Macadam, who was a noted scientist and was secretary of the Philosophical Institute of Australia in 1858.
And before the English naming of them they have over a dozen different names in the Indigenous Australian community and have always been a popular 'bush tucker' or bush food source.
