Rush are from Toronto, Canada. Formed in 1968, first album released in 1974. Nineteen studio albums, 40 year career. One of the best bands of all time.
I was a sophomore in high school the first time I saw Rush. It was on Sept 14, 1980 their Moving Pictures Tour. The guys would've been around 28-30 yrs old. They were at the top of their games and this concert was FIRE!! I spent $7.50 on my general admission ticket and $20 for a t-shirt. I still have my ticket stub that I keep in my Moving Pictures CD case. I feel so lucky to have seen them....and people wonder why I drive around with my music blasting. It's because I grew up in an era with the best music ever made (and I had 5 older siblings so I was listening to their 60s music too).
Three piece band. All of them are widely considered virtuosos. Top shelf talent. Their immense catalog is worth diving into the rabbit hole. Geddy's bass is a Fender Jazz Bass. I have one and it is an excellent instrument and the one I play most often.
Rush are from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 YYZ is the indicator code for the Toronto International Airport Geddy Lee is playing a bass guitar and also the synth not a piano. There were 40,000 people at this concert in Rio and yes Rio is in Brazil. Rush are much bigger than you think LOL All the members in the band started playing instruments when the were 13. The band had a 45 year career. If this inspires you to start playing an instrument that is fantastic! Other Songs Xanadu from Exit Stage Left Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour Caravan from the Time Machine Tour Natural Science from the Molson Amphitheatre Toronto Cheers and have a great day 🇨🇦
The guy with the long hair is Geddy Lee, he's the lead singer and one of the best bass players on the planet. The blonde guy is Alex Lifeson, he sings backup sometimes and is one of the best guitarists on the planet and the guy behind the drums is Neil Peart, he writes their lyrics and is the greatest drummer to ever pick up a set of sticks imo. Together they were the greatest power trio and live performers to ever grace a concert stage and they did it from their teens into their 60's.
Best Live Performance RUSH - Xanadu - Live In Montreal 1981 (2021 HD Remaster 60fps) Alex Lifeson - 6 string guitar, 12 string guitar, pedal synthesizer, volume pedal; Geddy Lee - Vocals, bass guitar, 6 string guitar, foot pedal synthesizer, electric piano/synthesizer; Neil Peart - Lyrics, Drums, orchestra bells, tubular bells, wind chimes, crotales, timbales, timpani, gong, temple blocks, bell tree, triangle, and melodic cowbells. Based on Kubla Khan (Xanadu) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge Coleridge composed his poem, ‘Kubla Khan’, in a state of semi-conscious trance either in the autumn of 1797 or the spring of 1798 and published in 1816. The whole poem is pervaded by an atmosphere of dream and remains in the form of a vision. The vision embodied in Kubla Khan was inspired by the perusal of the travel book, Purchas His Pilgrimage. Coleridge had taken a dose of opium as an anodyne, and his eyes closed upon the line in the book, “At Zanadu Kubla Khan built a pleasure palace.” But this opened his creative vision, and the poem of about 200 lines was composed in this state of waking dream. On being fully awake, he wrote the poem down. The theme of the poem is unimportant. It describes the palace built by Kubla Khan, the grandson of Chengis Khan, the great rule of central Asia. ruclips.net/video/2byjJkN_nVY/видео.html
I live in YYZ! Rush are amazing. Also, since you're reacting to songs in the 'prog' world, you'll get a great reaction from Yes - Roundabout. 🔥 You need to discover that band if you're digging Rush.
