@@Margaret-ud6qb How are we "doomed" after 14 years of heavy austerity lol.

God help your spelling skills.
Heavy austerity ? Apart from the 8 to 15 million pounds spent a DAY ,(figures vary) on the immigrants. 🤔
What baffles me is that some people are still crying out "Labour will make it much worse" after Brexit, Partygate, Liz Trus torpedoing the economy, NHS on the brink, different faces every given week and Britian being in the worst state in anyone's lifetime. How possibly can it get much worse honestly? besides a nuclear disaster or Tsunami. 14 years in power and the country is in much worse state than when they first took office in 2010, and if anyone disputes that they're just crazy and there's no hope is there. Can anyone name one single thing that went right in the conservatives 14years in office? I can't think of any
well, it will certainly be a challenge for labour 😂
Labour are as bad as Conservatives simple as that look at history.
Nothing went right in the Tory party
At least snp are finally gone too 😊
@@FiniteRich It would be a challenge for any new administration. Getting the country out of the ditch the previous leadership drove it into is difficult.
The problem with UK is, rich getting richer and poor getting poorer.

Minimum wage is not on the level of living wage
@ary6039 yeah. Conservative basically worked against the people to line the pockets of the big business donating to them. And the very same companies also donate to labour. So the same folks are in charge regardless who wins. And the 'opposition' won't oppose 😅
That’s the problem the world over. His words are very strong. I hope he sticks to his word.

40% of England didn't bother to vote let that sink in..
Yes, that 40% is in no position to complain about anything going forward. They didn't exercise their right to vote and will have to live with the consequences of their inaction.
England??
Let it sink in that people don't trust either side.
Not everyone was able to vote due to the mess that they made of it. People abroad have had great problems with the system, voting by proxy was poorly organised for many people. …….!

I'm not a massive fan of Starmer I must admit, preferred Corbyn, but...after 14 years of Tory rule, I welcome him. A lot of damage has been done, he has a hell of a job in front of him.
And he will make it much, much worse. What a tragedy!
It's all by design. Keep your eyes on the road. Remember all the people who didn't vote are waking up to this farce. Politicians don't run the country.
I'm no fan of Corbyn or Starmer but I'm glad there is a steady hand on the tiller
@@kelrogers8480 Feel free to give me an example how it can get much worse, or for that fact more embarrassing, than it already is...
@@kelrogers8480 Agreed. UK is £2.7 trillion in debt. People still believe their tax pays for services. Makes me laugh. It's all fake money, they let it flow then they stop it. I could've won this election as Labour leader
Forgot your meds AGAIN?!
If it just a case of imploding Tories then why did infighting over Brexit not give Corbyn a majority in 2019?
@@stevedavidson666 he's right
If he had run a leftist campaign he would’ve lost. So no, not everyone could’ve won.
@@charleschin6497 He's not. If they'd have stuck to the left a la Corbyn, Tory voters wouldn't have splintered out of fear of a hard left government. Starmer wisely tacked to the centre and let the Tories screw themselves over.
This is how to do elections, fast and done. Here in the US our campaign season lasts years. Then President hangs on for couple of months before leaving. Well done

I have read their manifesto, and will be watching to see if they deliver, especially building new rental housing, that so many parties have promised to do and failed miserably, only building houses for purchase.
The new housing will be designated for the immigrants, currently in hotels.

The current Tory Government was so hated that there was a huge push for tactical voting. In constituencies where Libdems were 1st or 2nd, labour voters switched just to get rid of the Tories. Reform party were not challenged enough, probably because they split the tory vote. Very tactical election..
It’s true, at least that is what has happened in my place.
Big words. Let's hope he lives up to them, and hild him to account if he doesn't.
I wasn't expecting it, but I found this quite emotional to watch.
The end of an awful era, and now the hard work to rebuild begins.
Totally agree, it's been too long coming.
Such a great sense of relief this weekend that the Tories are finally gone!
I kinda agree with nigel. I reckon most aren't bothered about him. They just didn't want to vote Conservative 😂
great first speech...returning politics to Public Service!!! that's what we all want.. MPs as public servants helping us not helping themselves...it was brilliant. it was humble it was respectful. perfect
If that's a great speech- hes for a problem.
All the best to the UK and Keir Starmer, certainly a very serious and decent person. Looking forward to see the economy and living standard of the UK people going back to what it used to be.
Last time there were 15 millions less people so don't hold your breath
34% of the 60% that bothered to vote is not a very convincing mandate.
What other mandate is there?
It is a clear majority though, and we could presume those that did not vote might have fit the trend of those that did turn up.
After 14 years of the same party dividing us, stoking political fires and behaving unprofessionally its good to let another party take the lead. We have not had a fresh perspective for so long, and clearly the vast majority were sick of the conservative norms.
And the Tory mandate was much better was it?
Im not sure how this voting system works to be honest, the actual number of individual votes in comparison to the number of seats gained is disgusting. This need to change and the result is a joke.
Either make voting mandatory or vote for a party that will enable PR or AV etc
@@sheikyabuti5315You cannot mandate voting because I'd just spoil my ballot. We so badly need PR I agree on that.
The voting system is a scam. Pure illusion to appease the masses and benefit the 2 top parties. We need proportional representation! 🇬🇧
Dam that all happened fast
Every time I've seen anything from the Tories anywhere near downing streets all I've been able to hear is the protesting for as long as I can remember, now the protestor is one guy shouting Reform being drowned out by cheers for a Labour PM, it does feel pretty good after 14 years of Scroogenomics.
Thanks for posting
This is like celebrating winning a boxing match because tour opponent got disqualified
Please listen to the difference in respect and sensibility in the way that the UK hands over power vs how America does it (or throws a hissy fit)
To be fair, Jan 6th wasn't a typical event and the US is a very different country with a different system and a different history. I think sometimes, because we share a language, we're less aware of how different it is there. Political discourse has become coarser in this country too. Both Sir Kier's and Rishi's speeches were a refreshing change though.
Is this live now
Actions, not words. He's right. Still, I think this was an excellent short speech. A message of hope. And change. Great work Sir Keir & all of Britain 👍
whoever made those flags should be ashamed, on one side the welsh dragon is facing the correct way, but on the other side it's the wrong way, symbolically, this means that the Welsh is in retreat

Man's been in 5 minutes and they're like 'yeah lets seen in a month what he can do'. I am so over the UK media. I don't agree with a lot of things he's done, but I do think time will tell, and it won't be a month or so, it will be years. The media are like a pack of wolves. They've got a lot to answer for. Narcissism is rife.
Theyre not a UK media really though.?Theyre virtually all just mouthpieces for their Tory supporting mega rich owners. No surprise from that shower.

He knows that part of his success was the protest vote to get the Tories out. He and his team have some work ahead of them.
All of his success is protesting the Tories, after a total disaster from the Tories post 2019 labour only got a 2% increase in vote share and that was with massive amounts of tactical voting
His team and the masters pulling the strings behind ARE the problem. He is just a puppet!
They must deliver to fend off the hard right
