I have my Fiat for 6 years no problems. I was hit from the back on the freeway with my two dogs and I was happy that my Fiat protected me. I love my Fiat 500 Lounge. I just love my car.
Idk who owned my fiat previously but they apparently knew nothing about cars. There was so much wrong with the car. And the check engine always pops up even when nothing is wrong
Yes you are right Fiat is a car company that is really not any worse than GM and Ford. Yet Americans have just ruined their reputation running their mouths about how bad Fiats are yet most have never owned one. We are so into big trucks, SUVs and crossovers yet most of us struggle to make payments on these things. Americans think people who drive small cars are stupid. Yet the idiots are people who feel the need to drive an vehicle the size of a small apartment to the grocery store.
BB, I wish more drivers in this country gave a chance to small cars like the 500, they might realize they don't really need a car the size of a small apartment for every driving task they have! and you are right on with the fact that Fiat is no worse then GM, Ford, or any other domestic brand. Like i said, I've had zero failures or major mechanical issues so far. Just gotta stay on top of the PM and it should be good to go for many years.
Here in Australia most people have small cars, only tradies use trucks. My cousin from the US came to visit me and he was so surprised that everyone owns a small car, I didn't notice this until he pointed it out.
My young, immature, vertically challenged neighbor, proved your point by purchasing the newest GMC Sierra. He has little man syndrome, as so many short men do. We don't get along & one day he mentioned my small car. I didn't take the bait & said nothing.
Had mine since new in 2012. Almost 150,000 miles and it's the best car I have ever owned! I was so happy to hear that in 2024 Fiat is bringing back the all electric version in the US. I have already talked to my local Fiat dealer and have been added to the list to order one as soon as I am able. I honestly can't figure out why everyone in the US doesn't have one. Makes no sense. If you don't have one, go out and get one!!!
Nice video and I totally agree. I am 58 years old and have had mine since November 2011 and absolutely love this car. You talked about carrying a water heater in it. I carried a 10' kayak in mine with the front seat down, no problem. I sometimes refer to it as my Fiat truck.
Thank you so much for this, I am buying a 2013 Fiat 500 Sport at the end of the week and I was a bit worried that I might have made a mistake but I can't thank you enough, you've reassured me.
Congrats and welcome to the club! Yes, there is a lot to love about the 500. I actually just read that Fiat is now pulling out ALL models from the U.S. market except the 500x crossover, so now fiat is becoming even more a rarity here in 'Merica! Maybe its time to buy a couple more 500's and just preserve them for a future BAT auction..
just bought a 2012 500 sport, super excited to begin my journey with it. for anyone worrying about size, i’m 6’ 3” and once you get inside the car you quickly forget how small it is. they designed the interior very well to make use of the limited space.
@@Jas-lj5cu I absolutely love it, it had ~66k miles on it when i got it and over the past month have put just under 1k miles. During that time i’ve had no major issues(changed the oil& oil filter, topped off all fluids, and changed the engine air filter& cabin air filter when i purchased the car) When i first bought it had only two things wrong that i’ve noticed. The first being a faulty rear wiper sensor, when i turned the rear wiper off it wouldn’t return to the down position it would just stay wherever it was when you turned it off. After a day or two of driving the car this actually fixed itself and no longer throws a code. The only other thing is after letting air out of my tires(previous owner overfilled by 5psi each tire) the pressure sensors were saying there wasn’t enough air, but just like the wiper they finally went back to normal. I think these both are to be attributed to the previous owner not driving the car very much as it was their “beach” car. In terms of your height i think you’ll find the car to be very comfortable. As tall as i am i have the seat back to where i have comfortable leg room, and i still have maybe ~6 inches until the back of my seat would hit the front of the back seats. The trunk has decent space for how small the car is, can easily fit groceries( for one or two people, probably not a whole family). I just took the car snowboarding this past weekend and with the back seats laid down i was able to just fit two adult snowboards inside, granted i couldn’t see out the rear view mirror and they stuck out a little between the driver and passenger seat headrest, but wasn’t hitting my head or impeding my visibility out the passenger window. If you have any more specific questions about the car i didn’t mention feel free to ask and i’ll try to answer the best i can!
I have had mine for 4 1/2 years and love it! Bought new and has just a little over 50k on it now. Super fun to drive and cheap to own! Haven’t had any issues either besides one recall which was minor. I’d recommend a fiat to anyone
I love my 2012 Fiat 500 Sport that I bought new. It’s a 6 speed automatic and is the best choice over a manual 5 speed, it shifts smooth and combined with the “Sport Button” it is a great little performer. My mileage is great with the fact that 6 gear is overdrive. I don’t think I’ll ever give up my little Fiat, considering I’m now 82.
I've had my Fiat since 2015; the only issue I had was with the power windows. I took it to a different shop; I'm not sure if the other shop installed it correctly, it works great now. I've taken it on long drive, I mean four and a half days drive, with no problem. I have enough room in the hatch area, I can fit two large suitcases and a couple smaller bags. Plenty of room with grocery shopping. I love my little jelly bean. Great mileage, people are impressed especially now with gas prices how great the mileage is.
