  • When replacing a power window motor on a newer cable style regulator you should NOT let the cable wheel get out of the transmission housing. We are all human though so this video shows you what to do if you make this mistake. This video is universal and applies to any make, model or year with a cable style window regulator and power window motor.

Watching this after just spending six hours replacing a broken cable on my 2008 VW Fox with a repair cable kit. Tricky, fiddly job doing these. The video is very helpful for guys like me. I could not justify paying a garage hundreds of pounds doing the repair who would want to replace the whole complete unit.

1AAuto! Thank you, thank you. 11 years later this saved me time and money today. I missed the part in the other video where you said, “don’t let the cable come out of the spool”. I didn’t recognize the cam on the upper right. Lifesaver x100 Or I would have had to buy a whole new regulator.

Attempting this on an unwound power regulator cable on an 04 f150. I watched the video on removing the door panel and it couldn't have gone smoother thanks to you guys 😁 The cable itself looks good if a bit dry and the motor sounds good so fingers crossed I can get it working again. Something apparently got knocked loose or off track when I was checking fuses in the cab. I finished up and closed the door like it was my own truck. Few hours later the window was halfway down. Didn't even have a battery hooked up to it for a week while we were doing maintenance under the truck.

Thank you so much for taking the time that you do to help as many people as you do by posting these videos! I've been telling everyone about you guys!... I am a female and my daughter & I were able to save a lot of money by watching your videos and doing work on my Tahoe ourselves. This video saved my butt after I accidentally let go of the wheel while removing the window motor. We were so proud of ourselves after we then watched this video and managed to fix "my" mistake! Thanks again 1aauto!!

I just replaced both of my front window regulators. Easily the most difficult part of the job was getting the door panels back on the doors. It took me 2 days to get one back on. Then I found the door speaker was not working, so I had to take it off again. After installing a new speaker connector and re-installing the door panel, I found the window would only go up and down very slowly. So off the door panel came again. Took me a week altogether to do both doors. The windows still don't go up and down as fast as I would like.

Great video that explains how power windows work inside the door. On my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, I hear a relay click sound inside the door but there is no glass movement when I operate the window switch for either up or down. Does this mean I have a bad motor, regulator, or something is jammed? Thanks.

Yea, I found out the joy of exploding cables a few days ago - might have been a good idea to watch a video first.
I got it wound back in, but there was a clip inside the door that was obviously supposed to go into the mechanism, but I couldn't get to it. SO I shut the window - with an awful grinding noise - then just left it until I can do something else with it.
    :D
    Painful learning lessons :)

4 hours later. cuts on my hand. sore fingers.
The best thing was 2 vice grips around the compressed springs when they are inside the housing. then turning the center wheel with needle nose pliers and pulling the last couple of centimeters with the fingers.
My assembly is not as big. The one cable goes aroud 2 plastic round edges.
This video help me a lot still. to learn initially how it goes.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  13 лет назад

@ohhmyygodd For a 98 I would replace both. And I am not just saying that to get a bigger sale. At that age either one of the parts can have wear that causes problems. You could replace the motor but if the joints on the regulator are worn 2 months down the line either the reg fails or puts a lot of stress on the motor and overheats it. And vice-versa.

@csidaznigga 'is it possible to make it TOO tight?' Not really, to make it too tight you'd have to wrap it around an extra time which would make it just about impossible to string on to the rest of the regulator.

I've had to replace my regulator a couple of times already on my 03' Tiburon. Now this time the window would go down but not up, power appeared to be constant so I assumed it must be the pulley system. I opened up the regulator housing the spindle and bang everything came out just like in your video. Do you know if there is a trick to get that one back together. I struggled for way too long and am almost at the point of just buying a new one. Thanks in advance.
