It shouldn't be this refreshing to hear an MP speak who actually sounds like an actual, normal human. 😂
She very poor diction. Why is that refreshing?
@@fts4608 I don't mean her voice or delivery I mean the content of what she's saying
@@fts4608 Because, in part, democracy can only be true if the ones that govern are comprised of people of different backgrounds, cultures, knowledge and experiences. But someone with such a skewed opinion as yours I have to assume lacks this basic, common understanding. And for the record .... your grammar is bloody *_shocking !_* I suggest you either edit your comment (at worst) ....or delete it altogether (at best) !
@@goonaa6924 You, my friend need 10 thumbs up. 😂😂😂
Middle-aged, white male, here. Although Florence Eshalomi is not my constituency MP, I feel she represents me and this nation better than any old Etonian MP has ever done in my lifetime. And though I'm not a fan of the whole Labour manifesto, I feel more optimistic than I have for a long time.
What a great choice to second the Loyal Address. Every sign that she's a great MP for her local constituents.
Lovely Speech, thanks for representing Nigerians positively. Loved the humour all through
Well said and spoken. Amazing lady, humble and respectful.
White, English, middle-class (Labour-supporting) male here: what a fantastic communicator this woman is.
Big fan of Nigerians (British or otherwise), glad you have such a fantastic advocate representing you in the Mother of Parliaments. 😊
@@TPRM1you therefore agree that Nigerian jollof is the best jollof 🎉
Idk, I didn't like that. I mean we're either Brits or we're not
How is she representing Nigerians ?
I am overjoyed to hear a genuine story from a genuine voice echo in the House of Commons. I also remember how it felt when my family were given keys and we could leave the temporary bnb. I am now a professor at a university in Germany. Being on the dole is no way for a child to grow up. Experiences on such council estates, I'd wish them on no one. And whilst yes, they made us stronger, it's unfair that some of us, like this MP, are so harshly tried and tested at such an early age. I congratulate this wonderful human on her journey to becoming an MP.
Getting rid of entitled rich assholes who used division to steal our wealth and bringing in amazing caring people who reflect the country has been so wonderful. This lady is exactly what we needed to see after 14 years of tories.
Wonderfully balanced, eloquent and intelligent speech. All the very best for your career as a politician.
Florence Eshalomi, That was a SUPERLATIVE speech!
You'll Never Walk Alone
Your statement doesn’t make grammatical sense
These great black women should go back to Africa and improve their own country. Instead of lecturing Britain
Im not sure the word superlative means what you think it does
@@georgio3753 I think they're trying to be "punny"
I remember when Diane Abbot was the only black face you ever saw in politics. In my short life of 30 years it’s incredible to see such change.
Incredible speech. Respectful, witty and profound.
Diversity for diversity's sake seems silly. Merit should be the only thing to consider imo
@@keifer7813 But a lack of diversity is often a sign of merit being ignored. After all, talented and hard-working people exist in all races. It would be silly to have a preference for only white people in parliament, so I too am glad we see more skilled and passionate people of all races participating in our democracy.
@@TorrentCompanyBlues Not necessarily. The country is circa 80% white. So if 80% of MPs were white, it wouldn't mean merit is being ignored. It's just reflective of the population.
@@keifer7813The problem with people that reason like you is that you categorise every black person as being a box ticker even when they've done the necessary work and have the competency to be in the position they're in.
It's often the case with whts like yourself and a major reason why many BP know they have to work twice as hard to receive half the respect.
funny how you wouldn’t say this is there were too many white men, not withstanding the fact that as you pointed out circa 80% of the country is white but rather you wouldn’t say “i hope they’re not just picking men, merit needs to be considered” but you’d say that when more female mps get elected even though the majority of the population is female
What a breath of fresh air !! eloquent, humorous, intelligent, and respectful, such a change from the last 14 years of division and self interest. Hope that this is a portent for this Parliament
If this is the calibre of MPs we can expect from this new Labour government, well then, we’re in good hands. 😊
I do So as a 70yr old Brit recommend this Woman to this Nation,
We need fine ladies like her in politics ❤❤❤
A great nation! ❤
First class speech from a true constituency politician! From B&B with black bags to the Loyal Address - wisdom and hopefulness bound up with a dose of humour that has been long overdue in politics!
What an incredible speech, and a beautiful welcome to our new Mother (and Aunty) of the House. Well deserved, I hope Diane Abbott is aware of the impact she has had and continues to have, on black women (and others) throughout every sector.
Please let this woman be exactly what she appears, representative of the Labour Party today, and not alone! Brilliant speech, just the right amount of respect and her humour seemed well received. (Well, mostly. Rishi can dish it out, but he has trouble choking it down when it's being dished to him.) So good to see some heartfelt love going out to Diane Abbot, after all the years of all the abuse. Much of which I can remember reading in my parent's 'newspapers'. I can begin to understand why she's prepared to keep sticking it out now.
Sounds like a great constituency MP.
Her description of meeting the families of victims of violent crime was powerful indeed.
So pleased that she acknowledged Diane Abbott as mother of the house, and parliamentary pioneer.
Yes 🥰
Diane Abbott is the worst politician
This speech alone, gives me great hope for the future, after all the toxicity, something truly positive and uplifting.
Are you kiddin
Congratulations on a magnificent speech. You do your party and your Country proud ❤
Most mps are completely out of touch and they haven’t a clue about the regular , working class people .What a breathe of fresh air!
Formidable MP who happens to be a black female. Wishing her all the success!😊
As a Nigerian Londoner, this is the best thing I’ve ever heard out of those parliamentary walls. I loved this!🫶🏽
A great speech and a great spirit
Real substance from a real black woman. Take note Kemi!
EXACTLY!!
Kemi has totally forgotten herself.
🤌🏽
Utter cobblers - knife crime at all time high in London under Labour Mayor Khan 🤦♂️
What do you mean ‘real’ black women sounds like you’re suggesting you have to act and think a certain way way to be considered black, that sounds racist to me
Hopefully this lady is the future of UK politics.

