Earlier in the arc, during the road ambush, when Rex stands up to Krell, Krell makes some comment and gives for the first time. Rex is probably one of the few clones Krell would actually think about when killing, if that.

Honestly I think Pong Krell is a good villain because he knows his enemies. He talked down the clones, as the Kaminoans did. He also views himself as right, which pretty much all villains do, but better. He’s also so manipulative he literally caused the clones to fire at their own brothers. No wonder Dogma shot him.
At all fairness @12:45 it is explained that Jedi are more venerable to attacks from those they trust as we see in Tales of The Jedi and Aayla is actually searching for an enemy that she thinks the clones spotted, she doesn’t even turn to look at them as she believed they spotted something she didn’t, they were trusted so much
It would've been cool to see how Krell would handle Order 66. The other Clones the 501'st fought againts were the 212th Legion lead by Commander Cody and General Obi-Wan Kenobi.
@@admiral_ben2621 I'm inclined to agree, as I've said in my post the council members we see on screen are generally taken down by surprise attacks from very close range. They're struggling to respond to something they never expected and weren't ready for with little reaction time. Krell on the other hand and laying aside his skills (being able to defend front and rear is a huge bonus) never really trusted the clones. So if order 66 was given when he was alive he'd probably not do as well here but he wouldn't have been caught as offguard as the ones we see.
The Umbara arc is a perfect way to show the brutality of war, especially against an entrenched, native force. The only criticism I could possibly have is I kinda wish they left dooku and pure evil out of it and just made it that Krell just didn't care about clone lives.
I think I remember seeing a theory that Krell actually foresaw what the clones would do. He saw losing the lives of clone troopers as necessary for winning the war because, honestly, that's what would be necessary for the survival of the jedi. Mutual destruction of the droids and clones meant they wouldn't have the firepower to takeout the jedi later.