I love my 2012 manual! It is fantastic! My husband knocks it and NO ONE will work on it, but it’s easy enough that I can usually figure it out if my dad doesn’t have time to fit in my repairs. We replaced the cable for the clutch a year or two ago - the old design was not the best, so I definitely think it is worth replacing! I’ve had it 6 years and put on 100,000 miles. I never expected it to last this long, and I fear the day I have to find a replacement.
i wish you luck with your new fiat i have one and i love it i know its after the fact but you just want to be careful with carvana the charge way over the blue book value also you never want to buy a car with out physically seeing the car and testing it out plus you should allways have a mechanic check out the car first before you purchase it plus when you buy a car from a dealership if you have an issue you can allways bring it back with carvana your screwed because there is no dealer they bring you the car take your money and say bye bye just giving you the heads up i wish you good luck
We just ordered our Fiat 500 Lounge from Carvana, as well. The upside to Carvana is the 7-day return policy, and they pull cars from all across the US. They also provide the carfax report and detailed photos, videos, original window sticker, as well as all servicing info. And they deliver the car to your home. Where I live there are very few Fiats in local dealerships - I believe they discontinued the Fiat lounge and pop in 2019. So the cars are getting more scarce. And to purchase from a private party could pose as many or more issues including the ones the previous poster seemed to have about Carvana. We’re quite excited about our cute “new” car and glad Carvana helped us find exactly what we were looking for.
I have a 2012 500 POP 5 speed stick convertible and after a few years of major issues brought on by the the Fiat Dealer where I bought it (they closed down,) I am having a better relationship- with it and so happy to see a positive review here. I got the extended/lifetime warranty which I sometimes regretted because that ties me to the dealer, but since I changed Fiat Chrysler/Fiat repair centers to service it I am super happy with it and love that it fits in my 1938 single car garage.
I'm on my third; went from a pop to a lounge (that I still own) and now, finally, an Abarth Cabrio. While I have loved them all, the Abarth is really something else. That "throwing it around" on twisty, curvy roads you mentioned takes on a whole new meaning with extra hp and stiffer suspension, particularly with the right mods pushing these little pregnant rollerskates close to 200whp! The other thing that I like about the Abarth is that, even after tuning and bolt-ons, the car still gets right at 30mpg! Your vid is spot on though, Fiat 500s are fantastic little, affordable cars, and an Abarth's about as much fun as you can hope to ever find in any car with your clothes still on!
I've a 595 Abarth and I love it. I live in Dorset in the south of the UK and it's perfect for the thin, twisty country roads we have down here. Although that doesn't mean it's no good on the main roads. Such a fun little car.
Great review! I had a Fiat 2014 for 8 years and survived a super bad accident just two months ago. Car went up in the air rolled over and hit the electric pole and i walked away alive. I kept the car like new at 133K miles. Just bought another Fiat 500. These cars are made well and can do so much more. Definitely head turner if you keep them super clean. My last fiat the side air big did deply and saved my head in the roll over. Thank you for review. Also they look elegant / classy inside.
thank you for not bashing the fiat 500 i have one and i love it im not saying it doesn't have issues but i still love it i love the way it looks and i love the way it drives when i first got it i was a little disapointed in the handling and performance then i discovered the sport button wow its amazing what a difference a little button can make maybe its me it seems like it did something to the ride and handling now it feels like a little ferari
I agree with this excellent presentation. I bought a 2016 auto for my daughter. When I drive it, I stick it in clutchless manual mode and change gears myself, so I can rev it a bit higher than the car will in auto mode :-) It's heaps of fun, and hasn't skipped a beat or given us any problems at all. These are great, well designed cars.
Great video, I agree with most of your points. Here in the UK, they are literally everywhere. Im a 43 year old guy and live on one of the large Scottish islands and use my car for commuting to work. It’s great in dry weather as you can really throw it about on the country roads but it is out of its depth in really windy and wet weather, that said, you need to just drive to the car’s capability and not do anything silly. In Europe they call it a ‘city car’ as most people use them in urban environments. On the whole it’s just one of those cars that capture your heart and imagination, you forgive it the flaws because you love it so much! One thing that is hard to live with is the driving position. The right hand drive car has almost nowhere to rest your left foot when not changing gear, but you learn to live with it, kind of like driving a go kart. My car is just the basic Pop model and is 5 years old Here in Scotland, the government are banning the sale of all petrol cars from 2030 so i really want to get another petrol 500 before then that I can keep forever.
David, Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I love what you said about "you forgive it the flaws because you love it so much". Yes its quirky, its not perfectly engineered AND its not practical in some applications, but it definitely finds its way into your emotions. I'm also Jealous that you and everyone else on the other side of the pond have so many Fiats around in general! here in Massachusetts I only see one or two a week! AND i drive for a living so im on the road at least 5 - 8 hours a day.
Same thing as with the Alfa Romeo Mito. You forgive the few flaws for its wonderful personality, style and flair. Technically as good and at times better as any other european vehicle. My son has an old Fiat 127 as his summer car and always says that Fiat equals Love 👍🤌🏼
Brazil. I bought my 2010 500 Lounge Dualogic from a public city worker, dude had crashed underneath and didn't told me. I fixed it, and it works 100%. The automatic is not bad, only needs maintenance every 50~80k Km. The 6 speed is the best, you can do amazing mpg/kmL on travels. The actual automatic is also great, but DO SEARCH for the ones that can change gear on the wheel, otherwise go for the 6 speed manual.
