Owned my Abarth 595 for nearly two years, and have had no issues at all. It's just as reliable as the standard 500 models. Maybe some of the plastics and trim are a bit flimsy and delicate, but the mechanical side of the car has been totally reliable.
I know that this video is quite bit old but I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved my Fiat. It was my first car super cheap very beautiful it lived a very short life when a kid came out of an intersection doing about 55 and t-boned me. (He was driving an SUV, btw.) I left that accident with a little bit of bruising from the seatbelt and a fractured ankle from the airbag being deployed. This car is amazing in crashes. I am a couple days away from getting a brand new fiat, because I loved the first on so dang much! Thanks for the video.
My last rental car was a Fiat 500 in San Francisco, and it handled the hills beautifully. It was cool to have the same car but in a totally different environment.
I would agree on a lot of your points with my 500 Pop. You absolutely become a brand ambassador for Fiat (which is interesting in my case as my family owns a used dealership and mine has sort of become the benchmark/guinea pig for the other 500s we sell) but you also have to endure your fair share of "The Joke." Most people are pretty cool and genuinely interested, just be prepared for it. The front is quite vertical and is an absolute rock magnet on the highway. I have a couple pretty good chips in the paint, had to have the original windshield completely replaced due to a huge crack, and am scheduled to have chip repair done for the current windshield this monday. I also have the clock problem (I just say it runs on Italian time) and I've had a tail light and license plate lamp go out at just under 20k miles. Road trips...suck. I've done a couple 12 hour drives in it and backache is a definite issue. It's a city car though, not some German Autobahn monster, so what do you expect? Gas mileage does crash precipitously at high speeds, which makes my 80mph state a bit costly, haha. Speaking of speed, I've cracked 100 in mine and it is unspeakably fun, you feel every last bit of it, but it's surprisingly stable and good at that speed. I've also had the opportunity to run mine at autocross a time or two and I should be clear here, unless there's a Scorpion on it, the 500 is NOT CLASSABLE per SCCA rules, I guess I just fluttered my eyelashes the right way or something. Anyway, when I did it, it was slowest times of the day bar none (but also way lowest horsepower, so to be expected) but I had the biggest grin of anyone out there. It is an absolute blast to hoon and actually quite manageable on the course. The car being skinny helps a lot and the ergonomics makes it so you can easily brace in tight corners while driving. In public, you can have great fun chucking it around in the twisties. I had an absolute blast doing Glenwood Canyon on I-70 in the dark and I regularly enjoy canyon blasts in other spots too. One last thing I'm surprised you didn't mention is the astonishing capability of this car in the snow. It is a little tractor, no questions asked. I do have studded snow tires the whole way round which makes it an absolute monster in a blizzard, but even without, it is excellent. I didn't bother putting on the studs last winter so with factory provided all-seasons on, my husband and I took it out for a wee bit of snow hooning...you can't spin it. Gas it and crank all you like, it ain't happening. You need the handbrake to get it to break lose. When it does come free though, it's very manageable and you can scoop it right back up. Getting to know the limits in an empty parking lot really gives you an idea of how capable this car is on a daily basis. All that being said, I am preparing to part ways with mine. It's a wrench for sure and I've turned up my nose at a couple good cars simply because they don't have the charm and sort of x-factor of the 500. The parting is made easier though knowing that I'm working on getting...an Abarth 500, of course.
Peter von Panda - some people have experienced an "uncomfortable feeling" driving their Fiat 500 because they feel like they're sitting up too high in their seat. Do you feel comfortable driving this car? Anyone else owning a Fiat 500 can chime in here as well.
I have the Fiat 500 on my "Future Buy" list. In my research for my video review, and after driving a rental Sport on a 600 mile business trip, this is what I've learned. - The Sport's 16" wheels are much more comfortable than the stock 15" wheels. The ride is much less bumpy when driving over potholes. Luckily, you can buy aftermarket 16" wheels and tires for under a grand. But keep the stock 15" steel wheels for the winter tires as their smaller size adds more grip to the snow. - The fuel mileage is pretty remarkable on the highway. Even more remarkable is that it can comfortably maintain highway speeds. A Smart Car would struggle to keep up with traffic. - If possible, don't drive on highways, even if the car can handle it. Find a nice country road with lots of curves, and activate the Sport mode. - Parking this little thing is incredibly easy, but don't park all the way into a space in a parking lot. If two soccer mom vehicles are parked on either side of the Fiat, other drivers will think they've found a free space and could rear-end the Fiat. - I actually like the engine noise. It's there without being overwhelming. - The rear seats are only a suggestion. :-)
@@petervonpanda The Sport's suspension is sprung tighter than the Pop's so that drivers can push in to turns and just keep going over bumps instead of sort of falling in to them and slowing the car down (we're talking in microseconds here, though, of course). I think a Fiat 500 Pop is a decent choice for this Fiat model, though, because of the car's light weight and how Fiat designers built the cabin and where the seat sits at. A Pop is doable but I would choose a Sport or an Abarth. An Abarth goes over my spending allowance too much, however, so a Sport it is. Having said that, from reviews of many people driving the Fiat 500 Sport, they're perfectly happy driving this car in a Fiat 500 Sport. It checks off their boxes quite well.
