The reason Philza never used a totem (and still doesn't) is simply because he thinks it makes hardcore mode lame to both play and watch and that it should be a challenge
It does invalidate the spirit of Hardcore, having 1 life and no second chances.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 also you are literally able to farm these
I think there was only a few times in his season 4 hardcore world where he has had a totem in his hand if it's super dangerous but never had to use it and doesn't have them often because he is already super careful
I mean, I see where he's coming from, I myself think totems in hardcore should be removed or heavily nerfed
Looks like the sweats got what they wanted no more totem farms.
Philza stays earning respect over the years for keeping up the most simple premise. No matter the current fad or number seeking trend, he’ll always be working on a mega build with the promise of zero totems of undying. Hats off to creators who do stuff for fun rather than just number ratios. Those are important, but not always what stays relevant o7
I'm with you. Philza is awesome
AMEN kyodai
He stays true to what Minecraft was designed for, not trying to saturate it with highly intriguing yet bland content. A DanTDM of the modern era if you will.
I unironically stan Phil
amen
I find a lot of the hardcore content hard to believe at times, it's far too easy to cheat in Minecraft, I wish Mojang could do something about it but it's just not possible.
I agree
Same
Or make hardcore actually harder, also
HI jera
Jerma
yea, thing is modding is way too massive in Java so even if Mojang tried to make it more obvious theyd just mod it out
I feel like if Totems did not drop in hardcore, that would make the game truly dangerous and great.
Indeed, if I remember correctly Philza has stated he dosnt keep a totem in his off hand because it would just ruin the point of hardcore, it wouldn’t end.
They could maybe be replaced with totems of death. Which instead of saving you can be used to deal large amounts of withering damage to a non-boss mob.
they should have a cooldown, like when you use ender pearls or eat chorus fruit. it could be 1 or 2 hours by default but changeable in gamerules.
You can just not have the totem in your inventory it is optional to pick up. Also even without totems villagers trading gives an unlimited source of diamond gear, enchanted books and food trades which is not too difficult to setup
@@ninjanovaguy8289 True, but at the same time why even make a hardocre mode in the first place if people can just delete the world after dying. Such modes exist so that self-imposed restrictions are not nescessary.

I remember a long time ago, CaptainSparklez made a 15-part Hardcore Minecraft series. In it, he built a house, explored the world, killed the dragon, and hung up his hat. It's stuck with me for how simple and real it was, and even despite the proliferation of insane builds and huge worlds, Hardcore always has meant what it did to me when those videos came out: a simple, heartfelt mode that makes everything more special because of how fleeting it is. Nothing lasts, not even your hardcore world. And there's beauty in that, there really is.
jordan really inspired me with those videos.
Reminds me of Unus Annus.
Philza dying to a baby zombie and a spider is still the worst and saddest death in hardcore Minecraft I have seen...
But it's relatable. You can survive all types of crazy shit and bam, you die to something mundane. I had a lot of close calls during battles raiding ocean monuments, but my most common deaths are from falling
Bruh, baby zombies are way too fast.. And this one had the drip!
I would die from it too

Cringygull is great

Ngl when you mentioned the hermits at the end I went AYEEE :D Grian Scar and Joel's 100 days of Hardcore was fun and really didn't take itself seriously at all, which is always appreciated. That series is perfect for people who don't care about hardcore otherwise, me included.
Also idk why the fandom dubbed them the divorce trio but there's that ig.
Yes. or the life series. last life, double life etc. They are so funny.
And it was in one world with multipul hermits.
I guess this came up in my feed because of how long I've been in Phil's community and I have never really branched out into other HC other then SB, I remember so vividly finding Phil's videos through MCM and Techno and just falling in love with how chill his streams are, and at this point I've been a T2 for almost 5 years (Which is a number I will never warp my mind around), I saw another video talking about the rise in HC videos and them being surprised that Phil was the catalyst (pretty sure it was an SB vid now that I'm thinking about it) but I honestly dont think the genre would exist in its current form without that fucking baby zombie/spider
haha 5 years, soon your T2 will have lasted longer than philza's hardcore world.
What I love about LTN is that he doesn’t 1-up himself, he just plays and enjoys the game in different ways.

