    Another thing about the Europarties is that they also have observant members, which are political parties from non-Eu countries but are involved in their policies.
    Ex. The rulling party in Ulraine, the National Servant is an observant member of the RE group. Meanwhile, the rulling party in Moldova, PAS, is an observant in the EPP.
    Suprisingly enough tho, another country that also includes observant parties, is Israel.

      @Edmuresrampantmanhood-dp3jd 6 месяцев назад

      @@IkeOkerekeNews Most political scientists disagree with that assertion. We position political ideologies on a spectrum for simplicities sake and to understand how different ideologies interact with one another. You are more likely to see an alliance between dem-soc and soc-dem or soc-lib and soc-dem than dem-soc and National-Conservatives or F*cists because of how different in ideology they actually are. It isn't the best way of trying to understand politics but we need a method of simplification and a political compass comes with there own flaws and isn't nearly simple enough for the layman to understand.

      Why many ideologies share similarities to each other, political spectrums fail to convey the complex realities and relationships between them. It nigh impossible to predict outcomes (the alliance structures might have worked a lot more during the 20th Century than now). Most political scientists disregard the spectrum in deeper analysis, and many have proposed additional axis models to "improve upon" the commonly-used two-axis model. I prefer or have been thinking about creating an evolutionary taxonomy to showcase historical development and the many connections between systems of thought, but this still have problems. Any formation of a spectrum comes with the acknowledgement that it fails to truly capture the complexities of the political landscape.

    I'm a politically active myself, and its an inside-joke, basically across party lines, that we like to "promote" politicians away into the EU-Parliament. Despite that, a lot of important decisions are made there and I find it sad that the institution doesn't command the respect to reflect that- not that the system the member states came up with is easy or intuitive.
    With the EU Elections coming up we will be beginning the candidate Nomination process (at least in my party). We, that is to say the district chapters of my city, will be voting for a Delegation to the municipal party conference, who will then elect delegates to the regional conference, who will then elect delegates to the federal state conference, and who in turn will decide the Federal State List. After that point, I lose track of how Nomination go through. I assume the list must be harmonized with the other federal states. So yeah not exactly riveting or transparent, even if you are a delegate, or a candidate I suspect. (I found this out through gossip, can't google this shit lmao)
    Nevertheless, the EU-parliament is still enormously paramount and the democratic backbone of the European Union. It should be reformed to become more intuitive to the average voter and have more power as befitting of a proper Legislature, with a proper Prime Minister and a proper Cabinet.

    Great video! But as an American, I just have one minor correction. The term “Liberal” in the US means left wing, which in American means the Democratic Party with is is mix of progressives, neo-liberals, leftists and the like. While “Liberal” in the European sense of small government is referred to as “Classical Liberalism” and is supported by the Libertarians and to a lesser extent, the Republicans. It’s just a quirk of North American politics where liberal exclusively refers to the left.

    • @underratedbub

      Yes, it's a gross mischaracterization by Europeans (including this video) to equate what is called "liberal" in America to what's called "liberal" in Europe. Classic "America right-wing, America bad" smearing.

We used to have all kinds of labels in American politics like "Whig", multiple contradictory kinds of "Progressive" "Populist/Bryanites" literal Anarchists and Communists during the 1880s-1940s, other left wing terms were dominant. This colloquial definition of liberal is relatively recent FDR-Lyndon Johnson following the New Deal and a right wing reaction to Keynesianism, largely reflective of a rightward shift in the Overton window, trends with like Barry Goldwater, Ayn Rand, Mises, Ron Paul and others, chiefly Reagan.

      That's true. The liberals in America want... Well it depends on who you talk to because as I've seen there are many different liberal opinions with some being socialist and others being in a way conservative. I don't know but that's my take on why conservatives in America want tiny government and in Europe it's different I guess again I don't know.

Also, I probably should have clarified that the political parties in the US have changed quite a bit throughout their century and half history as there wasn’t a complete change from one generally left wing party and one right wing party till the 1970s.

    American here, for clarification, the polandball shown at 3:40 is the Libertarian Party, which is the most radical freedom party (they're against drivers licenses half the time) and generally seen as part of the right on economic issues while left on social issues, but generally seen as part of the center-right when seen as a whole.
    In general, the term "liberal" refers to those in the Democratic (the left-wing) Party and is different from the libertarians ideologically
    Technically speaking, everyone is some sort of liberal in the US due to our cultural and political history discoraging government involvement to the extent of Europe's.

