Great video. 72 years young, been riding over 50 years with time out for career and marriage inbetween. Marylander now, but began in CA riding with no helmet and tshirt up/down PCH for years. The Big Guy up there has been kind to me. Retired now, still riding my '79 XS1100 and dual sport DR. I'd asked for a video on gear and you've done a great job. Time to supplement my 30-year old Joe Rocket leather jacket with some updated gear. Thanks for the recommendations....Paul

That sure is a great leather jacket. Wait until it's 30 years old. I found that mine shrunk.!!! Happens to most of us. Of course, most of my shirts shrunk also, and don't get me started on the pants issue. Lol. 👍👍

I've always been a full face helmet guy riding offroad and sportbikes. I've since switched to riding and FJR1300 and on longer rides I can really see the benefits of having a modular helmet. Just being able to scratch your nose or take a drink on a long ride would be worth it. There are workarounds for the full face, but my next helmet will be a modular.

Some good points, but you didn't mention an armored jacket/vest under your gear, this makes a leather jacket all the way to mesh gear, safer.
One other issue is, you said (12:42) if you wear full protected race pants, "You'll look look like a tool", SERIOUSLY??? You should be encouraging people to use the best/most protection they can, not being an A$$ criticizing how uncool, or "A tool" , you'll be for choosing the top protection option. I wear race pants year round (and I'm in Arizona), I've crashed in them going 60MPH, and walked away without a scratch, just roadrashed pants. I guess I'm going to have to accept, I look like a "TOOL", sad.

Half helmets cause deaths by rotating backwards in a crash and severing the spinal cord just below the base of the skull. That's why 3/4 helmets were invented. Good call by NOT recommending half helmets.
