It's not all that new of a song. It came out in 1981. The economic and societal conditions were tough back then also. The stuff runs in cycles and "There is nothing new under the sun". Good reaction. You might want to try some Alan Jackson, "Remember When".
Im 48 born and raised in West Virginia. Tell my 21yr old daughter that makes fun of my computer illiteracy. I tell her when tech fails guess who wont starve without store or money? Me cause i was taught to hunt, fish and raise a garden.
You actually get a lot of variety out of Hank Jr. He grew up around early rock & country legends that admired his father who died when Jr. was only 3. But his mother forced him to start performing his father's songs on tour when he was 5. He grew up hunting & fishing, riding horses and shooting guns. But due to his late father's estate he grew up incredibly wealthy. At 14 he became sick of singing his father's songs and began clashing with his (let's be honest: godawful and mentally unwell) mother about making his own music. It took about a decade for him to hone his signature sound only to then nearly die in a mountain climbing accident at 26. The beard, sunglasses, & cowboy hat look came about after the accident to hide several scars and his glass eye. So he essentially has 3 musical eras: a very young cover artist, a young singer trying to find his style, and post accident Hank (the era that contains all of his most famous hits).
This is an Anthem for folks like me. When the world goes to shite; which it's looking like it may more each passing day, it's folks like US that city folk eill be coming too looking for help. I have 3 chest freezers loaded full of meats. Either off my land, out of the forest or from the river. By November 15th each fall; my JOB is to fill my freezers and my 3 kids freezers at their houses. We all buy as little as possible from grocery stores. I have an underground cold room full of bottled meats and vegetables; free for my family to take from; just bring back my empty jars! The good Lord gave us ALL the ability to provide for ourselves; you just need to have the drive to fo it and learn how. Why pay major corporations huge profits when you can provide for yourself via hunting, fishing & gardening. You just need to DO IT! You'd be amazed at how much further your payroll goes when you're not handing it back to the huge corporations and the Governments in taxes 😉 Take care of yourselves. I pray you all find peace, love and prosperity.
Yep. A few years ago I moved to a small spread in the shadow of a National Forest. My grandparents lived through the depression in the rural South and instilled the importance of self-reliance in all of us. I joke that what some people call "prepping", we just call "living out here". 😂
I loved your reaction to this. He has a lot of powerful storytelling songs like O.D.'d in Denver, Give a Damn, Mr. Lincoln, Dinosaur, and the American Way
When I was in high school, I saw Hank Jr 3 or 4 years in a row in concert. The last time he was so drunk he couldn’t sing and canceled the show in the middle of the concert .
Hank Jr was part of the " outlaw " country artists. Hank came from country music Royalty his father Hank Sr. Was the king of country music in his day. There's a video of Hank and his father singing A tear in my beer one of his father's hits they spliced old film , his father having passed , together with Hank jr it's pretty cool ✌️❤️
On Sunday mornings instead of going to church to compare dress outfits , I like to stay home and listen to albums of Gregorian chants performed by monk choirs . It is a much stronger spiritual experience.
If you are new to country music you may not be familiar with many of the artists, understandably, but you can gain a sense of the wide variety of styles they bring by watching a great collaboration among that large and diverse family of artists by watching "Forever Country", a wonderfully well produced music video.
In 1975, he fell off a summit in the mountains 530 feet, and survived. But he wore dark glasses all the time afterwards, I believe due to his eyes from that. Pretty miraculous.
The type of Country music he's singing is referred to as Outlaw Country. Both Hank Jr. and Sr. are legends in Country music. I recommend looking up the song There's A Tear in My Beer. Using technology Hank Jr. was actually able to sing a song with his late father who passed away when he was only 3 years old. Another excellent song is All my Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight. (If you're a fan of old movies and tv shows it's fun trying to see how many stars you can pick out.😉)
There's two other versions of this song the first one is " "A Country Boy Can Survive The Y2K" featuring The Late Country music Icon George Jones and The WCW ( World Championship Wrestling) pro wrestler turn country music singer Chad Brock , the second one is "American Can Survive " which is about the 9/11 .
I'm no musical person, but I think that "medieval" sound you heard is the sounds brought over by Irish and Scottish immigrants that settled in the mountains and influenced blues, country, and eventually even rock and roll.
Our “hardships” are doing as The Lord God Almighty HIMSELF Commanded all people to do, which is to WORK 6 days a week and to rest on The Sabbath. Ever since Adam and Eve chose to sin by disobeying The Lord while they were in the garden of Eden and The Lord kicked them out and that they had to toil, WORK for the rest of their lives, so basically Adam and Eve ate us all out of house and home. Thanks for showing this video.
I can personally vouch that country boy can survive…. 🇺🇸👍
Next do family tradition it's great. His dad was a country legend.
Hank's songs-Born to Boogie and Man to Man are Kickin'!!
Welcome to outlaw country. You need to check out Waylon Jennings next.
Hank Jr does have a Blues album out but it's under another name. I forget what name he used.
Will do ya good to fall down the rabbit hole and see what ya find...plenty of great songs ahead... (Yes, Hank wrote and preformed this song...)
Great Reaction, Hank Jr. is the best!
If you liked this you gotta try Seminole Wind by John Anderson 🎻

To me this song is a mix of blues and country , I dont get a rock vibe from it. But thats a great thing about music its open to interpetation.

Yep. They basically had to rebuild his skull and face, which is why he grew the beard and wears the hat and dark glasses.

Love your reaction! You are one of my favorite reactors. You gotta check out Hank III and Hank IV. Hank IV sounds like Hank Sr.
Hank Junior wrote this song
That was the actual store footage of his friend being murdered.
Hank Williams Junior is great, check out his song Born To Boogie!
