Actually both Alan and James like excited school boys! Lovely to see. The look of delight on James face at 19:15 when David said "that's a really good point" 😁
Well, that was absolutely fabulous. I could listen to 5 hours of that. Hopefully, Celtic do really well in Europe this season, that could be the incentive to push on with improvements across the whole club.
You’re welcome, Alan. I see Engels is in the Belgian squad and, the German coach is talking about Kühn, that serves as a nice ‘pathway’ for up-and-coming European starlets. All is rosy in the garden.
That was a great listen. Thanks a lot. I wondered if there were any tactical events you could get members to look out for in our next game? Eg Casper's distribution. And then refer to it during your next pod.
With the new CL format running well past Christmas for us it should help focus on that Hopefully we strengthen again in January and keep getting some luck Great show Could have listened to the chat for hours
I know you will agree that both the theory & practice of football ''mathematics & analytics'' is quintessentially all about not having ANY kind of dependency on ''hope and/or luck'' or the fact that ''we are long overdue a wee run in Europe'' & so '' here's hoping it's this season'' etc etc etc & so in that context & ''context is everything'' as dear old Alan so rightly constantly reminds us, when it comes to this coming January transfer window, it really should be a given that Rodgers et al, already have proper & serious ''targets'' for this particular transfer window & no matter that save for an isolated exception or two, historically we have consistently done our very worst business at this time.....
@@frankbrennan1619 - Hi Frank, Rogers said on an Interview back in August - post window,,,, work had started on January signings, we shall see, i hope we have a clear out and get some good work done. Our stock is high, I'm sure there will be some talent out there on benches that could step in - fingers crossed, no matter what we will need a rub of the green along with our new found relative success in Europe. I was at the Leipzig game and think we were lucky not to go two down, could have been a different game, one of my favorite nights, i was at Blackburn away when we put Sourness back in his box, that was good LOL ........................
Gavin Strachan at some level is using analytics on some level pitch side with Celtic.I assume he is using the Fitbit data to profile the sports science metrics of the players to measure physical performance. Not sure if we are using ai based systems as yet. Now, for me integrating multiple datasets from different disciplines will be key to optimized decisions on Scouting, injury management and in game performance will be important soon. But then we will need detailed machine learning models for optimizing set pieces and passing styles depending on an opponent analytics. In future we may need models that also input opponent datasets into the model.
I just get really excited and thought I had found a new model of data analytics, genuinely, and went searching for it. Maxhine is not a new form of AI machine learning, it seems . 😄😁🤣😂😅
@@ajsctech8249 I agree with what you say and would also add that some sociological/psychological elements need to be added to get the "x factor" out of players and the team. Not everything can be reduced to numbers.
@@johnoneill8211 Agree. Such a dataset on players personality and personal life could only reliably be collected with questionnaires that club would then store in a databases, but only works if that dataset was collected by all clubs. But this is dataset might never be possibles or accessible when buying a potential player which is why human judgement on recruitment is still important. that said, you wouldn't want difficult personality traits and backgrounds to stop a transfe then we then risk missing out on incredibl talent like edouard for example. It may be that clubs could send a personality questionaires to all prospective signings to combine that with their performance data, but we also need human judgement along side broader datasets
@@johnoneill8211 I've repeatedly said & say again now, that I don't trust our current Manager on too much, but where I do completely trust him is on his most rightful loathing & revulsion of ''a poor attitude'' & particularly when it comes to young, inexperienced, not regular First Team squad players & no matter how talented they are, so if you do have that loathsome & repulsive ''poor attitude'' then for sure with our current Manager, there is completely no place for you at Celtic Park & as so demonstrably evidenced this season with the departures of Vata, Lawal & Kelly & so can it be this ''poor attitude'' be formally analysed & assessed in some ''sociological & psychological'' framework?
Who in our club has the ambition to be "Better than Benfica"? Periodically, when we are dominating the domestic scene, our horizons look towards Europe and ask, "Why are we not doing better in Europe?" The question is a kind of curiosity. If we were getting beaten by Rangers then the same question would be asked in outrage and calls for the Board to resign. How often have you heard supporters say words to the effect "Ah wish the European stuff was over so that we can concentrate on the serious domestic league stuff."
