    I have a little wooden jewelry box. I got it from micheals and painted it. At first I had a jar with things that represented the elements, but I’ve been trying to get into this more lately. I now have jars that represent the different deities I’m interested in working with. They are quite small, but I think it’s fun to get creative to see what works on a super small level.

    Since im going over my overly Christian grandmother's house for a month, im trying to figure out how to make travel alters. However, as you've mentioned there are e-shrines. I already have Pinterest boards dedicated to the Theoi, so ig I could practice my devotion there.🥰 amazing video btw, can't wait to see what you do in the future. May the gods bless you

      Thank you! And may they bless you, too 😊 when I had a permanent travel altar, I kept it in a makeup bag in one of my drawers. You can go even smaller with an Altoid/candy tin. E-shrines are also so creative and helpful in place it's not safe to practice. Any video game you can build things in works wonderful, but something as simple as Pinterest or tumblr works great, too. 💛🌿 the gods meet us where we're at and I'm sure they'll appreciate pinterest boards you make for them

    I'm all over the place when it comes to altar and shrine spaces lol. I have a physical shrine in my bedroom, and a small altar as well. But I'm a big fan of travel shrines when visiting family, and e-shrines for when my health is more poor.
    Annnddd worshiping Hephaestus so heavily, I take every opportunity to build shrines and altars within games! Minecraft, terraria, and animal crossing are the biggest, with the first featuring a couple of huge marble temples and a proper temenos. Although I never knew 'temenos' was a word so I'm excited to have an actual term for something I've incorporated into my worship!

      Some people will burn or "offer" the items and food you can make in minecraft by meditating on it and offering it while in the game. Pixels are technically rooted in the physical world. You could also always offer something simple like water in real life while playing minecraft

    Interesting video! I appreciated the Assasin's Creed tour. I live in Southeast Asia, and what really struck me as you were running around the virtual Temple grounds was how much the basic structure and organization of the grounds, the shrines, the main temple, etc. reminded me of being in a Buddhist temple complex in Thailand. I feel like I've walked through that exact temple, just with statues of Buddha instead of Zeus. Very cool.

      @@FeltheBlithe it is the modern, but most new age hellenic recon groups use modern such as labrys hellas etc. I would say that pronunciation is super important (for me at least) it feels more real to me because if we are being honest the ancient greeks nor modern used american english pronunciation. Like in Ηρα (hera) is pronounced ee-rah. Ζεύς (zeus) is pronounced zefs. Ποσειδώνας (Poseidon) is pronounced posei-thon-as. The δ makes an soft th sound like in the. • @FeltheBlithe
      @FeltheBlithe  3 года назад +8

      That's fair! I personally tend to do a dance between reconstructed ancient pronunciation and English (in IPA, from what I have heard argued, the pronunciation of theoi is /tʰe.ǒi̯/ in the 5th century BCE Attic dialect.) I think things can tend to get very into the weeds and important details get lost in regards to pronunciation of things, people either tend to be in two camps of using either attempted reconstructed Attic dialect or modern Greek, both have pros and both have cons, use of them is a matter of personal choice. Then things are extra complicated especially considering regional accents are (and have always been) a thing and that there are just certain sounds that my American English speaking tongue cannot make

    I am moving to a small apartment and will have limited space, what do you think about combined altars for multiple gods? I get the feeling that there may be certain gods who would prefer not to share sacred spaces (perhaps Hera would not want to share an altar with Dionysus and Herakles) but perhaps it wouldn't be an issue at all.

    • @FeltheBlithe
      @FeltheBlithe  3 года назад +3

      I think that's something that might be best to pray on or do divination around, each of our relationships with deities is difference as are our situations. As I mentioned in this video, I have one "working altar", so there are many deities I don't have shrines to and I will offer to them there instead with an image that represents them, just making sure to cleanse it between uses. Altar sharing is seen with certain deities that are often paired Zeus-Hera, Apollo-Hyakinthos, Achilles-Patroclus, Demeter-Kore, etc, etc. Perhaps you might also pair some that have related domains (Aphrodite-Poseidon-Thetis for the sea as an example).
      Personally, I would prioritize one generic altar over many personalized ones. You could always have a personalized altar in a shoebox that you place on your main working space when working with that particular deity. But again, I think mulling over some of these ideas and then seeing what fits for you and your practice will get you the best conclusion. I hope this wasn't too rambly and gave you some ideas!

