I sincerely appreciate your videos. I am a transferred Fine art student from Graphics so struggled to paint with oil, as I have never experienced, only acrylic. Since I have found these resources, I feel more confident and calm. It makes me observe objects and focus on "colour value" so that I paint some on canvas step by step. Again, Thank you very much indeed!
I am amazed at how many colours went into this fabric, which appears to have only a few! Very educational. I also appreciate how you depicted all those tiny rumples in the fabric without obsessing over them with a tiny brush.
What's up with all the haters around here? Ignorant people are so annoying. Anyway, as always this was an awesome lesson Mr. Carder, the people that are actually into painting value your contribution to the painting world a whole lot, teaching has such a big impact because you teach your techniques to the next generation and improve painting as a whole. You are making history since there has been no time like this in which one can go to the internet to take a free lesson by a world class artist. Imagine the impact you are having on great artist that wouldnt have the opportunity to learn this kind of technique.
Really amaziing technique for painting fabric. Not many videos that I know if explain this or show it like you have. Wonderful. Really authentic and painterly.
I just watched this video for the second time, the first was a couple years ago. As always, there are new techniques to learn and I throughly enjoyed watching it again, especially now because my next painting has lots of clothing in it. Thank you Mark!
I learn from you best when I see you paint live, with explanation. Thank you for this. I do enjoy your verbal theory, but the visual really seals the deal. Great fabric video.
I think you have discovered the right algorithm for painting like the masters such that the paintings _look and feel_ like classic pieces. Well done for that, and the paints seem like something i might invest in.
I was over blending before I used your color match tool. Because the object was round I blended gradually from dark to light when it changes much faster. Thank you. I highly recommend your very high quality paint. I got them in the mail in great condition. Thanks again.
I am mesmerized as I watch you bring this painting to life. It's truly incredible. I'm only 25 minutes into the vid but had to stop to be sure I thanked you for pointing out important things like keeping it abstract, I totally get that....I have to remember that when painting things like clouds otherwise they all end up looking like twins.... etc. Ok. I'm off to continue watching. Thank you for sharing you knowledge and talent.
"Which is more subtle"...definitely THE question! Your videos have made a massive difference in my work, bringing it to the next level, FINALLY allowing me to paint high realism and enjoy the medium rather than fight with it. LOVE painting on the neutral Geneva canvas stain too. Thank you Mark. Much Love from New Mexico USA.
I am using only Your teaching at the moment . You are really such a good teacher . I am so happy to have found you on RUclips . Greetings from Poland .I did furniture design in Tasmania University of arts .but not paintings :)
Love the new video! It has a great discussion about the how's and why's. Today I will be painting fabric so it's very timely to remind me to keep the texture. Thank you so much for your wisdom and helping out the community of artists that are starting out and those that are looking for "gems" to keep them on track.
I sometimes mix my paint on another pallet when I want a healthy amount of the mix, then I transfer it to my larger pallet for my initial paint set-up. Your work is amazing.
Well done instruction and good comments. Your remarks about the abstraction of the painterly brushstrokes accentuate your message about blending. The tiny abstractions of marks that represent reflections can be easily lost in the painting process but with careful preservation as the painting progresses they are what make the painting lively and interesting which the viewer's eye appreciates I believe. Thank you for an excellent lesson.
Thank you for this. Seeing this makes me feel more confident that I can tackle painting fabric in the future. To suggest a future video, I’d like to see something on brush types and how to effectively use them for various situations, if possible.
I painted my first shirt today while listening to your video. I used acrylic so I had to blend quickly after applying but a lot of your tips were super helpful :)
Mark thank you for saying how long this painting took you and think it speaks to that talent discussion, I have people saying my work looks fantastic. the question that comes after that is how long did that take. And I can see the spark in their eyes begin to fade when they hear it takes a long time. Talent really is just passion and effort. Somehow people get disillusioned when they find out these works take time. They were more impressed when they thought it took 20 minutes. I now don't care if impresses them or not.
That's so beautiful. I love it! I work with all things textile, from sewing and quilting to fiber arts - knitting, crochet, spinning and weaving, etc., as well as with acrylic and watercolor painting, monotypes, etc. Textiles are super-important to me and you capture them so beautifully in oil! That's one of the mediums I am still shying away from, due to an extreme lack of studio space. When I do have the room, I will look into your oil paints and other products because of their non-toxicity. Thank you!
Thank you! So well done! I don't work in oil, I'm a pastel artist, but this is still quite valuable as pastellists work in somewhat the same manner. I've enjoyed all of your videos!
Thank you so much for this very very resourceful video! You helped me elevate my oil painting so much! 😍💕 I’m so grateful for all the commentary it’s very thorough 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Is your primer water based? How many coats of primer do you use? If you want a different base color can you use your paint to tint it? Fantastic video again. Thank you.
As always, your classes are great, I'm waiting for your posts, to study them. Mark, you really are a great artist and master too. Very grateful for this very important painting tutorial.
And great tips all the way rhrough and I loved especially the very last “ always in the end of the painting check the crisp blacks , the black blacks , and if necessary go in again” 🎵🖤🎶
OMG this video is so darn helpful. Thank you so much. I've been having so much trouble with fabric, it's so irritating to paint, just never comes out right. I'm definitely going to try it with this method the next time.
Your videos have helped me tremendously as a new painter. I would never have thought to paint this way but it’s so much easier. My problem is “seeing’ the different colors and matching them. Any recommendations on how to pick out colors and correct shades? Thank you!!!