I’ve had my Fiat for about a year now! I was just getting my license and wasn’t comfortable driving big cars and wanted to use something small to make sure I passed my test 😂 I had never even heard of FIAT before my mom started looking into one for me and TBH I didn’t even want a car! During the pandemic my mom was saving money (to my surprise) and showed me a FIAT I really liked but was reluctant to buy. We went and looked at it one day and took it for a drive when I told her I loved it! It was about 9,000$ at the dealership we went to and was a 2013 FIAT 500 POP with 18,000 miles 🏃♀️ We went back so fast and bought it that day, took it home a week later, inspected with no problems and everything! She’s perfect and totally helped me pass my test. Really comfortable for new drivers and everything in this video is spot on! Love your color BTW
I own a 2018 500c. It has a digital speedometer and a 7” navigation/radio screen. Love it. If I need big stuff to move, I just open up the roof and shove it in there, because the bootlid is way smaller. It has only 70hp, but I am looking for a Abarth 595 160/180hp to park next to it. Those are FUN
I have a Fiat Panda 4x4 only 3.6 metres long with a light weight of just 1050kgs. In the snow it embarrasses some of the more expensive badge 4x4 it almost floats not sinks in the snow. Love it.
@@gtyar4395 I am actually really enjoying taking a small car on our bloated streets of trucks, SUV's, and minivans, and just smile. Because I'm having a better time.
I’ve owned a Sport since 2011. Over 115k miles later, I still love it just as much as I did when I bought it. People still come up to me to ask about it/compliment it’s look.
Agree with video. We own 3...wife's 2012 Fiat Cabrio, my 2013 Abarth cabrio (got both new) and a 1980 Spider (a rarer automatic version). These cars got a bad rep from the start. Plenty of room, fun to drive, etc. We've taken ours on several cross country road trips with no issues, and plenty of power in the mountains. My cousin in upstate NY just got one also...owns an antique shop, and has no issue with cargo space. Just stay on top of the routine maintenance and should run forever.
I bought a bright obnoxious red 2013 sport about a month ago. I just bought it because I needed to take a long trip or 2, and I'm not flying right now. I wanted something a little quirky, something a little fun, good mileage and a 5 speed. After talking to a few people and doing some research, I decided I wanted a Fiat 500. I didn't want the turbo, just wanted something simple to use for the next 6-9 months. So I started looking and came across a Red Sport, black and red leather interior(its obnoxious, and I really like the body color brought into the dash), and I just fell in love with the thing. I bought it sight unseen for almost nothing. Didn't get to really drive it until I got it home, I trailered it home, it was almost 400 miles away. And for the record, couldn't really tell the difference between driving out there with the trailer, and driving home with the car on the trailer, its so light. For a car that I was originally buying for just short term use.. Nope. I'm keeping this little guy. It is so much freakin' FUN!! And now I'm apparently watching videos on how fun they are. It is a fun car, its raw enough, its not "perfect" and cushy like most modern cars, and I hate that. My old lady's Jeep will do 0-60 in 6 seconds, its a fricken rocket... And its BOOORRRIINGGGG. This little car will lose in just about any drag race, and I don't care, it feels zippy, it handles great, not too many bells and whistles, comfortable, I'm just shy of 6 feet, and not skinny, and I don't even have the seat all the way back, plenty of room. Its just fun. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only big hairy guy driving around in a bright red little S*** box. It makes me smile every time I drive it.
Hahahah no Bob your not alone! I'm so happy to to hear you are enjoying the magic that is the Fiat 500! Your totally right, it will loose every drag race but who cares, it's all about the quirk factor and the go cart like handling. I also smile every time I drive it. Happy motoring!
Mine is coming up on 130,000 miles. Bought it used when it had 124,300 mi. on it. The most complicated things on this car are the Multiair unit (which is unique to FIAT), the ABS system (which all cars have), and the electronic stability control system (which most cars have now). Keep the engine oil full & clean & the Multiair unit will be happy & trouble free.
I love it! It’s a gorgeous little car, isn’t it? I bought one earlier this year, brand new version with 6 gears mild hybrid, and I hadn’t driven for 25 years!! Haha! This car gave me the pleasure to drive. I agree with everything you mentioned. I transported a bicycle in the boot with the seats down, it fits! I drive fairly long distances regularly (2 or 3 hours straight) and it’s very nice and comfortable. It feels like a convertible, mine has a panoramic roof so it’s really nice and light. It’s a brilliant little car. As you said it’s not terribly powerful but it’s cheap to run and it does drive nicely when fast on the highway, it’s stable, the seats are comfortable. I haven’t found anything bad to say about it.
I am italian, i have two of these. One diesel (1.3 Multijet ) and the other double power (1.2 gas/lpg). They have near 470k km both the only one thing i have changed are a battery and the preheat helement in the diesel. In near 11 years. I bought them new in 2010.
I wish we had the Diesels here! I can only imagine the incredible fuel economy the diesel gives. What a testament to the build quality of these cars. almost 300k miles and they are still going!! Thank you Alessandro, this is so good to hear.
Even we Indians has Fiat 1.3 National Engine Of India Super reliable fun to drive almost every small hatch used this 1.3 Diesel engine and Even my Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 Has done 425,036 miles on odo and believe me not a single major issue till date love this car
Thank you. You seem to be a sharp and upfront guy, so I value this review. Seems the Fiat 500 is making my short list as I prepare to look for a new to me car.