    The ID and ECR differences are not so simple. It's not a kind of "ID is far-right while ECR is right-wing". Not at all. There are actually functions at ECR that are obviously more right-wing than ID (see VOX in Spain). The idea that ECR is... a centre-right party it's not correct, they are right-wing and even described as far-right, anti-immigration, anti-Islam and generally they also support nation-states than EU. At the other hand, even if there are some extreme or ex-extreme functions within ID, they are not as evil as described😅. Generally, ECR and ID are really close. The main difference between ECR and ID is that the first one is more moderate on EU issues while ID is more euroscepticist. Also, ECR is more right-wing (capitalist) on economic issues.

    • @L_back
      @L_back 5 месяцев назад

      That’s not an entirely bad analysis. What I’d add is that some parties in ID are prone to pro-Putin sentiment, meanwhile most parties in the ECR staunchly prefer the EU over Putin

      @@L_back well yeah, I think that is included at the phrase "the first one is more moderate on EU issues while ID is more euroscepticist". Generally, while ID is clearly pro-neutrality (for some pro-Putin), ECR is more catch-all at that issue, for example we see the Polish conservatives that are clearly anti-Russian, the Italian Fratteli d'Italia that are against Russia but also suggest more moderate stance, while in my country Greece, the ECR party Hellenic Solution is clearly pro-neutrality (described sometimes and as pro-Russian).

      howtheyvote.eu/ allows you to check how each MEP voted on specific resolutions in the parliament, which I used for the vote on the Russian agression in Ukraine.
      www.politico.eu/ is a trustworthy news resource that I used for some help with Qatargate and the ECR. You can just input keywords in the searchbar to find any specific thing you want.
      www.europarl.europa.eu/portal/en The website of the European Parliament itself is also obviously useful. www.europarl.europa.eu/about-parliament/en for example details all of the Parliament's powers and organisation.

    3:30 where you displayed the SocDem+Con+Lib couples at the top you got Canada the wrong way around... the NDP are on the left and you should’ve put the Liberals undeneath the FDP and Lib Dems as they’re the more liberal, less left wing, of those two despite the colour scheme which, as a European myself, I will admit is difficult for us to get our heads around... why the hell you’d make the liberals red and the socialists orange I don’t know!
    Edit: you also aren’t entirely right on your explanation of liberalism. Liberalism is very broad and can be like the German FDP who are free market, small state, or like the British Lib Dems which are so called Social Liberals who believe in a small state on social matters, like anti-surveillance, social progressivism etc but on the economy are more open to state intervention to free the people from big corporations... sometimes even more so than the Labour Party during eras like the 1990s/2000s under Blair and their current era under Starmer.

    Greek Communist Party is considered really popular in Greece and even though its votes are not so significant, most of people like or are neutral about that party. Generally it supports poor people but also workers, teachers, artists and actors, students etc. It mostly famous of saying "no" to everything because it considers the governments as hypocrites. Also they are considered the most stable and honest at Greek politics, while it has strong impact on the country's popular culture. And also, about the civil war, around 50% of Greek population supports the left part of the war, not the right-wing.

      @@Hovstaschack Bro this is irrelevant. I do not think that there are greek communists that support massacres, famines or the gulags. There is an attempt by the Greek Communist Party to either avoid commenting on such incidents, or to try to present a softer version of them or even to deny that these events took place as described, but the bottom line is that Greek communists do not support such practices and generally have a completely different mindset, despite fact that it is a traditional and hardline communist party. In Greece at least, he talks about justice, socio-economic equality, culture, grassroots democracy and freedom.

      @@ExtraInExile American ‘political spectrum’ is far from the actual spectrum,Dems and Repubs are like both moderate to substantially left and right as of 2023, they were up to the 90s centrist left and right, then became more mid left and right, now media/colloquial wise there is no center, you’re‘far left and far right’ for everything not in the parties umbrellas, and even though Libertarian is the true centrist, in american media it is lumped in with the worst of the worst far right (mainly because its a threat to the two-party-corporate-hegemony).
      Its confusing but would make a decent video, there are probably more American libertarians than anyother group here however they’re politically homeless and don’t even know the root of the word of liberal.
