Oh your in Texas or other southern state right.
Did you use any bubble foil.
Probably not needed at your state .😊😊
I can't have walls with 2x4's,, county code wants 6 inch studs in walls.
I need a 75-80 lb roof load because I am in a snow area every year
Everyone used to laugh at mobile homes, now look at us in a country with a economy so inflated that our goal is a shed
For me, the ideas in this Ryan's Shed Plans were a starting point for building different sheds ruclips.net/user/postUgkxn5Hu39f8DPIFYfBbaiOSis3qfw0nqoFp Ryan's gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
Not sure I understand that Lynn. Sorry
I have OFTEN looked at those sheds and thought, "I could make that a house."

Kay Rastetter did you order it or have someone help plan it out? Like a contractor?
Kay Rastetter my husband is not a builder lol I wish! But I don’t mean to pry! But do you think if I draw up a plan a contractor could do it under $100000? I want a 24x24 two stories? Comparing your cost and what you have?
Kay Rastetter thank you so much for your honesty and openness. So it is possible! I have a plan drawn up for a 24x24 two story but I could make it closer to your size one story. I’m not sure if that’s going to make the price go up or not. Thank you again.
Kay Rastetter you are so sweet and kind! Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this helped me! Thank you again!!!
Thought the exact thing as a kid. Except I thought of a small shed being my own bedroom or something.
You have to remember these are just the shell, no insulation or interior walls. That would change the noise level.
Thought the same when he said he could feel the wind
And people don't realize that the shell is the cheapest part
Right that’s exactly what I was thinking
col stace lol exactly... weve just recently decided to go with one. Of course the ones were looking at are smaller and come from one of those small business companies and they seem to be cheaper ($9k but biggest one is 12x40 with lofts on both sides) they already include a porch, windows, and tin roof. BUT... then you gotta make it liveable. Flooring, walls, insulation, Sheetrock, kitchenette, bathroom, heating and air unit Etc.... that stuff does not come cheap. If you’re able to get all of those things, they’re perfect! And can be moved anywhere. They’re rent to own as well with no credit check. They’re definitely projects and unless you have all the money right then, it can take months to build on everything to make it liveable.
@Maroxa Livesfree true, but there is a lot to do to make it livable. Depending on where you live the weather dictates how you finish it, that being said it's still a better option than a shipping container.
There is no perfect building system, you just have to decide what's best for you. 😊👍
I remember telling my husband over 20 years ago of this large shed to house idea... he laughed... Love this.

These sheds are better than most houses in other countries. My grandparents lived in huts made of bamboo and leaves so
Last yr, my son's friend bought this and we wired it for him in a weekend! Elec hot water tank went under the stair landing. Elec Panel was above that with elec service meter on the N end of the building. Circuits went up through upper and lower stair well walls. Toilet, shower, was under stairs, 30" door on rt end. Kitchen cabinets from stair to bathroom door. Wood stove in S. back corner of liv room. Mini/split AC N end, next to elec service. Upstairs big bedroom and sleeper/sofa down stairs for company. His Tuff Shed roof sagged and walls spread after heavy rains! We pulled the walls back in with come-alongs, Bolted steel cables thru the wall headers, next to each roof rafter with turn buckles in the center for adjusting. Then added an L shaped brace above the ceiling and short vertical 2x4's bracing the center ridge. Building wouldn't have passed a framing inspection as-is but the guys who built the kit weren't framers and there was no inspections out in the country... Glad we caught it in the elec rough in stage!
I was born in a tiny home. Mom and and dad had 8 kids 3 bedrooms 1 bath front room kitchen laundry combo. 900 sq ft. Total cost 11K brand new in 1953. I have a real tiny home at the lake 2 beds 1 bath and only 500 sq ft. I use bedrooms for sleeping only and spend day on lake, back double deck and patio. Peacefully backed up to 25 wooded acres approx.
Love these shed conversion. Perfect for retirement. Very cute.
THANK YOU sooo much!! Hey, have you checked out our BRAND NEW Shed to House RUclips channel? You will LOVE IT!!!

