I remember the expression six-string harmony from years ago, and I associated it with the Carters, but perhaps Mr. James's playing qualifies too.
Sonny's Capitol Records label mates the Seekers did this one first. True to form, Sonny and his peerless and flawless Southern Gentlemen put an original spin on it, resulting in two essential versions of the song. He is greatly, greatly missed.
This is 'not' live as the video suggests, the song is the exact same length and vocal inflections that appear on the 1971 Capitol Records 'Biggest Hits' release.

I'm 60 and I remember hearing this so often as a kid. One of my all time favorites.

I am from India and I am saddened to know that Sonny is no more with us. But his songs remain here forever.
I was fortunate to see Sonny James and hear him sing this song when I was in Vietnam in 1969.