WE OWN TWO.. POPS... WE LOVE THEM... My wife Dani's was the first to se;ll in RI 3 years ago.. I shortly thereafter bought my convertable... 6 speed auto trans is a masterpiece... we have bras on both...also i installed double plastic plate covers to protect the front of the car... ours' handle perfect on highway... 40 plus MPG on hi-test only... we have the right mag wheels...and i have put protection strips in various location to fend off minor nicks etc... as you've said, we are constantly chatting up the cars with strangers.... you will love parking the car anywhere it will fit... it turns on a dime and has plenty of highway speed..it lives from 30-80 miles an hour... and hugs the road just fine... half subcompact, half sports car...we LOVE OUR FIATS!!!!!
I have kept my 92 VW 16v GTIsunce 99. Recently decided to get another car with a second kid. More reliable. I’m glad I avoided to 500 or the lusted after Abarth, instead I got a roomier, sensible, bullet proof, 2015 Scion XB Manual with 32k. I don’t have patience for constant issues and expense.
***** I've been told I should add a cold air intake however I haven't added any modifications to my Abarth yet - maybe later this year I might look into it.
Great choice! My only regret is not stepping up to the Sport. Cooler bumpers, alloy wheels, stiffer suspension... if I were doing it again, that's the only thing I'd change.
You've done a fantastic and articulate job in detailing your 2 year ownership of this great Italian car. In fact, you've inspired me to create a video (which I should post as a response to yours) describing my year and a half experience - which includes a very dirty white steering wheel, stained by having used a steering wheel cover for a month, and a crooked hood thanks to the ineptitude of the dealer mechanic when changing the oil. Cont'd ..
FYI- YES you can easily have the A pillar dent removed QUICKLY by dentless- THEY use a whats called a GLUE gun to pull the dent without going from behind...........have them on speed dial:) Toady everything can be fixed on cars easily. That dent would take about twenty minutes to lift.
Take the car to the dealer and get the dash cluster replaced its a common problem with the clock. Don't worry so much how you sound on the phone you should worry about your driving. The only design defect I have found on was you can't see the A/C light when its on. With a standard trans. I get 32 mpg urban driving 45 mpg highway at 65-70 mph some of the finishes are cheap but, it is a $15,000.
Great review, I just have one thing to say that might help your Bluetooth situation. The microphone is actually that little honeycomb pice in the center console under your temperature dials, not in the ceiling near the lights. Some times if the vents are pointed down the air flow can interfere with sound of your voice actually making it to the microphone. I've had my car for about a year now and haven't had many problems regarding this issue..... For the price, I don't think you can beat it.
Peter, you sure can talk.... Thanks for sharing! Loved the part about the door handle and your I phone stuff. Do another video when you get to 25,000 miles please I will be looking forward to it. Be Happy!
I have a 2013 500 Sport automatic with 72K miles. I have not had any real issues with. It is great and a blast to drive! I get great mileage: around 34 mpg in town and around 39 mpg on the highway. Best sources for parts are eBay and Amazon. You can find almost anything and for a lot less than the dealer would want. Peter von Panda can find a number of wheel choices on eBay for around $600 for all 4. Pretty much all front ends get dinged up. Especially flatter ones. Duh! On the other hand, they keep the rocks from going up and cracking the windshield. My windshield is in far better shape than my other cars with raked front ends. One maintenance item that will save you a lot of money is that the Cam Belt does not need to be changed until 150K miles. Most cars need this very expensive service starting at $60K.
Anyway nice car Adam, I got a spin out of one as a weekend rental around the UK and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun a car it was to drive, it does get a bit jiggy at speed around corners and hills but it just adds to how much of a hoot it is to drive. and for a little 900cc 2cylinder machine it well able to keep up with regular 1.6 petrol yokes. and the sound of the exhaust note!! A very fun little car they are that I would be tempted to buy as a runabout.
I have a 2012 Fiat 500 pop. I also don't like the tires/hubcaps. Mine is white with red and black interior. I also have the mopar checkered flag graphic on the roof. Love my Fiat 500. In a few years I think I might purchase an Abarth cabrio.
spray the front yourself with plasti dip, either get a grey or a clear. It will help prevent more chips and repel bugs, plus it peels off when you want.
After driving a fiat 500 for 6 years I can say that I agree with many of the things said in the video. First of all there is too much noise in the cabin, very tirring for long distance driving. Secondly although I have never faced a problem with the engine and other mechanical car parts the plastic parts of the car are poor quality in my opinion. I really love my Fiat because lets face it: It's pretty but I am dissapointed that my car looks so worn and damaged. The plastic fiat badge was detached and fell off the trunk door after a year. The plastic that covers the airbag is starting to separate from the rest of the dashboard. The piece of leather that surounds the gear stick is also detached from the base. Stuff like that. It's not a cheap car so I have high expectations when it comes to quality.