Philza losing his 5 year hardcore world and making the news is what revitalized interest in Minecraft as a game and started its renaissance. That's why he's called "Philza Minecraft, Creator of Minecraft" because he made the game what it is today
That's a fair point
It's one of a number of factors, you also had Pewdiepie getting back into Minecraft and MC mondays.

It’s really interesting watching these genre recap videos if you will
Because you can tell who the creator is close to or a fan of based on which channels they mention or emphasize
It’s still cool to learn about new channels from a different perspective
It’s just interesting that some huge channels to you might not even be mentioned while they might mention huge channels you’ve never even heard of
The internet is an absolutely massive place, and it’s really neat how differently so many people can experience such a shared game like Minecraft

Forge labs is a silly guy as well, why is nobody calling out that he doesn't even play on hardcore he just has a mod that gives you hardcore hearts, and there are a lot of cuts in his videos, and he has opened chat once and you could see that he used creative mode, also in a lot of his vids he dies ON screen and then claims it " isn't fair" and responds
Mild correction: LTN started as a Halo RUclipsr before going to fortnite. Same with Forge Labs. Both started with Halo. Both moved to minecraft. Both known for minecraft
I'm from the Spanish community and I'm surprised that people haven't done the permadeath formula in the English community, permadeath is a smp but hardcore and it works for streaming and having a lot of players interacting plus that if someone dies is actually sad.
The original permadeath was simple smp hardcore but now in the Spanish community we have servers that every week there is a difficulty increase like totems stop working or eneder creppers that teleport etc...
And there is a gulac so people can revive in competition, I think the idea could work really well in the English community
I think it's because there's no English content creator who has a big team dedicated to creating huge events like permadeath or minecraft extremo, the only big event I know of is MCC but it doesn't compare to the amount of events and projects we get on the Spanish side.
I’ve never heard of this, but this is such a cool concept! I’m not surprised that this is not a thing in the English community though, most popular creators who would give the server attention and make it fun suck at playing Minecraft and mostly use it as a platform for comedy. Mini games take their place, but even then there’s not that many good English players and they recruit players from other countries haha. I do think it would be enjoyable though, I should find a summary video on one of these servers and try to translate it!
I know the group "Salt Raiders" have done minecraft with that concept before.
I've never seen a youtuber with a college sponsorship LMAOOO
Ngl, unless somebody else had beaten Philza’s record without any totems, then Philza should still hold the record

I think you should take a look at the life series, which includes 3rd life, last life, double life, limited life, and the most certain one: secret life. It's like a hardcore series, but each member plays in 3 (i think) hour sessions each week. Everyone has 3 (sometimes more) life, and when on the last life they are allowed to killed until one remains... It's actually more of a death game, but it's really fun to watch.

I did like the Hardcore trend originally, so much so I started my own HC world that's gone on for 800+ in game days. Good video about recapping this trend, good production quality. I do think Minecraft content as a whole needs to take a break for a minute since the supply has exceeded the demand, and a correction is coming, but it'll eventually come back as Minecraft always stubbornly does. Gonna make a quick correction about Luke the Notable, he did not get his start with Fortnite (although it catapulted his popularity) but rather Halo content, I remembered his lore videos being really good. Anyway, I liked your video, glad you came into my recommended.

One way they could fix hardcore is to eliminate totems of undying in that game mode. Because hardcore isn't really hardcore if you can't die.
Hardcore? More like ‘who has the best raid farm!’
Jokes aside, I think that the removal of totems, or at the very least removing them from raids would fix a lot of issues with this. You never watch hardcore videos anymore for the excitement or suspense, but more of what the creator will do in their glorified creative mode state.
Without totems, the threat of death is always there, even if you have super OP armour. That way, players would have to take extra caution and not throw themselves around with little to no care due to the lack of a safety net.
There’s a really easy solution to this
Just don’t use them.
@@comediccomrade5716easy in theory but not in application, since a lot of youtuber's who do hardcore minecraft aim to do the most, seeing who can do the biggest and craziest projects out there, so ofc they would want to use a totem, yk?