This was recorded on the final night of their 2002 tour supporting the release of the album Vapor Trails. It was in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil at Maracana Stadium with 40,000 or so in attendance. The crowd that night was second only to the crowd of 60,000 at the show in Sao Paulo the previous night. To many top tier bands a crowds of 40,000 or 60,000 are fairly typical, but these were the largest crowds Rush had ever performed in front of. In fact in his book "Ghost Rider: Travels On The Healing Road" Neil Peart states that their largest crowd up to that point had been at The Gorge Amphitheater along the Columbia river near the town of George in central Washington state. Yeah there really is a town called George, Washington 💯😊 That was on their 1997 Test For Echo tour - which my wife I were in attendance for, btw🤘 - with a sold out crowd of just over 20,000. In 2011 we took our kids to see Rush at The Gorge for the final night of the 2011 Time Machine tour. That was a magical night as my wife, our kids and I experienced the sun setting behind our favourite band and nature's light show gives way the band's about an hour or show into the show. I have been a fan of Rush since 1975 - "the olden days" as our kids call it - I introduced my then girlfriend to Rush and she became as enthralled as I has been. She even created a beautiful calligraphic poster of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem "Kubla Kahn", the work that inspired the Rush song "Xanadu", and gave it to me as a birthday present. I knew I had to marry this girl, LOL💯🤣🤣. Rush is one of the most influential bands of the last 50 years. Each member is an absolute virtuoso at their respective instruments with Neil (RIP) and Geddy often cited as the G.O.A.T. of rhythm sections as well. Personally I think that Alex "Lerxst" Lifeson gets overlooked in those discussions. To that point I would offer the song "La Villa Strangiato" from their 1978 album Hemispheres. It is an instrumental inspired by a recurring nightmare that Alex had been having (really true). If you are really interested in exploring the Rush rabbit hole then I have some suggestions to get you started: "Fly By Night" "Bastille Day" "A Passage To Bangkok" (Yeah, it's exactly what it sounds like it's about) "Cinderella Man" - a "deep cut" written by Geddy. Inspired by the classic 1930's Gary Cooper film "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town" "The Spirit Of Radio" "Entre Nous" (French for "between us" it's one of the first songs my wife and I considered "ours".) "Time Stand Still" (Ft. Aimee Mann of the band Til Tuesday) "Closer To The Heart" "Subdivisions" "Witch Hunt (Pt III of Fear)" - "The Weapon (Part II of Fear)" - "The Enemy Within (Pt. I of Fear) - "Freeze" (Pt. IV of Fear)" These were released in reverse order (except "Freeze") and should be taken in the order in which I have listed them. "Distant Early Warning" "Territories" "Emotion Detector" "Prime Mover" ("Anything can happen!") Like I said, that'll get you started. There's plenty more where that came from. In the video you can clearly hear the voices of 40,000 Rush fans SINGING ALONG with an instrumental. I can honestly tell you that in onver 50 years of attending concerts (I'm an auld Scotsman} it is only at Rush shows that I have heard a crowd singing an instrumental.
We always went nuts at the Rush concerts....the band is hype.....we were matching that level. Some of the best concerts I have ever attended. And yes...they are WAY bigger than you ever knew. Rush was one of the biggest bands out there. Three world class musicians creating more music than three people ought to. You know its nuts when we were singing the song with no words. The next video should be "Neil Peart Drum Solo - Rush Live in Frankfurt". He is a master percussionist.
I was there... 80000 people in the biggest soccer stadium of the world, singing unison an instrumental song !! 😌😌 Rush was HuuGE by that time around the world ( only in America they were not known... PS: Brazilians are Koool! You would like Brazil ! 😊👍
Since you like the keyboards, I suggest checking out their live version of 'Analog Kid' from the Clockwork Angels tour. In the 80s, Rush had a "keyboard era' where they used a lot of keyboards and synths in their music. I feel 'Analog Kid' is one of their best songs, and the 'wall of sound' synth part in that song is one of my favorite musical moments.
Geddy & Alex played a kick-ass version of this a few months ago at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute show with Danny Carey filling in for the late great Neil Peart. At nearly 70 years old and despite not playing together for 7 years they put down Working Man (check out the amazing Cleveland performance) and part of 2112 which mandatory listening.
Rush is World Class.. Vast catalogue but check: "La Villa Strangiato".. "Cinderella Man".. "Xanadu".. "Trees".. "Best I Can".. "Freewill".. "Tom Sawyer".. "2112".. "Natural Science".. "Anthem" and you may have heard "Closer to the Heart".. Greta reaction
While you're checking out Xanadu from Exit Stage Left, also be sure to check out Freewill and ByTor and the SnowDog/In The End/In The Mood/2112 Grand Finale from the same show. Cheers from Canada! 🇨🇦 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Rush could pull 40K in attendance in any city over a million. That's why they are who they are! The live shows are just great rock shows with a bunch of cool people.

THE best band EVER!
The singer, Geddy, is the singer + the bass player + the keyboardist... he does it all.
It's a HUGE crowd & they're all singing along to a song that has NO lyrics. Gives me chills every time 🥴
Geddy Lee is playing his own signature bass. A Fender Jazz bass. And they from Canada and they are HUGE!

The Rio crowd is usually like that but this was their first time ever playing in Rio. They were extra hyped.
They played 3 nights and that night was 90,000