I bought mine in 2012 fresh from the factory and it's still running strong and it has driven across Canada from British Columbia to New Brunswick and across the US too, even handled 40 below temperatures (he didn't like it but he got me where I needed to go). And only recently had to go into the shop for wheel bearings. Such a great car! I am going to run it into the ground and then I'll upgrade to the electric.
I had a Daewoo Matiz which were very similar . One thing I would say about it is it could go places offroad that I`ve seen people ( powerline inspection crew ) balk at and walk the track instead of drive . I believe your Fiat would do that too if you drive like you Own it . I used mine in mud and sand . They are so light they almost float over the ground. Front wheel drive appears not to have a normal open diff like a conventional car . Try it , but don`t let the floor pan make heavy contact with the ground. Remember drive it like you own it ! Fit snow chains if you like , they`re fun on it .
Totally agree!!! Oct .2020 got rid of my huge SUV ( mom taxi) and finally bought my dream car. 2012 Limited Gucci Edition. Love , love, love it!! 💕Added Gucci OEM side stripes to coordinate wit Gucci convertible top, leather seats and seat belts!! Plus of course , a luggage rack!! I’m in heaven! Easily does 75+ on freeway and my 6’ son n 5’-5” daughter fit comfy also. Wish it was stick shift but no complaints. Get complements All the time. Gas efficient ( I normally drive at 55-60) and cover my Bambina everyday. Picked it up from original owner wit low mileage. I’m sure it’ll soon be a collectors item, it’s a classic now!!! This will be my first summer driving this cutie. Looking forward to long drives wit the top down and living La Dolce Vida!! 🇮🇹 Has anyone seen the New Fiats and the limited edition Designer Fiats in Italy?? Gorgeous!! Guess Chrysler wishes it would have continued offering Fiats ( especially wit the price of gas now, CA- $4.99 gallon!) I flash my lights to every Fiat on the road, Siamo una famiglia!! Enjoy 😉!!!
You are going to have SUCH a good time this summer!! I am actually kind of jealous of anyone with the convertible version of this car because it's the only thing I wish for on really nice days here in Massachusetts, is to be able to roll that roof back and really soak in the sky! Congrats on your purchase and enjoy the drive!
@@gtyar4395 dont be too jealous my top broke 1 month after i bought it the estimate was 7000 to fix the top the insurance totaled the car so know i have a branded title and my top still isn't fixed
I love the fiat 500! Even though I have never owned one, I did own a Jeep. Renegade with a 1.4 turbo and a 6 speed manual and I loved it! I would love to own a fiat 500! Thank you for sharing your experience.
Glad it was helpful! I actually just replied to someone about the the electric version of this car, basically i was saying its an amazing value and a great idea!
Nice video. I just bought a 2012 500c, automatic.. It can be a dog with little power off the line, but overall I don't care. It is fun to drive and love how there really are no distractions... its pure driving.
yes! Congrats on the acquisition! Also, i totally agree with the no distractions observation. It's nice to just be able to connect with the car and the road and not have a multitude of screens and technology getting in the way of the driving experience. Thanks for watching!
I got the 2013 Fiat 500 Sport 101HP auto + paddle shift gears and it gets up and gooos, mine was imported to Australia from Europe, 1.4L (83.4") and mine is Russo Red like yours. It has more room in the back seats then the mini. It's just such a fun car to drive. Good video by the way Cheers.
I am in love with the 500s! I have test driven all the smaller cars thats at the price point. Hyundai i10 grand. KIa Picanto. Suzuki swift. This car stands out from the rest. It gives me Mini feels.
I adore my Fiat 500 - it's an absolute joy to drive and never fails to turn heads. Whenever I leave it parked while I go shopping, passersby can't help but steal glances at its captivating design. Investing in this car was truly a wise decision, and I especially appreciate the Sport feature. ❤❤❤
I would call it a go cart with a roof and mines a UK spec 500 lounge 1.2 with 69hp So would I buy another one ? Yes !! This is my third 500 if you include my abarth and I'd happily replace the abarth with another also
Have had my 2012 fiat 500c sport for 4 months now and it is my most favorite car i’ve ever owned (previously owned a bug before the fiat… not that great too many issues) so the fiat is a literal breeeezeee compared to that car i love it!!!! and the convertible option is so awesome… took me a few weeks to find one though because they never sell them anywhere in the US anymore.
Hi Rob, Love your Fiat 500. I'm an American living in Europe and a lot of people drive them here. I rented one a few weeks ago and had a blast driving it. There's a used one for sale near me and I just might get it!
@@gtyar4395 Yes, I've still yet to check it out. The only thing I'm concerned about is trunk space. I suppose I could always rent a larger car if needed in special cases. I do love the 500.
I've had my 500 Pop 11 years and 11 months; just 80,000 miles. I love it. It's cute, comfortable, economical, and fun to drive (considering it only has 101 horses). But it has been far from trouble free--I've had a number of issues, like the rear brake discs falling apart at 25,000 miles; the rear shock mounts dissolving; the right door handle breaking off in my hand; pieces of plastic trim dissolving; the wiring to the rear defroster breaking; the right window mechanism breaking; the rear wheel bearings wearing out; the valve cover gasket wearing out, causing an oil leak. Right now, when I start the car I'm greeted by three warning lights: "tire pressure monitoring unavailable" (the mechanics assure me that the sender is fine; the computer can't read it for some reason, and it's only on one tire); "have engine checked"; and "check airbag system" (which I haven't had checked because the light goes out as soon as I start driving. OTOH, it has been reliable in that it has never failed to start, even when the temp is well below freezing. Cool video, though; and did I see good old Gloucester in one of your photos?