I can honestly say that when our bitterest rivals were playing their domestic fitba in the deepest depths of Scottish mediocrity, I just didn't miss the Glasgow derbies that now couldn't take place as a consequence of their much deserved liquidation & never mind us not doing too much in Europe during this time, more alarmingly, we never won a single, solitary domestic Treble when our bitterest rivals were nowhere around when Deila & Lennon were at the helm & most sadly in the here & now of 2024 & beyond, there is NO ''serious domestic league stuff'' from our point of view, since the ONLY ''opposition'' we face week after week, season after season, is dross & complete dross & just maybe have '' a wee run in Europe''
@@johnoneill8211 The sheep worriers will overall flatter to deceive but for sure, Thelin has them punching way above their weight & near enough right from the get go this season & when dear old Alan was restrainfuly talking aboot '' it's only four games in'' I wis already saying that the dross & the complete dross we face week after week, season after season, have got even worse this season if that's possible & so much so, Rodgers should, for sure, be ONLY delivering of us yet another domestic Treble & with the First Leg of that to be decided on 15th December & indeed I would most vehemently argue Rodgers should ONLY be delivering of us his second Invincibles' season to emulate that of 2016 - 2017.
James - didn’t know your mum came from Clydebank 😮. I guess you never got to sample the joys of the ‘Aberdeen End’ at Clydebank’s Kilbowie ground (watching the game for free from nearby Argyll Road).
Hello John- only made 3 trips over as a kid and one was when I was 9 months old. Think we went to a Clydebank game when I was 5 but not positive that was the ground. My grandfather was in one of the house bands at the Seven Seas (now Chandlers) and mom's cousins ran the barber shop around the corner for many years.
James, I really enjoyed your introduction of David but I can't believe you missed the opportunity to describe him as the Patches O'Houlihan to The Huddle Breakdown's very own Dodgeball team.
Interesting discussion indeed but are we absolutely sure that the coaches at the club don't already conduct this sort of analytical research even if only in an unofficial capacity? The main factor for me is that we are dealing with fallible human beings here and that they all need to be trained to be aware of the roles of their teammates and act accordingly. I recently mentioned Kyogo's intelligent 'off the ball' movements. How many times have we seen the wee man darting into a space which is crying out for the ball to be swiftly passed into it only for his teammates not to notice or, worse, prefer to take the easy option of just passing sideways or backwards to a nearby teammate.? However all this analytical research is essential for discovering strengths and weaknesses in any team which may not be immediately apparent to most fans and even coaches. I am actually optimistic about the future because Ive never known our club so united from chairman to coach to captain all determined to progress especially in Europe. The players on the pitch have clearly bought into the club aims. Further modernisation is promised and the bank balance has never been healthier and set to increase. Happy days .. so let's enjoy them, boring but essential analytics and all!😁
Analytics can be a basis but who will be feeding the algorithm? If it is all AI then obviously players will be discovered by all clubs. it’s. still how the players play in a team together. And you still want to see good football. Nobody will pay or watch long ball, whether u win or not
You can see that James is talking to his hero 🥰😍❤️

Not sure Alan was too enthusiastic about being included in James’s full throttle self-deprecation in thé intro 😂

James Garfield story: At Charles Guiteau's trial, he argued "It was the doctor's who killed him, I just shot him".
Brilliant
I would play the Subbuteo/ Dungeons and Dragons crossover game. Get some funding and get it on the market. 😁
that's the innovation we need!
How can you move to Scotland at 10 months old and grow up with an English accent?
His parents
Is James actually star struck? 😊
David Murray had a vision to do wonders in Europe, enough said.
Subbuteo...a blast from the past..! Still have the France 98 box set in the loft 😂
get it out and start playing!
we should be doing this for the good of the club
I just love how you've reduced it all down to one word.....
Arigato!
Oh right, and i use American 'z' in 'optimize' instead of an English 's' because prefer it.
