Candido Camero celebrates his 91st Birthday

Conguero, Candido Camero celebrates his 91st Birthday at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola in NYC. Bobby Sanabria led the Manhattan School of Music Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra for two sets celebrating this NEA Jazz Master who was a pioneer in bringing Afro Cuban percussion to the world stage.

This is so amazing. I am completely dazzled. What an extraordinary man Candido is, one of the greatest conguero in the Afro Cuban genre ever. And needless to say the the fantastic Bobby Sanabria students orchestra for a backing? Out of sight !!
The Lord has Blessed Candido immensely, to be able to celebrated 91 years doing what he passionately loves is and should be an inspiration to many musicians... Feliz Cumpleaños Maestro...

Candido Camero...leyenda viviente de la música latina...uno de los primeros en ponerle el toque latino al jazz...el hombre de los 1000 dedos...y aún a esa edad sigue demostrando por qué le llaman manos de fuego con la misma pasión y energía, cuando ya todos los músicos de su generación o se han marchado o se encuentran retirados. He celebrated his 99th birthday yesterday Wednesday April 22, 2020: Cándido Camero (born April 22, 1921), also known simply as Cándido, is a Cuban conga and bongo player. He also plays the tres, drums, and acoustic bass. He has worked in many genres of popular music from pop, rock, R&B and disco to Afro-Cuban dance music and Latin jazz. He is the first player to develop techniques to play multiple conga drums, coordinated independence and the use of multiple percussion, one player playing a variety of percussion instruments simultaneously. UPDATE: Candido Camero died on 7 November 2020, at his home in New York. He was 99 and close to 7 months old.