This is a more realistic "tiny house" option.
Ikr!!...i really like it!
Phil Wilson totally agree why would someone buy one of those tiny homes were you can build a loft or barn style home
Depends on the person
Yes, I laugh at all those tiny home videos where people spend 100,000+. I'm like you are totally missing the point of the tiny house movement.
Agreed. I’d totally do this but I’m in Orange County, California.
16 X 44 ? that's a mansion to me! LOL, my tiny home is 16 X 16! no loft, and NOT a shed but a real home.
I love it and its only myself, with a Kitchen and full bathroom on 2.5 acres in NV, All mine! Thanks for posting, you have a very nice home! Tom in NV
With a good layout and no more than a couple staying in it, that's not bad. Things get a bit murky once you start needing a room for kids and more than 1 bathroom.
Best part, though, as long as you have space on the land, you can always expand the home
@@InfernosReaper Thankfully, having kids is optional! :^)
@@theyoftheravens if you already have them, they are not refundable
@@travisminneapolis I think it's pretty safe to say that if you already have kids you'll be factoring them into your living situation.
My home is 7×5 ft.i live in a simi truck.
Done it. Had a custom 20x20 built, made a roomy efficency out of it. Storage, full sized bathroom and kitchen, open living/bedroom, tons of light. I loved it.
How much did it cost in all for the bedrooms and kitchen and everything?
What did you do for the foundation ?
I have built a 16x16 barn as a cabin in the woods and love it , and is quite adiquite
Used to work for Tuff Shed - they are a good company with a great product. They sell them as a shell, and yes, everything else is extra, the idea is you configure they way you want it. Other commentator mentioned code, and yes that is a problem for converting in much of the country, first hurdle is getting a building permit for putting a shed on a piece of land without a residence. They are always permitted as a storeage shed regardless if you plan on converting once up. Before you look into the shed get with the county first to see what they allow.
Mike T I just purchased a 10 x 12. I would definitely recommend tough shed and the advice as far as dealing with your city first absolutely. I’m in Jax Beach Florida and it was a pain in the ass.
Mike T well I’m glad I live in AZ cause most city’s here don’t give a damn
@@codyroden719 Missouri does not care pretty much I hear.
Take America Back From Isяael most free states don’t cause it’s your damn property as long as your not a menace do what you want unless you live in a neighborhood that has a certain style home or building code we’re common sense says you will be a jackass have at it. Mericaaa
The majority of cities don't allow alternative housing structures because it means less property tax revenue.
I love these sorts of projects. I build a 12X20 TuffShed in my backyard for about $3,500, and for an additional $1,500 I finished it out with flooring, insulation, electric, drywall, lighting, head/AC, paint, and a dividing wall that splits the building into two rooms of 10X12. I've been using one half as my year-round office for the last 5 years. The other half is a spare room/storage space. Basically, for about $5K total, I added two fully functional rooms to my house. This was probably the best home-improvement I've ever done. I love it.
Unfortunately they cost more than double these days.
I'd honestly love to see fully decked out examples of both of those sheds-to-houses. Definitely better than a Tiny House. But just want to see where the kitchen or kitchenette would go. Bathroom as well. Bedroom upstairs. How much space would be left for a Living room downstairs.
I HAVE lived in those. For over a year. It seems great at first, but it takes a strong person to live in one continually. For a weekend or getaway place they're great.
this is cool. i've lived in a 1000sqft home for the past 8 years and it's almost enough for me.
Awesome!
in the 2009 a friend had one of those long sheds on their property and we made a home out of it. It was there for a long time but in Southern Louisiana (Slidell/Covington) they had a '100 yr flood' that decimated the area and well the whole thing was destroyed.
Still it showed me what was possible, and we never saw videos like this - we just got creative! Ever since then I am Impressed with videos like this and right now my plan is a van or restore a motor home because I do film making - Then I will get some land as soon as I figure where I want to be (maybe the Pacific Northwest or back to Southern Louisiana). Till then I do have questions and will be learning from your videos!!!
YOU CAN FEEL THE WIND BECAUSE THERE'S NO INSOLATION.🤣
Latisha Brown and because the vent on the bottom floor, it clearly leads right outside, and with all the windows open it creates a draft
He was talking about the house kind of moving with the wind
Seems good so far! Was easy to talk to about his My Shed Plans [Go Here=> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. Guided me in the right direction & helped me understand everything & in the end it was what I wanted
😂 😂 😂 😂
IF I BOUGHT ONE WOULD YOU HAVE SPACE FOR ONE OF THOSE FOR ME
I just found you, and you’ve been very helpful so far. My family lives in a small mobile home and it’s a bit small for all of us. I’ve been trying to plan out an idea so I could stay in a small shed/house right outside to provide more space in the main house. So, you’ve been very helpful with tips and information. Thank you😊
Awesome! You are very welcome!!
Very cool !
I am almost half way thru with a Geodesic Cabin. I used the hubs from a childrens playground piece.
It's back is set into the mountain with a atrium on the raised front of it.

That's bigger and WAY nicer than apartments I've had. Could very easily live in one of those.
My roommate & I almost did this 15 years ago w that exact same barn style. I sometimes still wish we had!