The Italians can design anything beautifully, but usually let themselves down at the final hurdle. Not too long ago, all your switches would have fallen off, and the body rotted out. Love it for what it is. Cheers.
Don't know if anyone told you or if you figured out the cruise control buttons yet but for everytime you press the button it changes your speed 1 MPH. So 3 clicks on either button would change your speed 3 MPH, 2 clicks 2 MPH etc
This is a great, in-depth review. I would have loved to have found this before I bought my Fiat 500 Pop semi-automatic 2 years ago. You have great attention to detail! :)
Believe me. I had my fist for two and a half years before I wrote it off. I love the damn thing down to its soul. I drive a subaru 2015 wrx and the hands free on that suck. I assume subaru hands free would be better but no. Driving while selecting what contact on a fiat is great but on the subaru it will say something like "for the safety" and it will go on about if for 30 second. Love to drive one again:)
Have had my 2013 Fiat Pop (manual trans) for 2 years and LOVE it! Handles well, doesn't feel like I'm getting pushed around by wind or semis on the highway. Great gas mileage, etc. #1 - Boy, do I share your pain about dings - mine seems to be a ding magnet both from gravel and other car doors... #2 Just FYI - drove a Chevy Spark once. Worst handling car EVER. Drove it from Baltimore to NY one rainy night. Was afraid I wouldn't make it.
"Door handle is really malleable and your finger nails can make gauges in it" your finger nails are long af too lmao so I'm not surprised that yours can
About the clock, I have had a Ford Focus with the same problem. I think the cause is when you start the car, all the electricity is directed to the starting motor and the clock holds. Every day about 4 seconds. (2-4 starting moments). It adds up per month about 30 days x2 or x4 seconds = 60 to 120 seconds equals 1 or 2 minutes delay per month.
I had a Saturn Ion that had the same clock problem. I think that at some point, maybe when starting, the clock loses power and goes slow. I could be wrong.
Many people like Spark for the torque, but somehow Fiat 500e is quicker 0 to 30 & charges quicker at level two, which is more important to me than having DC fast charge.
just bought a $45,000 Avalon. The Bluetooth/Gps is horrible. The Blue and me in my 2012 Pop is great. The voice recognition the Avalon Stinks. The Fiat's voice recognition is NO problem for me. The few times I've taken my Fiat in for oil change, etc. there is always a computer update(at no charge). Very satisfied with my Fiat. Maybe you need to take it is for some computer updates.
I pretty much agree with you on every point except the following (I have the 2013 Fiat 500 Pop): -The LeBra: Over time, the Lebra will rub away the clear coat on certain sections of your bumper. So either way your going to have issues with the bumper, although I haven't had any yet. -The Blue & Me system works fine in my car, albeit I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. People tell me it sounds clean and no issues when they hear me. The system is annoying when it can't understand you sometimes though. -Mile Per Gallon (MPG); I do VERY well on MPG. In-City I am usually at 35-38 mpg and on my cross-country trip I was doing between 42-46 mpg (I decided on a standard transmission Fiat, so I am guessing that might play a part into it). One other thing is it depends on how heavy your foot is on the gas throughout your drive, so that variable might change the outcome for different drivers. I noticed that you are at 3/4 of a tank full, but only have 259 miles "left" on the tank. Mine would be in the low 300's somewhere and at around 380-ish when full. So I am guessing you might have either a lead foot, or the automatic transmission Fiat 500 is a little worse on gas. -Cruise control; The minus/set button isn't going to decelerate on the Fiat, instead it will cause your Fiat to "coast." I don't know about newer cars, but when cruise control first came out, the button was called the "coast" button, so I am guessing its the same thing, even though it is not stated. -Dings, I haven't had many issues with dings, but I can't completely disagree with the dings issue. The Rear hatch metal is a little weak. On my 2nd day of ownership, I came our of the doctors office to find a dent in it to the left of the open handle/button. First thought was that someone backed into me, but on closer inspection I found a dusty butt print---yes, a booty, butt-cheeks, etc. Someone had leaned against my car with their ass and pushed a dent in it, probably on accident while they were annoyingly leaning up against my new car. -The CD player phone holder. I went through 2 of these and they wear out super fast. Maybe mine was too cheap? lol Other than those things, everything else you said was extremely accurate.
thank you! I am looking into buying one but the blue tooth is very off putting. the review was very helpful and I agree, people cannot really understand you well when using the blue and me especially at high speeds.
I put the Mopar cold air intake into my fiat 500 pop 5 speed gained about 9-11 HP and gas mileage is about 2 to 3 miles better the filter only needs to be cleaned once a year the car runs well. If I had to do it again I would most likely get the turbo that would be the middle fiat not the Abarth only because the Abarth is a little on the pricey side. I love my car wouldn't trade it for any else other than another Fiat. I put in a after market audio and the car really sounds nice. Great little car! P.S. the oil only has to be changed every 6 months or 8000 miles and that's a good thing. Don't let one of these shops tell you different they are lying to you.
