    I almost skipped this video, as I've seen so many old hand drill restos lately, but I'm glad I didn't because it is a very beautiful old piece of tool, and you did a great job! 👍👍👍

    I found this exact drill at a Salvation Army today for $5. Came home to do research and found this. Thanks so much. Only downside is that it's missing the top rest piece.

    I can understand your hesitation to restore this drill, it was so damned pretty untouched. But you certainly did it justice and you definitely made the right choice, it looks absolutely gorgeous.
    Another wonderful restoration and great video, thank you.

    That came out really well. I’m not into these drills but I did enjoy this restoration and I like the clever speed change.

    On dit que les choses ne sont originales qu'une fois, mais elles sont vraiment jolies quand une personne comme vous prend le temps de leur redonner leur beauté d'origine. Très bien fait.

    Excellent restoration! I was concerned when you stripped off the original lettering then more than relieved when you replaced it. Almost too pretty to use but anyone would be proud to use that old drill. Great work!

    I decided to watch from your first video onward to gauge how you improve. The previous videos were fairly unimpressive compared to this one, and if this quality continues then this video marks a major turning point in content quality from my perspective! Great job and I hope you see success in the future! Will continue to watch! No spoilers!

    Hello ! I'm happy, because by chance, I bought second had the exact same model you are restoring here ! But I'm afraid I'll have to buy a new chuck : the three little springs between the jaw were missing ... I'll also have to make a new butt-plate, it won't be like the original but I think I'll have some fun doing it !

    I just purchased almost exactly this same drill. Only difference is the breast plate on mine does not have the set screw on the other side. I was searching to see who has restored this and found this vid. Very nice job. Really appreciate you showing me how to switch the gearing with that little button. Had no clue. Any chance I can get the decal from you?

    Nice drill and good job. I don't know what it is but, I prefer the pre-restored with it's aged look that's just my preference. I collect braces I just clean them remove rust and then use them.

    nice restoration. i have one like this but it's missing that brass sleeve and inside of it it's missing the two elongated u shape keys, which makes it inoperative. i will try to make the two keys but do you think the outer brass sleeve is necessary?

    • @forgottentoolsrestoration1786
      @forgottentoolsrestoration1786  3 года назад

      Thank you ! I think the brass sleeve role is to keep the grease inside and the dirt outside, it will work without it but it may need some cleaning more often :)

    Great restoration, one small thing.....what is a 1910 Breast drill?? Is that the actual name of this hand drill or a simple spelling error? Not trying to be an ass, legitimate question.

    • @forgottentoolsrestoration1786
      @forgottentoolsrestoration1786  5 лет назад

      Thank you ! "Breast drill" is one way to designate this type of drill, because you have to rest the backplate on the chest while drilling, 1910s is the manufacture period :)

    • @Hyratel
      @Hyratel 5 лет назад

      It's a crank drill, subtype breast drill. The plate was to lean your weight into the action and get deeper bite with the drill, compared to modern drillls which ccan afford the time to make shallow cuts by running at 700-1000 rpm. One one these would be doind well to hit 200rpm

    Tip: metals who are stripped with paint stripper but have to much details and small corners ect, could be boiled clean in a water/ dishwasher solution to get perfectly clean and degreased for painting.
    I remeber this from back in the 80,s at a bicycle factory when the basic bare metal frame whas coming out of the joint-hard-soldering side of the factory , then going in to the prep side (degreasing metal) before bonding and then spray painting the bike frame.

      @@forgottentoolsrestoration1786 I put little bits in my ultrasonic cleaner in a glass jar full of whatever liquid i need for the job, and immerse the jar in plain water in the ultrasonic bath. That way you don't waste a tub of cleaner solution each time and can change the type of cleaner fluid easily. It heats it up nicely too.