A proper speech by a proper full time constituency politician, not one of the part timers/‘non-voting directors/‘advisors’/‘columnist’/‘junket abroad’ types.
Rising star. Maybe she'll be Prime Minister one day?
She's a catholic so highly unlikely, although not impossible I'm told

She has risen because she is in Britain.
In Nigeria she would have been nothing a nobody

Stop lecturing in Britain.

I am delighted to see this cross section of races in the British Parliament. Beautiful!
Intelligent, articulate, compassionate and committed - everything you want in an MP.😊
This speech embodies what an MP should be about she wants to represent her constituency and her constituents she stood to serve not to inflate her ego or wallet.
Such a classy and eloquently spoken lady.
Superb what a really great speech -well done.
Wow. What a brilliant speech.
That warmed this old Heart of mine, and I wish her and the country of My birth good fortune in the future.
I was pleased to see the members of the Tory party enjoyed her speech as much as I did.
So, From Australia, I send my best wishes to you all.
Wow a proper MP who knows what being an MP is about. Maybe there is hope for us yet.
She is so great. She should really go back to Nigeria and improve her own country where she belongs instead of lecturing Britain
Really proud moment for humanity!
This speech is a snpshot from an aspirational community that is more beloved because of the substance and style and caring way in which it was presented.
Thank you for this dose of encouragement and warmth.
WOW I'm watching this from Ireland and that was STUNNING, bravo Florence 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What a fluent master English speaker, with not a single word stumbled or fumbled over 👀. Not a shake in her voice 👀, or any continuous pauses that would make her sound like she's reading a children's book. 👀
When I grow up I want to be just like her. 👀
So do i. At 72 i still have time. Lol.
That was truly beautiful and I'm so very pleased that the usual suspects aren't in the comments. This is what this country needs now. Forward movement, wholesome behavior. Eyes on the reall issues and care for the real needs of our country. Finally ❤
What an upgrade from Kate Hoey! 😂 She's brilliant. Sparky. Get her on the front bench!

My God, what a great speech! No nastiness, no backbiting. This deserves to be put up as how you DO make a speech that will get people's attention. All power to her!
Oh my what a speech. I too was born in a council house, and it brought a tear to my eye.
Fantastic speech, a balance of humour, humility and honesty.❤
Excellent speech, she is the kind of MP we all deserve. Bravo!
Taunting your opponents does not make a great speech.
Colourful pink sit down
Great speech! loved all the smiles and nods around her as well
I`ve only voted Labour once in my 51 years and it was in 2019 when I was living in Stockwell. If only more MPs were as focussed upon constituency issues as Florence Eshalomi; if only more MPs spoke from the heart with the honesty and candour with which Ms Eshalomi speaks. I no longer live in her constituency and so it`s unlikely I`ll ever vote Labour again (I`m from a working class background and so I`ll look for me a party that prioritises the advancement of Working-Class people and puts an end to poverty front and centre - such parties are a bit thin on the ground, I know). But congratulations to Florence on this wonderful speech. I hope more people wake up to what politicians can be.
Thanks for speaking up for Nigeria jollof rice

We went to the same college and I remember her. Lovely person and always very confident ❤
It was an absolute joy to listen to a speech that seemed to engage both sides of the house, I can’t actually remember when I’ve seen parliament so quiet and attentive whilst someone was talking. Sincere when she was speaking about those who were a victim of crime, and gave off a genuine sense of caring instead spewed words to mislead the constituents. I hope she grows into this role, I can see her being both passionately effective and yet loved by those she serves. Can’t say that about Rishi I’m afraid…
Gorgeous, brilliant and humorous
A great speech showing the lady's real humanitarian appreciation of the challenges facing our country, with a very personal account of what it means to conquer adversity punctuated by a sense of humor.
Just Brilliant!
Thank you FLORENCE for your representation.

What a wonderful lady & such a well delivered speech.
Love last part of her speech when she salutes Diana abbot'
Nice to see, on the face of it, an almost equal female:male ratio on the benches here. Labour aren’t quite split half and half between the genders, but are close, as are the Lib Dems; the Tories are a bit behind the times with under a quarter of their seats represented by women. We have the most diverse Parliament ever - 89 ethnic minority MPs out of the total 650 - and nearly 2/3 of the Commons had a comprehensive rather than a private education. Still room for improvement, but we’re getting there.
There’s a lot of work to be done and undoubtedly tough times ahead but at least we can’t fairly accuse Parliament any longer of being unrepresentative. This is something to be pleased about and maybe even a little bit proud of.
Beautiful address, just short and concise