Actually synthetic does absolutely nothing for a car that's brand new the dealership said I did not need it and that I would not want to put it in until after fifty thousand miles I bought my car at Northtown automotive Buffalo New York there's a largest car dealership in New York State I think they know what they're talking about and this wasn't the first person to tell me that synthetic is not always better synthetic all it means is that it's man made synthetic is man for older cars or for high performance cars meaning formula cars by even some of those cars still use regular oil
The front (2:50) of the car is that height in part due pedestrian regulations standards in Europe and everywhere. What you're trying to say (2:25) is "seen them".
3M stone guard. Autozone. Mask Off Spray On. DONE! Oh yeah dent on door. Adhesive dent removal. They use a special glue. Pulls out dent then glue comes off.
Can confirm...have had mine for less than 2 weeks and everyone does indeed want to know about it! lol Doesn't help that I live in a small town with lots of farms and ranches around. Tons of big trucks and SUVs in my town. Something this small is very rare here.
I really like these cars and have been looking at them for my new commuter. Feedback from long-term private owners is super valuable for folks like me - your videos are much appreciated. :)
A possible solution to your hands free microphone issue. In the menu on the radio, there is an item labelled "Speech Volume". It should be called "Microphone Gain". I have mine adjusted to 20 and I am able to speak on phone or use voice commands with the sunroof open with no issue.
A paintless dent removal place should be able to get that ding out. They use a process called glue pulling. They glue a plastic tab to the paint and pull on it to remove the dent.
Pretty good review. We love ours, and couldn't be happier. These are the 1st cars we've had that just make you want to go for a drive. Wife's getting about 34 combo city/highway in her Pop Cabrio, and I'm only getting about 26-28 combo in the Abarth Cabrio (mostly because of how aggressive I drive it). Agree with your comments on being an "ambassador" for Fiat no matter where you go (wife and I have said the very same thing), and the blue tooth mic is pretty bad (probably worse in the cabrios). I get a lot of people saying it's to slow or not enough horse power, and start quoting paper stats about how their car is faster just because it is. Yet...I've dragged raced a Corvette (up to 50 mph..the speed limit) and we stayed neck and neck, blown higher HP cars doors off on hilly, curvy country roads, and even heard one gal had better times in her very slightly modded Abarth (only had been lowered..that's it) on a track event then every heavily modded 300z that was out there (which her fiance drives...and is a member of the 300z club here..oddly enough he argued with me that my Abarth could never keep up with him until then). Americans are to hung up on more horsepower bigger cars..etc that it's not how much power you have..it's what you do with what you have. These cars are very comfortable..and found my wife's Pop more comfortable than her SUV on our trip to Colorado. Fun to drive..more miles of smiles than our other vehicles. Plenty of room for either my 215lbs Mastiff in the back...or my teenage son (granted..both wouldn't fit in the back...but we have a truck and SUV for those occasions). For daily use this is an ideal car..and for weekend road trips also.
Great video love your car I was wondering if you can do another video after 3 years video cause I'm interested in buying one but most people keep telling these cars are not reliable are you having any problems with it ?
Talking about road chips and cheap plastics what's the alternative? Cars used to be made with metal panels up front that rusted due to chips, at least plastic doesn't.
topspykimi I'm using a vinyl front-end bra. I might switch to the 3M spray on clear protection in the spring, but I'm sticking with the bra for the winter because it gets brutal around here. There's a video about it here... ruclips.net/video/29d6w-tHamc/видео.html
I own a 500 Cult, which's the flexfuel base model for Brazilian market only, and I have the same problems with the slow clock and bad mic. Mileage is the same, too, even tho mine is stick shift and our gasoline is mandatory 25% added of ethanol.
You might want to check junk yards for wheels. I had to replace two on a Jeep a few years back and found a salvage place that sold me two for about half to a third of what a dealer would have charged. Of course, the car is so new that there may not be many in salvage yards at this point, but there will be eventually. I ordered a 2015 500 Sport last week -- takes six weeks to get it, but got what I wanted - teal color, manual transmission to flat tow behind an RV, Tom Tom, Sirius XM and most important -- the sport comes with the alloy wheels. The hub caps are a turn off .. big time. The Fiat is getting rave reviews from RV owners -- it only weighs 2200 pounds, and to flat tow, all it takes with a manual transmission is put it in neutral, key in ignition to unlock the steering column and parking break off ...
Of interest is the soft plastic on the interior door grab/handle ... if you've ever owned a Fiat Strada (1979-1982) you'll remember that the actual shifter knob was made of that same material and it would actually melt right before your eyes - as it's the most used part of the car in a manual! No clue where Fiat even gets this material much less why they use it, and more astoundingly why it's come back 30 years later! Interesting bit of trivia for me when I discovered it. Thanks for this vid!
what's the lowest the mileage rage will show, before the fuel guage goes blank? example.. my chevy so on will show a finale mileage range of 35 miles, anything below 35 miles. it just says 0 miles
Thanks for the video! How do you find the speaker quality? Are you able to listen to music from your iPhone using Bluetooth, without connecting it through USB?