Hi Jordan, yes you did see Gloucester in one of the photos! I'm sorry you've had such trouble with your 500 and I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with the car. Its important for people considering purchasing this car to hear your experience as well to know the things to look out for. Much appreciated and thank you for watching!
Original owner of a gray 2013 Fiat 500 Pop MT with only 53K miles in US desert climate & zero rust. Drives like new, regularly gets 45+ mpg and liability only insurance is stupid cheap. Want a Tesla 3 or Y (FSD & catapult acceleration). But difficult to justify such a gigantic cost differential. Agree with all your points, but would add one more: this car is incredibly practical yet fun to drive! Only repairs besides DIY maintenance has been trany shifter ball replaced (Amazon for $20) and dead headlights, that were replaced with great LED “bulbs”. Certain I would have same regrets as you, when time comes to say goodbye 😢
Coming up on 8 years this summer....No problems ....EXCEPT: Hubcaps are pricey, yet cheaply made. They keep falling off, I've replaced about 5 now......going to buy some off market caps. I average about 42 mpg, its unfortunate that they stopped making them.
Oliver, I know what you mean with the hubcaps. I actually lost one as well during my first few months of ownership, and when i saw how much it was to replace (about $90) I figured, might as well just buy 4 new rims since each RIM is about $100, and i wouldn't have to worry about hubcaps falling off anymore. Needless to say, when i see a fiat 500 hubcap on the road, i stop and pick it up so i can sell it on ebay =-)
I had a 2012 Abarth, then a 500L, then a 500X and now just bought a used 2012 500 Pop. Never had any issues with any of them other than normal maintenance. Fantastic cars with sweet styling and not like every other cookie cutter car out there. No doubt the 5 speed manuals are the most fun. Automatics suck some of the joy out of them, but they are still a sweet little exercise in styling and fun. Now that they have pulled the 500s out of the USA, the gas prices are surging up and everyone is looking for one. For laughs I looked on Carvana and every one they had was in the process of being sold. The prices were crazy...there was a 2012 with 107,000 miles on it for 15K and it was purchased. Fiat is having way more success moving these used since they pulled them out of the new car market. LOL! If gas continues to get worse, I would not be surprised to see them come back. They still are a huge success in Europe where gas is 9.00/gallon. Now that Fiat is merged with Peugeot to form Stellantis, they are the third largest carmaker on the planet. Just behind Volkswagen and Toyota, so they are going to have a lot of clout! Great videos and I will miss your little red friend. For the record, mine looks exactly like yours! Have fun with your Solstice!
Thanks Chuck! I too miss the Fiat, and its only been like 4 months! The Solstice is such a different yet amazing experience, but I'm very happy with the decision to move towards the Pontiac. Interestingly, it gets about as much attention as the Fiat did. Every gas stop has the potential to be a mini show-and-tell session. Thank you for your commentary and Enjoy the Drive!
I have a 2013 Lounge 5 speed, and loved it for the first 2 years despite the expensive brake job at 4 years and 60,000 km. The door handles broke under warranty and then again 2 or 3 years later cost about $500 to repair, the next time the drivers door broke I bought parts for both doors for $50 or so on Amazon. On a trip to Florida via New Orleans the transmission became virtually unshiftable, I had 3rd and 4th. Drove it from just outside New Orleans to Sarasota that way because I was afraid to be ripped off by some mechanic along the Interstate. Turns out it was some bushings in the shift linkage, not available for two weeks from Chrysler but the garage I went to put in some generic bushings and treated me right, parts and labour just over $200. Catalytic converter rusted off the exhaust, $1500 parts and at the same time the alternator went south another $700 estimated repair, the wiring harness in trunk broke so you couldn’t open the trunk anymore, all four wheel bearings had to be replaced there are probably more repairs I can’t remember. I agree it was fun to drive, comfortable for two on road trips with plenty of luggage space but reliable and cheap to repair wasn’t my experience.
Yikes! What a terrible experience.. I have heard similar horror stories from other 500 owners.. It seems like its hit or miss with these cars. I bet if i had mine for a couple more years i would have started encountering some of the issues you mentioned, especially here in new england where the roads are fairly hostile (Salt, Snow, Potholes) Thank you for for taking the time to share your experience.
I have owned and loved fiats since I was 18 years old and bought my first one. A 1976 124 Sport Spider, I have had an X 1/9, a 124 Sport Coupe' and while I now have a 2012 500 Abarth, I also have a 1977 124 Sport Spider that I need to put back on the road. The 500 has been a delight, I get around 32 to 33 mpg with it, nothing has failed on it in the couple of years I have owned it (bought it used) and it really is a car that attracts women. One of my corvette driving co-workers was surprised how many women love the cute little Fiat over his vette.
Sailing Spark, you are a true Fiat fan! What a blessing to have experienced so many Fiats. And Yes, you make a great point about the attention this car gets compared to other, more powerful sports cars. That's a huge reason why i enjoy my 500 so much, its just so darn quirky and unique.
It's true that the 500 is a chick magnet. I also have a really nice Miata--it's basically invisible to women. But countless women have told me what a cute car my Fiat is; most have never even heard of the make. And kudos on your Fiat history; I learned to drive in my mom's 1976 Fiat 128 4-door.