The scenes where the clones are killing each other is very heart wrenching as Rex comes running yelling about how they’re killing other clones, and the music really sells that sense of dread. Also RIP Waxer.
Temple guards have existed for thousands of years in Star Wars technically and almost always they had the yellow sabers because they were to signify " We are not a normal part of the order. We are the only ones here trained to put you down. " - They were trained in various double-bladed saber forms. Most of them to do with dismantling opponents similar to Form 2, the same form used by Dooku to absolutely body Anakin and toy with him in their first encounter and then used by Anakin to body Dooku. Anakin had apparently studied it in secret " because we're facing Sith now and they won't come quietly. We have to. " - so he learned the form all about cutting off limbs.
18:00 I believe they had said that if Galen Marek/Starkiller was brought into canon, he'd be equal to Anakin or Mace Windu. Also he didn't really bring that Star Destroyer down. Its engines were already gone and it was already falling. He just made it fall faster and in a different direction. He wasn't overpowering the Destroyer's own power.
Agreed. I know he is strong, but not that strong to force a star destroyer down. He did something few others could do, which was a sudden redirection of that magnitude
As much as i want to agree with you on the star destroyer part. (bookwise, you're correct, same thing with the PS2 version) But, some genius thought making 4 different versions of the same game was a good idea. there's like 4 different versions, don't know the actual correct amount but, in one of them atleast i'm pretty sure he pulls an active star destroyer down. (in the book and, PS2 version, it's being scrapped/dropped, he just tries pulling it down some more so it doesn't land on him.)
I think I might have a correction? When hardcase throws that “bomb” looking thing into the reactor, I don’t think it was a bomb but an engine for the umbaran ship, and that the engine didn’t explode, but the impact of the engine puncturing the reactor caused the explosion
@@yarnickgoovaerts Clone enough, (twas a missile pod); and going frame by frame, it looks like the missiles did ignite a split second before the reactor goes off, followed by the rest of the explosions
If I am not mistaken the man who played Pong Krell is an amazing voice actor by the name of Dave Fennoy. He has played many video game characters such as the legendary Lee Everett in The Walking Dead, Bluebeard in The Wolf Among Us, Finch in Tales from the Borderlands, Gabriel the Warrior in Minecraft: Story Mode, and Lucius Fox in Batman: Arkham Knight and Batman: The Telltale Series. He voiced many characters in tv shows and movies such as Tobias Whale in Suicide squad hell to pay, He was also in Deep, He also voiced a mouse henchmen in Nut Job 2, and he also voiced Textrad Shard in Ben 10. Overall Dave Fennoy seems to be a pretty cool guy and one of my all time favorite voice actors.
Pretty sure it was the guards although it was mainly showed first with Krell, inlater episodes (mainly Anakin vs Barriss) you could see the guards with foldable sabers and dual wield sabers
The Umbara Arc is probably the most visually stunning set of episodes in all of Clone Wars. The colors, the cool alien tech, the character design, and especially the kinetic action sequences. It's like a thrill ride from start to finish.
This was definitely ark where they were showing us 100 ways a clone can die from a force user since we very rarely see clones get destroyed by lightsabers.
My favorite besides Umbara would either be the Zygerria arc or the Citadel arc from S3. That was the best and most emotional prison break I have ever seen (for its shortness of course)
Dogmas fate is unknown, there are multiple things that could have happen to him. The reason why he was still cuffed is because he shot krell and not Rex. Dogma did not have the authority to do that. Which was why he was then cuffed.
19:55 it's funny you mention the taunt thing but the clones honestly have a legit taunt function lol. It works on droids, Jedi, Sith and even animals lol. That's how they really killed most of the Jedi during order 66, they were all spamming taunts until it glitched out the Jedi's targeting and left them vulnerable to attack rofl
I think (laying outside of universe reasons) the reason Krell does so much better than the council members is that he was ready and waiting for this then he's going into a fight fully aware and using his sabres front and rear protecting him from all directions. The council members however are starting from a surprise attack they're not expecting and are usually trying to regain their balanc,e figure out what's happening and draw their sabre while being fired on from very close range with little reaction time. It works as an explanation with the only survivors we see in Ep3 being Yoda who had some warning and Obi Wan who was fired on at a distance and had time to recover from the shock.
One character that might be more hated they got an even more satisfying death was the head slaver that had Obi-Wan. That moment at the end where the bad guy looked at Obi-Wan and said a Jedi can't kill an unarmed man and Rex put the spear through the guy's chest. I have never fisted pumped so hard for a cartoon show in my life LOL
My favorite archs by were the Savage and Maul archs, from Savage's creation to the formation of the Shadow Syndicate, just peak darksider shit. I loved it. Umbara comes right after.
It's insane how easily Krell could kill all of the clone. I like to think that this was the reason why clones were then later more trained in combat with jedi or lightsaber users in general. Which made it look so easy during Order 66. With this theory, the Umbara arc is even darker.
Maybe someone else brought it up in the comments and I couldn't find it but... What about Krell at 12:14 does the Senator Palpatine thing with, "It's treason then." as Mace Windu and the other Jedi went to arrest Senator Palpatine when Rex and company show up to relieve Krell of command...? Chills, man...gave me chills!
He doesn’t care about his men. Only himself. And was just doing this to serve dooku. The most funniest thing is he gets killed by the clone that was loyal to him. Wars hell.
I always feel bad for people like "robots, clones and synth's" people that are meant to die in war people like the Nikke's from "Godess of victory: Nikke" [where they get slaughter and consumed by their enemies], clones from clone wars [obviously they are cloned just to die in a pointless war], synth's from last origin [Which are similar to the Nikke's except your the last human and they HAVE to protect you as the humanities last order.] its just sad. in the robots case, they often times consider themselves to be only weapons or tools and nothing more, merely the hand of humans. and in the clones and synth's case they are a lot like each other in that they HAVE to follow every order even if it means they die in the end and only a few like rex ever break free.
I watched Resistance. In my opinion, it started out as "okay but on the verge of meh". But luckily, it got better. After the show ended, I thought it was alright. To me, the story was "meh" in Season 1 and "okay" in Season 2. While it can get a lot darker than the animation style and first few episodes may suggest (especially in Season 2), it's still quite tame compared to the vast majority of other Star Wars media I've seen/read with a lot more Slice of Life and a bit less fighting than we're used to seeing in Star Wars. The animation was alright after I got used to it. The characters were the strong point of the show and the main reason I kept watching. While average for Star Wars standards, that's still enough that I do hope to see them again someday. IF any writer ever dares to touch the time post-Episode 9, that is. Overall, it think it was alright. I'd definitely consider it the worst animated Star Wars show since the Disney takeover but truth be told, that's not saying much. I'd still give it a 5/10 on average, a 5.5/10 at best and a 4.9/10 at worst. I definitely don't think it's a "must watch" for any Star Wars fans like I consider TCW or Rebels to be.
Part of the reason alot of ppl didnt like Resistance is that it was the follow-up show to Rebels. Kind of the same way TCW fans refused to give Rebels a shot, Rebels fans refused to give Resistance a shot.
@@MarcMagma Oh, I figured you meant *in* Season 2; but saying a show that lasted two seasons got better AFTER Season 2, as originally wrote... kind of says something else, don't it? =p
