    If you want to downpick Eye Of The Beholder you must play with 240bpm. In my last video you can see a Slipknot's song Eeyore which is played with 250bpm and imo this is the fastest speed for a human hand. Next is a HOSPITAL ;/

    I think blackened might be the most difficult hetfield riff, especially down picking each note

    • @szablo
      @szablo  7 лет назад +15

      Yes, it's the hardest downpicking riff of all times :) hehe

    • @axelchauvin1282

      I think actually that Jason newsted wrote this riff

    • @maxlu9373
      @maxlu9373 7 лет назад +27

      Yeah it's a Jason riff and they polished up a bit. Apparently before they made the changes it was even harder to play

      @fuaaajaosfhj21 7 лет назад

      Max Lu I just listened to the interview with Jason where he talks about that, insane, I had no idea and Im a die hard fan!

      @@maxlu9373 I think he played:
      A|-7--7--7-8-7--7--7--7--7--7--7-8-7-1----2-3-3--
      E|0--0--0-------0--0--6--0--0--0-----------2-3--------1

      D|-------------------------6----------------------3--------------
      A|-7--7--7-8-7--7--7--7--7--7--7-8-7-1----2-3-3--

      tbf sounds a lot better when you downpick it

    • @BigRedMate
      @BigRedMate 7 лет назад +41

      In the recording on the album you can hear the pick scrape of the up stroke on the intro riff, so I think they did use alternate picking on the original recording. Though back in the late 80s/early 90s they played it live with down-picking.

    • @murillostank
      @murillostank 7 лет назад +29

      its obviously alternate picking. downpicking it is not only wrong, but also extremely uncomfortable.

    • @BigRedMate
      @BigRedMate 7 лет назад +17

      Murillo Stankevicius Metallica used to play it live with down picking, so it’s not ‘wrong’. But if you want to play it like the recording you would play it with alternate picking.

    • @ivanafeelcool9143
      @ivanafeelcool9143 7 лет назад +7

      He does when they play it live? Uhhh I could be wrong but they haven't played it since '89 with the exception that they teased it last year. And he has always played it with alternate picking, I haven't found anything that proves your statement.

    Funny how in the video where you played MetallicA's heaviest songs, I complained about Eye of the Beholder not being on the list. Then you said, "Look at my new video", or something like that. Anyways now that I have seen Eye of the Beholder, I am satisfied.

    when playing master of puppets full speed it gets so tiring once you've done the whole intro and verse downpicked then after finally getting a rest in the chorus I feel supercharged in the second verse lol

      actually Blackened is way more harder to downpick

    • @musicplaylists59
      @musicplaylists59 7 лет назад +9

      the thing with master of puppets though is just the endurance for playing the whole intro and first verse of constant fast downstrokes, its a longer stretch of non stop downstrokes although the riffs in Blackened might be harder to play themselves

    • @JanneSiimesvaara
      @JanneSiimesvaara 7 лет назад +3

      It's because someone opened up the mogg multitrack version of it in a program that doesn't read mogg correctly and therefore pans all tracks to the sides in alternating fashion (Bass drum is track one and as such goes to the left, snare is track two and goes the right etc.) and then that converted version started circulating around the web. If you were to track down the mogg file and opened it in a program that supports that - even Audacity can do it - then you'd get to do the panning yourself.

    I find why James is a beast in down picking...
    Because he is drummer!
    I started drums near 5 months ago and therefore l share my time between drums and guitar
    But my downpicking became crazy fast! I can't believe it!!! Lolo
    While i dont play metal often! Anyway, the drum has greatly increased the power and speed of my wrists.
    specially playing of double storks (unfortunately it's more difficult than downpicking!!)
    You can buy pad drum and drumstick for exercising snare drum, in fact you don't need drum kit (and can't play it now ) you must exercise the techniques of snare drum for at least 2, 3 months.

      Comparing these songs to The End Of The Line, for example of course, is like comparing Nissan GTR to the Formula 1 :) Haha and I don't even come with My Apocalypse or That Was Just Your Life which are very fast alternate picking songs, too ;/ It is easy to check the bpm with a timer :)

    The first four horsemen riff that you played is definitely played with alternate picking plus I’m like 90% you were playing it wrong too, if you listen to the studio version at like the 2:20 mark you can hear the alternate picking

    i thought i would ask u here cause ive been struggling to play that part of blackened where the riff starts,more spesifically the part that starts with a power chord on the A string first fret and then goes in an ascending and then descending pattern,and i figured i would ask u on this video because i did remember that u played it very nicely so can u give me any tips? downpicking or alternate,or something else? i know what notes to play right there but thats all i know,other than me not being able to play it

    • @szablo
      @szablo  6 лет назад +1

      more spesifically the part that starts with a power chord on the A string first fret and then goes... E: 0-2-3-110. There is some gallop (110) but Blackened is a downpicking song \m/ NOW IT IS TIME FOR A GALLOP new vid coming soon

    No way eye of the beholder is downpicked man. And the four horsemen is definitely not played like that. Can't you hear the "galloping"? You're slightly off time on struggle within and I'm not sure that's the correct way to play blackened intro (I mean the last notes). Sorry, but I get really picky when it comes to metallica and wearing the guitar as low as Hetfield doesn't make you as good as him. And it's bad for your back ahah. Criticism aside, great tone and great idea for a video. Just try to be more precise next time

    • @szablo
      @szablo  7 лет назад +4

      Well :) Eye of the bedholder, the four horsemen and blackened are special versions taken from Metallica's medleys. They downpicked Eye and Horsemen many times. There are also 2 versions of last notes in the blackened's intro :) LIVE and STUDIO and I have raised up my guitar a lot recording these video, because I like to move with my guitar when it's low but a camera doesn't like it very much. Thanks for about 100 words xD and I give you a thumb up + red heart to be precise.

      Practice :) hehe
      Downpicking is difficult when you play fast, what can be hard in Am I evil first part ? XD
      You must play loud concerts in your room to the metallica bootlegs and put your amp against your head ( like you never did before xP) like a monitor-speaker. Only then you hear the CHUG you make on your guitar and you must try to build with your right hand the sharpest sound you can get, something like that ;]