I'm late to this party, but I wanted to comment on the aluminum logo jewel on the steering wheel. It does suck--mine was already dinged up when I bought my Fiat 500 Pop. But I think they did it because it's part of the airbag. If there were a heavier/more solid piece on there, it may have caused problems. Unfortunately if you're like me and things like that bother you, you can't really replace it without springing for an entirely new airbag. Having a pristine steering wheel logo isn't really worth $300 to me, so I live with it.
Okay so I have been watching about 3 or 4 videos on the reliability factor of the Fiat 500. 2012 cars 2013. All of the works, as well as concerns that have been either discussed or physically showing in the video have been of a cosmetic or a very minor electronic nature, such as the hands-free Bluetooth set having trouble recognizing the user's voice. So now I will ask how is or how has been the reliability, have any of you had any major trouble, regarding the actual mechanical parts?
+squishydevil cool. have you ever owned or driven a mini? i owned once a 2003 Cooper S and even though its small its really not that small and its very heavy, solid. gas mileage wasnt as good as i thought it would be. i just want a compact car, manual, that can zip around. the Abarth seems the most logical.
+Paul Michael Recchia have not owned one but drove one a few weeks ago, actually. The car equal (actually a bit better) is the S version of the Mini. Both are solid, IMO and I would own one, too.
Agreed, but there are a few big complaints but nothing unusual. Most new cars have those few bad apples. I honestly I wish I would've went with the 500. Bought a Spark instead, weird engine issues still plague this little guy but hey, it's under warranty
i've had a smart for 7 years, you think the fiat wheelbase is short LOL. i put on a performance exhaust 4 years ago, too loud, it's stainless and i'm keeping the stock and praying for it to fail (it does add a few extra MPGs) for most of my service, i go to milwaukee, a fiat dealer (sold smarts before Penske lost dealer rights) they're nice and won't shaft you like an MB dealer. i've got oversized tires as well, 195/50-15s all around, which i'll take off this weekend and put on the stocks which are almost good in snow. (might get snow tires next month, 6 winters with the stocks and sports tires leave a lot to be desired, i'm in IL too)
my boss owned one for three years and just bought a second one cute little car she loves them I hope to get one they go on sale sometimes for around 10k new or buy used
I just traded my 500 Abarth . I loved it. The only thing I hated about it was the drop in resale value and the lack of rear leg room.. It was seriously a pocket rocket with the performance ecu.
Good eyes. Yes, Polar Vortex aside, the Fiat ran like a champ through the snow. I think the narrow tires help in the snow. Never got stuck. One thing to mention, after sitting outside all day at work, I fired it up on a particularly cold day and it was misfiring (only 3 cylinders were firing). Shut it off, and restarted, and it ran fine.
Peter Von Panda sometimes happens with a faulty spark plug or faulty spark plug cables. Anyway, if it's a petrol engine it's a Fire unit, it will hardly ever die on you. That engine also works pretty good on LPG.
If you want mopar parts, you order them online. No dealership is gonna stock "upgrades" for a car as basic as a 500, their typical customer will never consider that, or they'd rather try to upsell them to a "sport" or whatever had the nicer wheels. Just order them if you want them- or go to a tire shop and have them order them/fit rubber/balance etc.
500e My head would bounce off the headrest (had restraint), I rotated them backward, much more comfortable. Like many cars at any price, the seats are concave, needs lumbar and spine support. Steering wheel is too close to the dash. I've seen a 2-in steering extension, but it's $250 and you need to install it. Otherwise great car, great in the rain.
I have the 2012 sport. Any idea how/where I can change the tag lights? The dealer replaces the entire handle for $100+ and that’s ridiculous just for 2 little led bulbs
XxG1ANNONE93xX I see you commenting on chicks twerking videos like a straight creep. Look at your public profile bro... You're a fake and insecure as fuck
lol pal, i can comment on as many bitches videos as i want, but owning a sports car is a complete different story, so keep basing my fetishes on your beliefs, cause their are sexually aroused men who drive fuckin sports cars, so please do yourself a favour and hop off
That's pretty impressive. Sounds like Fiat hit the ground running, with a reliable 500. I'm thinking about one of these or a Spark for city parking. Obviously the Fiat has way more style, I just don't want to get stuck with problems.
Thanks! Other than road/wind noise, she can do 80-90 mph without a problem. Not sure she'll get up much higher than that, but I cruise at 80 regularly.
cruise control adjusts the throttle. If you ask for more speed it says "sure" and opens the throttle- giving you an instant acceleration. If you ask for less, it says "sure" and closes the throttle, waiting for the car to coast off the excess speed. You wouldn't want it to apply brakes, that's extremely wasteful.
Hi, I'm just about to buy this car and noticed that the automatic version sometimes rolling back or forward when u in gear (1st or R). And also you will feel the gear changing heavily when u in drive motion . Is this true
I wonder if the soft plastic interior door handle is a Fiat speciality. I had one of the previous Cinqs, and I think the owner before me must have worn a lot of rings, because the handle was totally pitted. I might be getting one of the TwinAir versions of this car, or maybe the Mini. It's better to think of a car like a pair of jeans or trainers, these days, because they're going to get scuffed and dinged, and no longer look pristine. Someone threw an egg at my Cinq, and that stuff doesn't want to come off. They used to make paint out of egg, in ye olde days. Fiat make great small cars, and my 23 year old dog of a Cinq was still fun to drive till I was forced to have it put down, due to a couple of holes. (Waxoyl your sills/rockers.) Thanks for the vid. Cheers.