Had mine since new in 2013,we call him gweedo, fun car to drive and 40 + miles to the gallon, now we tow it behind our rv full time toad, just turned 140 k !😍
Oh my god, this is brilliant.. That's exactly what this car is, a Ferrari egg hahahahah. I always tell people who ask why i bought a Fiat, "Hey, its red and its Italian! it's a poor mans Ferrari"
When these get old enough that I can pick one of these up “a little bit broken” for sub $1000, I’m in ... as long as parts a cheap and easy to locate then. We’ll see!
I use mine to go to the airport. That way I know my luggage will fit in the rental car. Went to Glasgow a few years ago and when I got to the rental car counter the guy said I don’t think all that luggage will fit in the car you reserved (my wife doesn’t pack light) so I asked what car is it and he said a Fiat 500. I said no problem it came out of one!
👋 from Japan 🇯🇵😊 I have been driving Fiat 500C for 6 years with 95,000km on it. It is a great car👍 I love it! However, Fiat Japan sells mostly car with Dual Logic Gear System in Japan. This is such a pain and raises running cost of this car..... This gear system needs to be replaced with the new one after around 1,00,000km, along with clutch..which I am currently going through this process due to gear malfunction... Other than that this jewel is great 🚗
Passing a used car lot one night, I spotted one and went to check it out. Up to that point, I'd been leaning toward a Mini Cooper but I was absolutely smitten with the little 500. I did my research (curiously, though, it didn't occur to me to drive one) and found the version that I liked most, the sport model, and I set to looking for one. That was January and I found the right one for the right price, had it trucked down from Washington state. It needed brakes, a headlight, a radiator hose, and a good detailing. I agree with every reason given here and there's the added bonus that virtually everywhere I go, I have the only example in the parking lot.
Welcome to the Fiat family! And thank you for sharing your story. Get ready to be asked at every gas station stop "hey, whats the miles per gallon in that thing?" =-)
Awesome video! I totally agree with you. I’m 22 years old, and I have a 2007 fiat 500 lounge, white color. It was my mum’s car, and when I turned 18 (In Italy you can drive from18 y.o.) she gifted me her fiat 500. My mum bought the new fiat 500, but it’s really similar to the old one. We both love this car!! It’s simply amazing. Did you change the exhaust? Your car has a really good sound!
Thank you Federico! I'm so happy you and your mom are enjoying the magic of the 500 =-) The only thing i did to the exhaust is remove the muffler. Such an amazing improvement in sound with such a cheap modification. I advise everyone to take off their fiat 500 muffler hahaha! i must say, I do miss my 500 and sounds it would make... I sold it about 4 months ago. Happy motoring!
I just bought my first Fiat. It's a 2014 500L. I love it but I hope to find a reasonably priced 2015 because I don't want to deal with the duel clutch in the 2014.
me too i finally got one and i love it but it is a pain in the ass i had 3 major things go wrong with mine within 1 month of ownership if you want reliability buy a toyota but the fiat is beautiful to look at and a blast to drive when its not in the shop lol you know what fiat stands for right? fix it again tony lol buyer beware
In 11 years ownership I have only had to replace a door handle and the wiring loom which runs into the hatch. Aparently this is a weakness in them. But only a couple of £100 in maintenance is pretty good for 11 years. Servicing and tyres are pretty cheap as well. Great little car.
I have my Fiat 500c lounge for 6 months now. LOVE IT. Every time it makes me smile.
I assume you weren’t hit by a Volvo❓
Bro😭 hit from the back on the freeway😭
@@digzcentralthat sounds wrong on so many levels lmao 🤣
Yes you are right Fiat is a car company that is really not any worse than GM and Ford. Yet Americans have just ruined their reputation running their mouths about how bad Fiats are yet most have never owned one. We are so into big trucks, SUVs and crossovers yet most of us struggle to make payments on these things. Americans think people who drive small cars are stupid. Yet the idiots are people who feel the need to drive an vehicle the size of a small apartment to the grocery store.
Actually i agree with you cause i seen a couple vids and they been talking trash but I want this car as my first car cause is really cute and fun
I see that you are a person of taste, well said!
51 yr old British male and I've just bought mine. Arrives in 3 days!!
I'm hoping to get a good lease deal on the new 500e as my 2015's range is a bit lacking
Nice video and I totally agree. I am 58 years old and have had mine since November 2011 and absolutely love this car. You talked about carrying a water heater in it. I carried a 10' kayak in mine with the front seat down, no problem. I sometimes refer to it as my Fiat truck.
Victor that is phenomenal! HAHA i love the Fiat truck designation. Aren't hatchbacks the best?! thanks for watching!
I saw a video of an English guy taking a motorbike with his 500 from the uk to Sicily!!
I've had mine over 8 years and I'm still in love with my baby. It does everything I ask of it and more.
Thank you so much for this, I am buying a 2013 Fiat 500 Sport at the end of the week and I was a bit worried that I might have made a mistake but I can't thank you enough, you've reassured me.
I bought my 2013 Fiat 500 Sport a few weeks ago and love everything about it!
I love simple cars. I feel free in such cars. If you know what i mean
Still loving it?
Thinking of buying one!
just bought a 2012 500 sport, super excited to begin my journey with it. for anyone worrying about size, i’m 6’ 3” and once you get inside the car you quickly forget how small it is. they designed the interior very well to make use of the limited space.
