      Oh wow Mike! So good to see you here on our channel. Can you tell us about the process of developing his snare? Were there any challenges creating it? Any interesting memories you have with Vinnie?

      @@EssexRecordingStudios No big challenges in the development of that snare. More creating a look and vibe that fit Vinnie. It is a great sounding and affordable snare. The reason there are 2 versions is because Vinnie picked two snake skin finishes and want two prototypes made so he could see them side by side. Once he made his decision we were off to manufacturing. His snare was our number 1 best seller that first year... Vinnie was a great guy to work with and the most hospitable artist ever. His door was always open and a drink was waiting for you. Sure do miss that guy and his whole crew... Dime, Guy Sykes, Kim Zide, Kat and Crusher were the best in the business.

      @@mikefarriss8044 Wow that is some epic insight you've given us. No surprise to hear it was a hot seller. It's a great looking snare for any metal player. Hopefully no letters from lawyers over those pointy bits...I could imagine corporate having some pause to going forward with those. How did licensing deals with artists work back then? I imagine it's hard to keep track of every unit produced and sold. Was it a flat fee to Vinnie, a flat price per unit produced or sold? Recall any numbers involved with the deal? Cheers man!

      @@mikefarriss8044 man that's so cool you got to head the task of making an industry standard snare drum that is still used today!!! I have that snake skin one and it's absolutely the best snare I've ever owned!! I was always curious and I could never find whether or not he used a 24 or 42 fat snare strand wire for his snare drums!! If this is truly his personal collection then after watching it appears the strands are the smaller ones!!! Honestly makes sense seeing how it would give more crack to it than a fatter snare strand.

    I have a ton of this stuff, I actually have all the original prototypes of these, all his original stage used Pearl hardware used on the last Pantera show in 2001, his last used cymbals, etc.

      @@EssexRecordingStudios it was me, and my friends stemm who opened for damage plan that night. After the show, I got invited on the bus by videobob and crew. I was chatting drums drinking BTGs. He said "hell friend, premier is garbage, I'll be sure you get a good snare tomorrow" that was that. Driving home I sat thinking "why me? I'm just friends with a band, a nobody. Maybe he was too wasted". Sure enough, guitar center on Niagara Blvd called the next morning. "Are you(name retracted)? You have an order ready for pickup"
      The envy from the drum techs 😆 🤣 name on account that placed the order: VP himself.

      Thanks Luigi! I personally don't think they even need to call it a "tribute"....I mean Megadeth has one original member in it. We don't call that a tribute band. I get people want to be sensitive to a degree, but I think it would be HUGE for the metal community to have Pantera back with Zakk writing new music. Every band that goes on for this long has lineup changes and style changes with the times, I don't see why Pantera shouldn't have the same opportunities as other legacy bands. It's not like any of us are ever going to forget Dime and Vinnie or think any less of their achievements

    You'd think vinny would have fitted die cast hoops with his signature 8x14, and used a thicker shell? and maybe use a controlled sound dot,or hi-energy aquarian for more crack and snap, either way they are awesome examples of his lifestyle/tastes and rock/roll attitude, i admit jealousy begins to start to boil over after every other drum is revealed,I also love the single bass pedal w/double chain and spitzer point heel plate crafted i imagine out of aircraft quality aluminum-I just realized the drum world has 2xVINNIES....Vinnie P. and Vinnie C.both loved and respected.

    Ah......You were the one that I was going back and forth with 3 or 4 of the snares and a few other items on auction day. Look man.... I'm sure you have a ton of money and love picking this stuff up. And I'm sure it's a write off for you.... But seriously for us poor people, Maybe leave some auction items for the rest of the world to enjoy. I'm sure you could have gotten by with one or 2 drums. But to grab everything while others from around the world who also loved Vinnie and (personally I idolized him) couldn't even get a small item Seems strange man. Am I bothered that I bid on atleast 5 items , watched and bid for about 8 hour's ( 5 of which happened after the auction was technically over) ...yep, You bet. He was my childhood idol as well as into my teens. I spent all my money in the 90s to get a set and play like him.
    I was stoked about this auction and was willing to give up a lot. I know how much you spent because I was the only other guy bidding against you on 3 or 4 of the snares and they weren't cheap. I was actually kind of hoping more people would get his items rather than one person. But hey that's just me coming from the other side of things. Good video..... Just wished other people would have gotten some of his legacy also. I'm sure the clicks will be money well spent.

    • @EssexRecordingStudios
      @EssexRecordingStudios  2 года назад +4

      Thanks for appreciating the video, and I totally understand how it feels to tap out in an auction and not get items you really want. I really wanted the Nirvana Neumann studio mic that was on Reverb as an auction a few years ago and was bidding back and forth with one guy and had to tap out. I was just going into the air force and had spent my money on getting a car when Dave Mustaine's Jacksons went up for sale on ebay back in like 2003. An engineer that worked at my studio took off with all of the snare drums here, so I needed to buy a bunch of snares to have a variety on hand for the artists that record here. This auction was the golden opportunity. Loads of fans bought stuff in this auction. Someone else got his Pantera toured drum kit. He had loads of guitars that went to other people. Someone else got his double kick pedal and his drum sticks and cymbals. There was a variety of fans who got drum stuff from this sale. I just committed (painfully to my finances) to the snares. Definitely not a write off for me. I learned a long time ago not to make assumptions about people's finances. I don't own a home for instance. I rent and it sucks. This studio and the gear is my home instead, and I make it available to anyone and everyone. Not everyone gets it, and that's totally fine. It's a long sad life if you spend it worrying about trying to make everyone on the Internet happy.

As you explained already, the artists get to use them and that's better than a rich horder lol. And more importantly enjoy the lot! My jealousy stops here. ;)