It's funny how mass produced products vary. My cruise control works perfect and my clock is right on time. I do have the bra on the front because I forsaw that the flat front might get chipped. My hands free microphone works perfect, nobody can tell I am on speaker. I have had the car for 2 years and 27K miles with zero warranty issues and original tires are 50%
Peter von Panda Oh yeah. Going from the smart to the Abarth...the thing felt like a Ferrari in-comparison...and that sound. The smart sounds like a sewing machine compared to the Abarth.
+spacep0d I actually really like the Smart, but driving one turned me off to it. That transmission - er meh gerd... and the RWD concerned me for winter driving.
(He was driving an SUV, btw.) I am a couple days away from getting a brand new fiat, because I loved the first on so dang much!
Thanks for the video.
I rented the Fiat 500 for a week. I am seriously considering buying one. A very good ride and fun.
My last rental car was a Fiat 500 in San Francisco, and it handled the hills beautifully. It was cool to have the same car but in a totally different environment.
I just bought my Fiat 500 S 3 months ago, and i LOVE it!
Welcome to the club!
Great info! I think the sport also has a slightly different sprung suspension in addition to the different wheels. Thanks!
Where did you get the CD mount? I've never seen one and love the idea.
Nevermind, lol. I found your other video, lol
It's great. Made by XING, but I haven't been able to find any for a while now.
This week I'm gonna pick up my new 500 !!!! I'm so happy :) Good review !
Yes!
You are so right.. I have a 500 Abarth and random people are always asking me questions about it.
***** I've been told I should add a cold air intake however I haven't added any modifications to my Abarth yet - maybe later this year I might look into it.
Great video - i'm going to look at a Fiat 500 Sport tomorrow and this review has provided some much needed information.
Great choice! My only regret is not stepping up to the Sport. Cooler bumpers, alloy wheels, stiffer suspension... if I were doing it again, that's the only thing I'd change.
Peter von Panda im looking at a sport tomorrow :) going to test drive it for the first time. it looks superb. its a 2011 version in black.
I JUST BOUGHT AN ABARTH!!! I LOVE IT! ...YO!
jasontman36 Nice!
Getting my second fiat this week, they are very economical to run, love mine..
Great tip! I'll give it a shot and see if it helps. Thanks!
It's true. When you get a Fiat 500(I own a Rosso 500 Abarth),be prepared to be asked a lot of questions.LOL
Free sales force!
In owning a Fiat you basically become a "de facto ambassador" for the brand!!LMAO
I love the flag graphic!
spray the front yourself with plasti dip, either get a grey or a clear. It will help prevent more chips and repel bugs, plus it peels off when you want.
I might give that a shot!
This has been very useful video for us who's trying to get a used Fiat
Very good review....Just picked up my 2015 500 sport today...looking forward to my road trips as well.
7birchlane Awesome! Enjoy!
Cheers.
Great comment. Thanks for the info. Really useful.
Don't know if anyone told you or if you figured out the cruise control buttons yet but for everytime you press the button it changes your speed 1 MPH. So 3 clicks on either button would change your speed 3 MPH, 2 clicks 2 MPH etc
Great tip!
The clock runs slower because the FIAT runs closer to light speed than other more boring cars.
While still getting great mileage.
This is a great, in-depth review. I would have loved to have found this before I bought my Fiat 500 Pop semi-automatic 2 years ago. You have great attention to detail! :)
I'm so happy I saw this video this will be my first car in a few months
Nice!! Welcome!
Yeah I have a Cruze and talking to people via Bluetooth is so clear! Love your car btw!
Thanks! GM's hands free clarity is great.
Kevin De
"Door handle is really malleable and your finger nails can make gauges in it" your finger nails are long af too lmao so I'm not surprised that yours can
Panda needs to cut his nails.
My Chevy Trailblazer and Ford Rangers clocks do the same thing. Next up Fiat 500. That was a great post, very informative thank you.
Well, at least it's not a problem unique to Fiat!
Im thinking of getting an Abarth. Looks and sounds great.
The Abarth is sweet!
The plastic for the door pull is really cheap and easy to replace! Great video thank you!
Great tip! I might let mine really go before replacing it.
I wanna buy Fiat 500. Can you give me advice about engine and interior choices?
About the clock, I have had a Ford Focus with the same problem. I think the cause is when you start the car, all the electricity is directed to the starting motor and the clock holds. Every day about 4 seconds. (2-4 starting moments). It adds up per month about 30 days x2 or x4 seconds = 60 to 120 seconds equals 1 or 2 minutes delay per month.
I had a Saturn Ion that had the same clock problem. I think that at some point, maybe when starting, the clock loses power and goes slow. I could be wrong.
I have scratches all over the inside of my 500, you'd of thought they would have used some better material. She's still my little baby though.