I’m 4’ 11 and getting one soon. Can you update on how well you like it
@@Jas-lj5cu I absolutely love it, it had ~66k miles on it when i got it and over the past month have put just under 1k miles. During that time i’ve had no major issues(changed the oil& oil filter, topped off all fluids, and changed the engine air filter& cabin air filter when i purchased the car)
When i first bought it had only two things wrong that i’ve noticed.
@@nendouuu2443 I just went to go see a few yesterday and I fell in love with them! I just couldn’t test drive them. I wanna see how they feel 😅
I have had mine for 4 1/2 years and love it! Bought new and has just a little over 50k on it now. Super fun to drive and cheap to own! Haven’t had any issues either besides one recall which was minor. I’d recommend a fiat to anyone
I’m buying mine this week and I’m super exited! I live in NYC and parking is a nightmare so this car is perfect!
I bought mine just about three weeks ago and I’m loving it.
Welcome to the Fiat family!
We have a 2013 Pop, not a single issue. It is now 2021 we are keeping it until we die, or it dies. Love the car.
recently got a red fiat 500 and i love it! never any problems. super cute and comfortable love the matching interior to the outside color.
I have a Fiat 500 lounge 2014 in sky blue, absolutely love it, no problems in 3- 4years I've had it.
I own the abarth. Ill never get rid of her. 121k hard miles now. No issues :)
That's Awesome!!
Looking at all these comments I'm so glad I just bought my Fiat 500 Pop. I can't wait to drive around and take her on road trips
Thanks for sharing!
You're absolutely right ! Last year i bought a 2012 500 Lounge and i love it so far !
Sam that is fantastic! Congrats!
Just ordered one off Carvana and it’s expected to arrive in 6 days!! This video just made me even more excited
i wish you luck with your new fiat i have one and i love it i know its after the fact but you just want to be careful with carvana the charge way over the blue book value also you never want to buy a car with out physically seeing the car and testing it out plus you should allways have a mechanic check out the car first before you purchase it plus when you buy a car from a dealership if you have an issue you can allways bring it back with carvana your screwed because there is no dealer they bring you the car take your money and say bye bye just giving you the heads up i wish you good luck
LJT, congrats! You have made a wise choice. Enjoy the drive!
I got the extended/lifetime warranty which I sometimes regretted because that ties me to the dealer, but since I changed Fiat Chrysler/Fiat repair centers
to service it I am super happy with it and love that it fits in my 1938 single car garage.
@@Slavic_Boer Non-ethanol premium fuel no less; $4.89 a gallon as of yesterday, but averaged 31.6 mpg from the previous tank full, and I drove it too
I've got an 18 plate 595 Abarth and I love it.
Yes! I own a Fiat 500 and your review/reasons are so honest! 100% agree with everything you said.
Heaps of fun is right! Thanks for the feedback Jack!
😊 nice family story
Welcome to the Fiat family! You got a good deal on a 500 with such low mileage. Thanks for your story!
Love it.
Bought one 2 days ago, and I'm already loving it- as well as how to mod it...;)
Congrats!
Awesome Eric! Congrats! Oh there are many mods available as i'm sure you have already discovered.
People still come up to me to ask about it/compliment it’s look.
my 500c make people smile
Currently think about buying one of the newer "hybrids". I'm comparing a lot right now, but tbh I'm in love with a blue 500 rockstar in my area.
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who thinks the fiat 500 is great.. like I love it , everything about it 😆☺☺
Agree with video.
I've never been in one, but it certainly looks beautiful and fun.
This little car will lose in just about any drag race, and I don't care, it feels zippy, it handles great, not too many bells
and whistles, comfortable, I'm just shy of 6 feet, and not skinny, and I don't even have the seat all the way back,
plenty of room. Its just fun.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only big hairy guy driving around in a bright red little S*** box. It makes me
smile every time I drive it.
I'm picking up my 2012 Fiat 500 Convertible tomorrow! Can't wait!
Fantastic! Congrats and happy motoring!
Thank you for sharing your experience Nanou! They really are way more comfortable on long trips then people might imagine. Happy Motoring!
The size is a great plus. I have a 1 car garage and with the fiat in there, the garage still has plenty of space.
IT really is a great little "spare" car.. I drive mine only on weekends now and also when my daily driver is getting repaired.
We have one, we love it. Real classic!!

I purchased the 2014 500e and im in love!!!!!
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Fiat! So cool to hear that it still performs well even in seriously cold temps.
I love the fiat 500! Even though I have never owned one, I did own a Jeep. Renegade with a 1.4 turbo and a 6 speed manual and I loved it! I would love to own a fiat 500! Thank you for sharing your experience.
thank YOU for watching!
Thanks for making this video. I’m currently considering the Fiat 500e, and this video was nice for making the decision
Glad it was helpful! I actually just replied to someone about the the electric version of this car, basically i was saying its an amazing value and a great idea!
@@gtyar4395 it’s certainly seems like a great car, just need to decide if I can deal with the lack of fast charging
I bought my Fiat Pop Sport in February , I'm in love with it !!🥰
My son just got an Abarth, what a fantastic car!!! So fun to drive!!
I just picked up a 2013 - 500 lounge. I love it. I'm excited to put it to use in the city
Congrats! Your really going to enjoy parking it!
Thank you Stew! Happy motoring!
Thank you for watching and for sharing!