12:43 To kill a Jedi you need specialized equipment or the weight of numbers, you need omnidirectional fire on their position (or artillery), and surprise if you can get it. You do not give them a chance to surrender, if you're taking them alive you surround them, use flashbangs, and tear gas in an enclosed space, troopers should be fine with helmets, and blast them into oblivion with enough stun blasts to make the Sarlac feel it. If you're not, recommend the use of land mines, and not just a few, basically set up a triggerable minefield, lure them into it, and detonate it, then bombard the position with every gun you've got.
At 20:25 when talking about spatial awareness with his limbs it actually looks like Krell tucks his bottom two arms into his chest to avoid a potential accidental cut
The best conventional way to kill a jedi is actually to get in close with numbers. Not close enough to get sliced but just out of blade reach. Being this close to a jedi and outnumbering them means the blaster bolt will be near instantaneously on them rather than the few seconds from longer ranges. Also, the number of bolts will overwhelm the jedi making unable to use the force as they will be too focus on defending themselves as well as too focused to deflect the bolts back and the need to just guard. Krell's style means he basically has a super-computer for a brain (though once again arrogance and over confidence was his downfall), being able to control those arms and blades and not nick himself would require a ton of mental training and nonstop thinking. He's basically perfect to defend against the clones.
1:32 Most of them being the younger stock, like Dogma. 1:35 Mostly the veterans, like Rex, Hardcase, and Fives. 6:37 All's I can see are Separatist warships. I the Republic fleet in orbit likely sent the fighters out to go and attack the fleet, try and take out the supply ship, like how the US did during Midway, sent fighters out after their Japanese equivalents to attack their carriers.
Krell and Fox are definitely the most easy to hate characters in the clone wars. I loved this arc it was top 5 arcs for me. I'd also be sick if we got to see Anakin show up mid-battle and Rex explains everything. Then Anakin goes all darkside on Krell striking him down no hesitation. They seriously need to make a Star Wars what if series I think that it would be so emotional and probably would become my favorite Star Wars series of all time.
I think the umbra arc is one of my favorites. And it leads to my theory that clones didn’t need the chips to execute traitorous jedi who turned against the republic. I think the chip only activated when the clones were unwilling to execute traitor jedi. And while some may say the jedi weren’t traitors, let’s look at it. The clones were in no position to realize that, it’s fully reasonable to think the higher jedi order may have been corrupt and sought to overthrow the republic. So for clones out on the front lines, hearing that their jedi general was a traitor, they may have needed the chip to activate if they were unwilling to follow the order, but some I think were just down to be like, of course it all makes sense. I like to look at bad batch where crosshair followed the empire without the chip.
Ive commented this on probably EVERY single umbara video ever, but Krell snapping that Clones back over his knee like that? I will never forget that, its been burned into my brain since I was like 9/10 💀
Umbara if memory serves was pretty isolated from the rest of the galaxy by it's location, resulting in their technology developing without much influence from the rest of the galaxy, which is why their tech looks so different.
The armor of the clone troopers was mainly intended to deter shrapnel and such. Only the armor of the stormtroopers protected them from death when they were hit and they fainted
@@Auvas_Damask That’s not true at all. Many clones get back up after being hit by blaster fire throughout the show, and the extended lore outright tells you that their armor is built to stop bullets, shrapnel, and modern blaster fire.
except the Umbarans weren't isolated by choice, but rather isolated by a nebula, and any contact with the rest of the galaxy was made by members of the highest caste, like their late senator Mee Deechi or Palpatine's aide Sly Moore.
Umbara arc is still one of my favourite arcs in the Clone Wars. I think Krell is overlooked as just another twist villain because of what he did but he actually is probably the one of the best villain in Star Wars👍
The Umbara arc is the best arc in the clone wars, solely because it focuses on a part of a single campaign and the clones, and introducing an amazing twist that changed the arc from just being the 501st vs the Umbarans by introducing Krell. There should've been more arcs like it in the show. Focusing on smaller parts of the conflict from the perspective of those fighting in the war, instead of focusing on the jedi and specifically the 501st most of the time.
You should do the Mon Calamari arc, if you haven't already. Big aquatic battle, lasts for several episodes. And the Temple Guards did the folding lightsabers first.
The hunter was not seen in episode 3 because logically the successor version the ARK 170, was used there. And the successor version of this is the well-known X-Wing
Something i always wondered was how none of the clones questioned the umbarans taking clone armor. They have to have specific air to breath that they couldnt use in clone helmets.
somthin you missed was that after krell yeeted those two clone into a group of clones is that when Rex and co are confronted by dogma in the background you can see alot of clones get back up, and in the scene when the clones decide to arreset Krell you get a shot of tup, pissed off, which I think is when his faulty chip starts to malfunction or degrade even more when Rex says treason against the republic
10:43 they're armor is designed to resist against light blaster fire, so pistols namely, it also protects against environmental hazards like toxins and pollens, whilst it also gives them a good amount of absorb against blaster rifle shots.
"I wonder what legions they were" On Umbara, there were several different groups, but the two largest depicted in the Clone Wars arc was the 501st Legion (Blue - Anakin's troops), and the 212th Attack Battalion (Orange - Obi-Wan's Troops).
I dont know if anyone told you this but the more accurate designation for Krell's sabers are Lightsaber Pikes similar to what Jedi Temple Guard carries.
dude krell would have survive order 66. idc what anyone says. He was simply on a power high accepting the darkside for the first time like anakin. He played with his food and got bured. Had he went serious no jokes no games? well rex and the rest would have been KOed. especially IF he had a padawan that he trained personally. I think a padawan he trained could rival ahsoka in skill. He would have pushed said person just as hard.
fun fact, Dave Filoni said the umbara supply shit scene was the biggest scene they ever did, the whole battle, every single ship, every wreckage were individualy animated also TCW was much much sooner than rebels, so the folding lightsaber for krell was first, rebels temple guard second and sith rey third, but nothing can beat the original TCW ddesign
Don’t know if you’ve already done it, but the one where ahsoka is with the separatists senator kid and he’s tryna join death watch. that one of my favorites, ahsoka does one of the NASTIEST moves in star wars!
Just a little insider knowledge, Dogma is actually trialed by the republic for treason. Even though Krell was just an asshole to us, he was still a General killed by his own men. The question why dogma killed Krell isnt even asked. He killed a General so he must stand trial for that and the reason why only dogma is trialed is, so that the rest of the 501st can continue the war. (he was so to speak the sacrificial lamb)
Just a theory, that Palpatine was on the search for a new apprentice to replace Dooku with him sensing the Dark side in Krell and a possible candidate, thus ordering Anakin back to Coruscant as stated in Krell's introduction to both see if Krell can make the cut with his skill and to also test the effectiveness of Clones vs Jedi as a simulation for Order 66 to see how well they fare against each other if/when Palpatine were to issue Order 66, if they did make Krell succeed in escaping and becoming a Sith apprentice under Palpatine or Dooku, I would've loved to see the banter/arguing and possible fight between Krell and Grevious!