Samantha Brown same for me, Sammy!
Great video! 500 is definitely a lot nicer than a Spark, iQ, Smart For 2, etc.
I would agree on the Smart ForTwo since I test drove one. I'd love to check out a Spark and iQ in person though.
Peter von Panda
I pretty much agree with you on every point except the following (I have the 2013 Fiat 500 Pop):
-The LeBra: Over time, the Lebra will rub away the clear coat on certain sections of your bumper.
Maybe mine was too cheap? lol
Other than those things, everything else you said was extremely accurate.
Copperti Quickcopper Great info. Thanks!
Peter von Panda
Thank YOU!
Stuart Walker I didn't even know that a CAI was available. Now I want to check it out.
6months 8000 miles, so does my 09 focus
3 months is still better , even with syntetic
synthetic is not needed in a fiat until 50,000 miles
Stuart Walker always use synthetic
Actually synthetic does absolutely nothing for a car that's brand new the dealership said I did not need it and that I would not want to put it in until after fifty thousand miles I bought my car at Northtown automotive Buffalo New York there's a largest car dealership in New York State I think they know what they're talking about and this wasn't the first person to tell me that synthetic is not always better synthetic all it means is that it's man made synthetic is man for older cars or for high performance cars meaning formula cars by even some of those cars still use regular oil
Hey Peter great video, I updated my Lounge to an Abarth because I had similar issues. Abarth is like night and day to all other Fiat products.
I'm jealous! I'd love to have an Abarth in my garage!!
way to go!
Can confirm...have had mine for less than 2 weeks and everyone does indeed want to know about it! lol
Doesn't help that I live in a small town with lots of farms and ranches around. Tons of big trucks and SUVs in my town. Something this small is very rare here.
I really like these cars and have been looking at them for my new commuter. Feedback from long-term private owners is super valuable for folks like me - your videos are much appreciated. :)
wynn94 Thanks for checking it out!
A possible solution to your hands free microphone issue. In the menu on the radio, there is an item labelled "Speech Volume". It should be called "Microphone Gain". I have mine adjusted to 20 and I am able to speak on phone or use voice commands with the sunroof open with no issue.
Great tip! I'll try that out for sure!!
thanks for the review, I'm considering a Pop myself as a commuter
A paintless dent removal place should be able to get that ding out. They use a process called glue pulling. They glue a plastic tab to the paint and pull on it to remove the dent.
Josh Aden Great tip!
Nice!! Fiat power!
Great video love your car I was wondering if you can do another video after 3 years video cause I'm interested in buying one but most people keep telling these cars are not reliable are you having any problems with it ?
hushjoker666 Your wish is my command! ruclips.net/video/2o4Y1YNJe04/видео.html
Talking about road chips and cheap plastics what's the alternative? Cars used to be made with metal panels up front that rusted due to chips, at least plastic doesn't.
I want the entire car to be made out of diamond.
Peter Von Panda Is that so you can refer to it as your little jewel. ;-)
You mentioned something in the video protects the hood and the bumper from the rock salt in winter. What is it?
topspykimi I'm using a vinyl front-end bra.
I guess the issues are pretty common.
Great tip!
+Nina Molina I've noticed it gets to about 20 and then it gives you a warning message.
+Nina Molina my usually shows 20 miles remaining and then a low fuel warning
Thanks for the video! How do you find the speaker quality? Are you able to listen to music from your iPhone using Bluetooth, without connecting it through USB?
Kelly Wong Yep! I made a video about adding Bluetooth here... ruclips.net/video/No2aoFmjGE0/видео.html
Try the Abarth. Have had mine (2012) for 2 years and has been a great car. One of the most solid cars, quality wise, that I've ever driven.
+Paul Michael Recchia im tired of heavy, large cars. its unnecessary and they have no spirit, you know what i mean?
(might get snow tires next month, 6 winters with the stocks and sports tires leave a lot to be desired, i'm in IL too)
Hot rodder
so you put a loud exhaust on your smart? what?
exhaust, K&N intake/filter, sprinter accelerator circuit (smarts have "wire" gas pedals) it's a bit faster and more economical.
mr bad example A fast smart? ow dear
I love my fiat500. So nippy and quick!!!
First import WITHOUT a lockable gas CAP EVER! STILL a nice car for the base price!
Mike Smith Well, they'd only get 10 gallons.
Thank you for the video, where did you get the phone holder that plugs into the cd player please?
It is made by a Korean company Xing. The place I got mine doesn't carry them anymore, and I've never been able to find them anywhere else.
Also I live in Denver, Colorado. Do I turn the ESC on when it snows? Thank you for your help, I really want to enjoy this car.
The default for ESC is on. You have to manually turn it off. You want to leave it on as it makes the handling safer.
Any tip on buying one? What options should I get? I'm planning to get one at the end of the month.
If I were to do it over again, I'd get the 500 Sport... but if money were no object, I'd get the 500 Turbo.
I bought a 2013 Abarth last month! Absolutely adore it!!
Ashley Botello Lucky. That car is my next one.