    Now, before anything I'd like to know your perspectives on ancient polytheism, without being seem cheeky or rude, but purely out of curiosity. You know that our way of viewing life, divinity and others is still very much based on Christianity with the idea of "the true one" with a sense of purpose, but what people believing in ancient polytheism seem to fail to explain, what do you get out of it?
    So my question would be in two points:
    1. Is it made up? Or is it something real? Abrahamic religions have been very good at making mankind feel they are in the real one, and that the rest is just false. If polytheism based on ancient are to flourish I think they will have to address this point. How can you tell if the Gods are real or not?
    2. what is the paradigm and purpose of modern/revival polytheists? The muslims have one, and so the chritians have one too, but you guys? How will this religion make mankind better? What do you believe to be the paradigm you try to create or recreate?
    I have long thought on ancient religions of the Mediterranean world, I am from France so we used to be "pagans" and I see that more and more people seem to be interested in it again after centuries. Interesting but like I said it feels....a bit empty yet, a bit made up with no clear view on how the world will be better off if we all become again polytheist. Sorry a bit long, but I am looking forward to hear your reply :) :)
    Have an awesome weekend!

      Hi! There's a lot to unpack here and I don't think I have time or the space to get to all of that within a RUclips comment. I view spirituality as intensely personal and I would argue that even the big Abrahamic religions do not have a unified paradigm-see: constant Christian infighting since its inception. I also do not think that the state or dominant religion is ever the answer, state religions are inherently misused for political gains, we saw this all throughout the ancient world with Hellenism.
      In terms of the "realness" of gods, that's an entire massive philosophical question people have wrestled with since the dawn of religion. It also gets into the conversation of hard vs soft polytheism. That's not something I can answer for you, especially not something so complex in as small a space as a RUclips comment. These questions are so important to ask! Questions and doubts are the basis of mysticism and ultimately we must seek the answers ourselves. 🌿

      @@FeltheBlithe I appreciate your answer thank you, I am asking for the simple reason that I too is into a form of Hellenism polytheist, but not as defined and reconstruct as the reconstructionist. As we live (still) in Judaeo-Christian paradigm, for what I see, none of the polytheists I know actually could clarify the "realness" of multiple gods. I guess this is why, and the only reason why Christianity "won" over the "pagans" of the time. And I feel the people is ready to embrace polytheism as it does fit human nature better but feel really confused from a lack of guidance and clarity.
      I am looking forward to see more of your videos, it's amazing that polytheism in the West is resurgent (myself included). :)

    I'm an experienced practitioner, but I still need guidance. It isn't shameful to admit that.
    I have a problem. I broke an oath, not to the Theoi, but a broken oath is not some I want attached to me. I'm trying to atone, but I don't know how.

    • @FeltheBlithe
      @FeltheBlithe  3 года назад +3

      I think the solution is something that is best discovered using divination and prayer. If it is a mundane oath, I think this is a different scenario. I think the how the oath took place (formally sworn by calling in spiritual witnesses vs a simple verbal swear) can inform how to then be absolved of it. A Hellenic oath will look different than, say, a Wiccan one

      @@FeltheBlithe it was to the US Military. A pretty important oath...

    • @FeltheBlithe
      @FeltheBlithe  3 года назад +3

      I think, as I said, is best divined and prayed over cause every oath is different and every reason for breaking am oath is different. I technically broke an oath I made to a toxic church, but I broke it to keep myself safe and sane. We break oaths for reason and that reason should be examined, there is not always atonement needed.

    Hi, I was wondering if I could get your opinion! I worship Persephone as a kthonic deity, and other deities who aren't khthonic. From a recon standpoint, it'd be best to have separate altars for them/to worship them separately, right? I've been worshipping them together but my brain doesn't like to work so I literally only just realized it might be best to do otherwise 😅

    • @FeltheBlithe

      I personally think it's important to keep ouranic and khthonic separated, even if just through a divider. but ultimately it's up to you and your relationship with the gods

    Would it be counterintuitive to have a shared altar between two similar gods from different pantheons? Such as Thoth & Hermes or Anubis & Hades. Or should I just pick one pantheon over another? I really like both Hermes & Thoth for their differences as much as I do their similarities.

    • @FeltheBlithe
      @FeltheBlithe  2 года назад +1

      Hermes and Thoth were syncretized historically! You definitely don't have to pick one pantheon over the other. As for sharing altar space, that depends on your approach. Some people choose to keep their pantheons very separate, some choose to syncretize them (blend them into a conjoined tradition).