The other Clones the 501'st fought againts were the 212th Legion lead by Commander Cody and General Obi-Wan Kenobi.
honestly i think he would’ve survived
I think Dooku + Krell might have been able to properly challenge Sidious...
Why should he care? If not in the battle field they'll die from accelerated aging!
@@reinettesylfgreinar365 oh dam never thought about it. That's actually genius of Krell acted kn the knowledge of order 66

(bookwise, you're correct, same thing with the PS2 version)
But, some genius thought making 4 different versions of the same game was a good idea. there's like 4 different versions, don't know the actual correct amount but, in one of them atleast i'm pretty sure he pulls an active star destroyer down. (in the book and, PS2 version, it's being scrapped/dropped, he just tries pulling it down some more so it doesn't land on him.)
Galen was Canon during the Clone Wars before Disney took over I believe. I know he was Canon for a while
I think I might have a correction? When hardcase throws that “bomb” looking thing into the reactor, I don’t think it was a bomb but an engine for the umbaran ship, and that the engine didn’t explode, but the impact of the engine puncturing the reactor caused the explosion
I think it was the torpedo pod
@@yarnickgoovaerts Clone enough, (twas a missile pod); and going frame by frame, it looks like the missiles did ignite a split second before the reactor goes off, followed by the rest of the explosions