Laitharex Nice! Looking forward to having you join the club!
***** I absolutely adore mine. I have a white one with black trim.
my boss owned one for three years and just bought a second one cute little car she loves them I hope to get one they go on sale sometimes for around 10k new or buy used
I just traded my 500 Abarth . I loved it. The only thing I hated about it was the drop in resale value and the lack of rear leg room.. It was seriously a pocket rocket with the performance ecu.
Hi there! Which CD slot cell holder did you get? It fits perfectly.
Nico Berardi This is the one that I use and love it! ruclips.net/video/AQkTuiTKBvw/видео.html
I thought I saw Illinois plates. As a resident of Illinois, I was curious as to how the car handles snow.
Peter Von Panda Thanks for the information. I test drove one Saturday. Considering one either for me or my daughter. Impressive, quirky little car.
Always loved Fiat! They're awesome little cars!
BoostedView thanks!
Peter von Panda No problem!
500e
My head would bounce off the headrest (had restraint), I rotated them backward, much more comfortable.
Like many cars at any price, the seats are concave, needs lumbar and spine support.
Steering wheel is too close to the dash. I've seen a 2-in steering extension, but it's $250 and you need to install it.
Otherwise great car, great in the rain.
Complimenti, questa 500 ha una livrea bellissima!
Mauro Mondino Sì!
I have the 2012 sport. Any idea how/where I can change the tag lights? The dealer replaces the entire handle for $100+ and that’s ridiculous just for 2 little led bulbs
you should have bought the Abarth like I did. You would be a lot happier. My car is bad ass to the bone after a few upgrades.
Abarth is awesome!
XxG1ANNONE93xX Someone is compensating...
XxG1ANNONE93xX lol dude probably drives a Pontiac sunfire with huge exhaust
XxG1ANNONE93xX I see you commenting on chicks twerking videos like a straight creep. Look at your public profile bro... You're a fake and insecure as fuck
lol pal, i can comment on as many bitches videos as i want, but owning a sports car is a complete different story, so keep basing my fetishes on your beliefs, cause their are sexually aroused men who drive fuckin sports cars, so please do yourself a favour and hop off
Thanks for the long term impressions. It's 3 years later - how did it work out for you? Repairs, problems, final mileage?
+Michael Webber I'm actually about a month away from my 5th anniversary with an update coming soon. So far, nothing out of the ordinary.
That's pretty impressive. Sounds like Fiat hit the ground running, with a reliable 500. I'm thinking about one of these or a Spark for city parking. Obviously the Fiat has way more style, I just don't want to get stuck with problems.
When you update, maybe you could drop a note on the old video so we don't miss it.
did you get one yet?I might get the 4 dr for uber, chev spark seems good too
Still on the fence. Looking at the 1.4 Jeep Renegade, Spark, an Soul 1.6 stick. Spark maybe with CVT.
I have a similar ding on the A pillar of my 500. Got it from an old dude in a SUV.
Dude, bummer.
thanks for the detailed comments
Thank YOU!
I really like the color combination on your 500. Nice review also. Just curious how it handles hwy speeds (70-80mph)?
When you pulled the seatbelt maybe you hit the logo on the steering wheel. Happened to me once with the same result :( ..
Great review. I have a new 2013 Fiat 500 Sport in red and love it.
I know where I live, the emblem on the steering-wheel is replicable for about 75 dollars.
Nice tip! It'd be cool if it can be popped off and replaced. I'll definitely check that out!
You did some serious upgrades men😂😂
great review. well done
Gracias, amigo.
Hi,
I was wondering if you still like your Fiat 500. It would be great to watch a video updating your views of the car.
Sisyphus still love it! I'll definitely do another update soon!
Hi, I'm just about to buy this car and noticed that the automatic version sometimes rolling back or forward when u in gear (1st or R). And also you will feel the gear changing heavily when u in drive motion . Is this true
My 2013 Lounge gains 10 minutes a year... Yes GAINS! Biggest negative = road noise. Neat little commuter.
(Waxoyl your sills/rockers.)
Thanks for the vid.
Cheers.
I don't know what to think of this. Is it decent quality? I love Italian cars and this may be one I could get, but I don't settle for crappy cars..
Bentley Mulsanne They don't seem to have good reliability and scored poor in the IIHS small-overlap crash test.
I haven't tested the crash performance yet.
Peter von Panda Better leave that to the professionals my friend. ; )
Peter von Panda wait where is it made and does it have parts made from italy
Hussein Joudee Mexico
It's funny how mass produced products vary. My cruise control works perfect and my clock is right on time. I do have the bra on the front because I forsaw that the flat front might get chipped. My hands free microphone works perfect, nobody can tell I am on speaker. I have had the car for 2 years and 27K miles with zero warranty issues and original tires are 50%
Hate the Bluetooth and how bad my clock gets off in just a few weeks, otherwise, I love my Abarth.
Sweet. I came from a smart car to the 2013 Abarth in White. I like the graphics on yours.
I'd call that a major upgrade.
Peter von Panda
Oh yeah.
Peter von Panda
Yeah it definitely has its quirks!