I absolutely love my Fiat 500~
yeah fiat is very underestimated
I’ve been thinking about one. I own a 2019 Fiat 124 Spider and love it! I honk at all the 500’s I see!
Best car(s) I’ve ever owned! Hands down!
Love your left-hand gear changes!
I just got a mint green 2016 1.2 pop Fiat 500 in Scotland on Wednesday. Loving it so far
Sweet! congrats on your acquisition! I rarely see that mint green color here in the U.S., but I do like it! Happy motoring and thanks for watching!
Thanks Rob, I been looking for a small car and find this video to be help full.
You are welcome. Thank you for watching!
I love mine too. They have such a personality.
Nips down to Cornwall, no probs! (325 miles). And the seat doesn’t kill me! Unlike some.
Sweet! yes, the seat is really surprisingly supportive and soft in all the right places. Very impressive on long trips. Thanks for sharing Theodora!
I would call it a go cart with a roof and mines a UK spec 500 lounge 1.2 with 69hp
So would I buy another one ?
Thank you so much. I have been deliberating but you certainly helped me make a solid decision.
Hi Rob, Love your Fiat 500. I'm an American living in Europe and a lot of people drive them here. I rented one a few weeks ago and had a blast driving it. There's a used one for sale near me and I just might get it!
Thank you for sharing Geotubest! I say if the one near you for sale is well taken care of, you should acquire it!
@@gtyar4395 Yes, I've still yet to check it out. The only thing I'm concerned about is trunk space. I suppose I could always rent a larger car if needed in special cases. I do love the 500.
Not a bad car now gas is expensive. I have a 2013 and it gets 44 mpg on regular gas. I think the newer ones require premium though.
I did have one 5 years, not one problem.
Great little CAR:-)
We love our 2012 Sport!!!
Thank you! This video was super helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and intel! every time i see one on a road, I feel that little bit of regret for selling it.
Needless to say, when i see a fiat 500 hubcap on the road, i stop and pick it up so i can sell it on ebay =-)
i have the 500 openair edition nr 3 of the first 50 in denmark its my baby my friends love it once they get a ride
I just bought a 2012 with 24,000 miles for 10 grand
Bought 2015 500c Abarth week ago, still can’t stop smiling while driving it
if you notice the other people around you are smiling too it just makes people smile especially my mechanic lol just kidding
HAHAHA good one Mike..
Hi I just got a 2018 fiat 500x and I love the fuel economy. And it sporty look and as you quieted comforts thank for sharing your thoughts
thank YOU for watching!
SOME TIME MY FIAT 500 POP TRANSMISSION DUALOGIC STUCK IN NEUTER BUT THE KEY IS TO WARN IT UP ON WINTER MORNING AND YOU WILL SEE.. THE FIAT IS GREAT
Thanks for this review . After researching you’ve covered everything I needed 🙌🏾
Your Welcome Cathie! so happy this video was helpful.
I'm on my 6th! Cabriolet Sport I miss the most but I only keep a car for 30 000km
Had mine since new in 2013,we call him gweedo, fun car to drive and 40 + miles to the gallon, now we tow it behind our rv full time toad, just turned 140 k !😍
It's like a Ferrari laid an egg. I love it!
Oh my god, this is brilliant.. That's exactly what this car is, a Ferrari egg hahahahah. I always tell people who ask why i bought a Fiat, "Hey, its red and its Italian! it's a poor mans Ferrari"
@@gtyar4395 thats so funny thats what a call mine poor mans ferrari lol
When these get old enough that I can pick one of these up “a little bit broken” for sub $1000, I’m in ... as long as parts a cheap and easy to locate then. We’ll see!
I use mine to go to the airport. That way I know my luggage will fit in the rental car. Went to Glasgow a few years ago and when I got to the rental car counter the guy said I don’t think all that luggage will fit in the car you reserved (my wife doesn’t pack light) so I asked what car is it and he said a Fiat 500. I said no problem it came out of one!
Love my 2015 Arbarth 500 white with white wheels know mods all stock
Going check out a fiat tomorrow 115K miles. Watching many videos to see if it’s worth it
👋 from Japan 🇯🇵😊
I have been driving Fiat 500C for 6 years with 95,000km on it.
Other than that this jewel is great 🚗
I did not know this about the Fiats in Japan. Thank you for sharing this intel, and thanks for watching!
Love Fiat and Japan 🌺
😖unfortunately in our Fiat stop selling his Càr"'
@@gtyar4395 thank you so much, I’ll remove the muffler! Happy motoring you too!! :-)
I just bought my first Fiat. It's a 2014 500L. I love it but I hope to find a reasonably priced 2015 because I don't want to deal with the duel clutch in the 2014.
Haha it’s has been my dream car for as long as I can remember, I will get it one day.
me too i finally got one and i love it but it is a pain in the ass i had 3 major things go wrong with mine within 1 month of ownership if you want reliability buy a toyota but the fiat is beautiful to look at and a blast to drive when its not in the shop lol you know what fiat stands for right? fix it again tony lol buyer beware
In 11 years ownership I have only had to replace a door handle and the wiring loom which runs into the hatch. Aparently this is a weakness in them. But only a couple of £100 in maintenance is pretty good for 11 years. Servicing and tyres are pretty cheap as well. Great little car.
Thank you kindly for sharing your experience Ade!
I have an automatic no problem had it for 6 years.