On my last rewatch of clone wars, I was genuinely scared to rewatch it because of how sad it is. Amazing video
The Umbara Arc is probably the most visually stunning set of episodes in all of Clone Wars. The colors, the cool alien tech, the character design, and especially the kinetic action sequences. It's like a thrill ride from start to finish.
I loved that TCW did show clones with major character flaws like Sgt. Slick, Dogma and Commander Fox.
Zygerria was one of my favorite for Kenobi's and Anakin's development
And for...her >_>

Sam’s voice acting in the episode “brothers” always gives me chills
It's insane how easily Krell could kill all of the clone. I like to think that this was the reason why clones were then later more trained in combat with jedi or lightsaber users in general. Which made it look so easy during Order 66. With this theory, the Umbara arc is even darker.
You should watch Star Wars lightsaber duels at 0.25x speed, the videos won't be as long as usual but would still be awesome!
i never noticed in episode 3 that one of the galactic marines actually dodged a reflected blaster bolt
Siege of Mandalore was my favorite, with Umbara, Five's, Obi Undercover, and the Shadow Conspiracy arc being my top five. All amazing arcs
Something I noticed is that you didn’t acknowledge Hardcase’s death (rip Hardcase) but you acknowledged Waxer’s death
I love how Krell's lightsabers sound
"Is there any other clone wars character that's more hated than Krell?"
Well shit, I couldn't think of anyon-
Fox. That's all I have to say
Wars hell.
I always feel bad for people like "robots, clones and synth's"
people that are meant to die in war people like the Nikke's from "Godess of victory: Nikke" [where they get slaughter and consumed by their enemies], clones from clone wars [obviously they are cloned just to die in a pointless war], synth's from last origin [Which are similar to the Nikke's except your the last human and they HAVE to protect you as the humanities last order.]
its just sad.
in the robots case, they often times consider themselves to be only weapons or tools and nothing more, merely the hand of humans.
and in the clones and synth's case they are a lot like each other in that they HAVE to follow every order even if it means they die in the end and only a few like rex ever break free.
Going into it with the expectation that it's 'Power Rangers; Star Wars Edition' really helps too
Part of the reason alot of ppl didnt like Resistance is that it was the follow-up show to Rebels. Kind of the same way TCW fans refused to give Rebels a shot, Rebels fans refused to give Resistance a shot.
AFTER Season 2...? Uh huh, I see what you did there.

21:25 yes there is. Commander Fox
True
I loved the underwater arc with Kit fisto and the shark dude
Krell and Fox are definitely the most easy to hate characters in the clone wars. I loved this arc it was top 5 arcs for me. I'd also be sick if we got to see Anakin show up mid-battle and Rex explains everything. Then Anakin goes all darkside on Krell striking him down no hesitation. They seriously need to make a Star Wars what if series I think that it would be so emotional and probably would become my favorite Star Wars series of all time.
As much as I hate Krell, Fix is definitely worse

What are the odds that I JUST watched these episodes last night?! Awesome stuff as always man, thank you!
We should get a tales of the Jedi about krell and the missions he has with other clone casualties, and why he fell from the Jedi more specifically
Just realized the 501st killed _two_ Jedi before Order 66, including a master.
No wonder Sideous used them for the Jedi Temple raid.
You gotta do takeover of Mandolore in season 5. So many many good battles in that arc including personally, my favorite lightsaber battle

Umbara if memory serves was pretty isolated from the rest of the galaxy by it's location, resulting in their technology developing without much influence from the rest of the galaxy, which is why their tech looks so different.

21:43 ah yes, I’d forgotten that that was how military justice worked.
Fox is one of the most hated starwars characters ever. Early Ahsoka was hated too, but that was on purpose so she could grow as a character.
The Umbaren tech is different because they isolated themselves from the rest of the galaxy, similar to feudal Japan
except the Umbarans weren't isolated by choice, but rather isolated by a nebula, and any contact with the rest of the galaxy was made by members of the highest caste, like their late senator Mee Deechi or Palpatine's aide Sly Moore.
17:15 Orla Jareni was the first person to have a hinged saber. She was an Umbaran Jedi Wayseeker from the High Republic era.
Umbara arc is still one of my favourite arcs in the Clone Wars. I think Krell is overlooked as just another twist villain because of what he did but he actually is probably the one of the best villain in Star Wars👍
I just found this video through the algorithm. I love your enthusiasm for The Clone Wars!
"if he just kept rolling like tuk-tuk or something"

Something i always wondered was how none of the clones questioned the umbarans taking clone armor. They have to have specific air to breath that they couldnt use in clone helmets.
the umbarans could breathe, it was to increase performance. i mean, why wouldnt they be able to breathe on their own planet
somthin you missed was that after krell yeeted those two clone into a group of clones is that when Rex and co are confronted by dogma in the background you can see alot of clones get back up, and in the scene when the clones decide to arreset Krell you get a shot of tup, pissed off, which I think is when his faulty chip starts to malfunction or degrade even more when Rex says treason against the republic
10:43 they're armor is designed to resist against light blaster fire, so pistols namely, it also protects against environmental hazards like toxins and pollens, whilst it also gives them a good amount of absorb against blaster rifle shots.
Resistance is worth watching

The Umbara episodes were for sure some of the best made in the series. Wish they could of expanded more on Krell.
"I wonder what legions they were"
On Umbara, there were several different groups, but the two largest depicted in the Clone Wars arc was the 501st Legion (Blue - Anakin's troops), and the 212th Attack Battalion (Orange - Obi-Wan's Troops).
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Andor or any of the other live action series

I dont know if anyone told you this but the more accurate designation for Krell's sabers are Lightsaber Pikes similar to what Jedi Temple Guard carries.
He was actually right about killing the clones due to the fact order 66 wiped out most of the Jedi
dude krell would have survive order 66. idc what anyone says. He would have pushed said person just as hard.
fun fact, Dave Filoni said the umbara supply shit scene was the biggest scene they ever did, the whole battle, every single ship, every wreckage were individualy animated
also TCW was much much sooner than rebels, so the folding lightsaber for krell was first, rebels temple guard second and sith rey third, but nothing can beat the original TCW ddesign

I love how heavy krell and savage opress’ lightsabers sound
21:50 it was the 501st and the 212th
17:16 krell was first then temple guard