And when they gouge for lumber you get a chainsaw mill.
Bruce Courtney Lol haha damn straight
I'd like to hear from a carpenter whether these are overpriced. Hint, I'm sure they are.
Well yeah. Vids like this don't help. Lol
I’m dying to see someone buy the first one and actually turn it into a home!
Don't die. It is just a shed. Kidding!!!! haha. Maybe someday.
I work for Tuff Shed as an area sales manager and I wanted to explain the prices you were talking about. The poster on the outside is the base price for that type shed and the dimensions of the display. The price of the actual display shed is inside on the big poster. It will have an itemized breakdown. The number where you can reach the sales rep will also be found there. Thank you!
I know things change and you might not be with the company anymore but do you know if they still make these sheds? I can't find them on the home depot website.
It’s too good for the current state of the economy. So no, they are no longer sold. Stupid of Home Depot to do away with it but I’m sure they’d want to charge ridiculous prices for this
What’s the pay like?
Thanks Biden for ruining the economy.
The stairs on the first one the toe guard was open, the second one was closed, and they don't have insulation or Drywall it wasn't finished inside, and I think the Door was open as well. And your Shed to house 🏠 it's very nice 👍 and it will seem like it's made better because it's finished. And by the way your Home 🏡 is AWESOME.
Oh well thank you very much Erica!!!!
I think you may have just changed my future house plans.
Thanks so much for all you’ve done for me. You guys are the best! Btw I smashed the like button for the RUclips algorithm. :)
i love how easy the plans are in *WoodBlueprints. Com* to understand and the step-by-step videos they have. Makes getting material really easy
Insulation and sheetrock and a foundation would solve your problem with the house shaking in the wind. Sheetrock adds a considerable amount of stability.
Of course I can live in one of those homes. I'm an artist and I'm in the middle of writing my very own first book. And I would love to own an art studio home for myself. And those homes are perfect to be an artist's home.
Button smashed! We're hoping to start our conversion on an existing shed in spring of 2022 on our five acres. Our is a 12x20, which is enough footage for us, though we are planning to pop the roof up for more headroom in the lofts. Our biggest issue right now is that we can't find anyone who's converted a 12x20, so we'll be flying blind.
Well here's my thing. When you buy these ftom the big box stores, they charge you an arm and a leg when you can simply do your research and buy one on line at a place like Alans sheds and you could get yourself huge metal shed for about $6000. Way bigger than these and waaaaay cheaper.
dude this guy said he has his family of 6 in an 800 sq ft shed. he is no genius.
Man I'm glad you're not saying, "yeah buy one of these as-is." I like that you point out the design is a good template and to use proper builders
I own the 2 story shed I purchased at Lowes. It is my awesome guest house. They came out and built it on site.
It would be cool to have two of them built side by side with a hallway connecting them. Insulated, storm windows, forced air, bathrooms, ect.
For security reasons, buy door hinges made to have the doors swing out as that prevents doors from being kicked in.
Thank you so much for this you are truly a good buddy I look forward towatching more informational videos that are very helpful
Well thank you!!!!!
Sure Bud!!!💪💯💯 anytime
RUclips algorithm on point! We just saw one of these yesterday for the first time and decided we'd like to buy one and convert it into a home (model with windows was about $18,000). @@BetterTogetherLife Right?! Super creepy 😂
Yay! Will do!
Another idea: can you take two of these sheds and put them together to make a bigger tiny house?
Yup!
Doesn't that defeat "the tiny house living" the bigger you make it, less of a small house, just saying, the biggest I would want is the 16x16 barn shed, I am sorry I am only 1 person, you guys might have families, my apologies
Take two of these, one large and one small, and use both of them. The large one is insulated and fully equipped to live in, the small one is used as a pantry and storage area. As long as the pantry shed doesn't freeze you'll have plenty of space to store food and other belongings without using up your precious space inside of the living area.
Alternatively, something that makes more sense, on the side of one of these 2-story ones you could probably throw up a little storage extension easily, the side is flat and you can make a 1-story building with a single flat roof. It wouldn't have to be too big but it would give you that necessary storage space that these house-to-sheds are really lacking, Would be extremely cheap, certainly a lot cheaper than one of these sheds and it would also add insulative value to the house.
@@maggiecarey717 If you're cooking your own food you want a pantry, you want a oven / stove, you want a fridge and freezer. If you want to do some lawn work or store tools or something you're gonna need space for that. You'll need a bathroom to fit in somewhere. All of that you probably want on the first floor, with the second floor reserved for living and sleeping. Yeah, a full-on second shed would kind of defeat a lot of the purpose but a little 1-story extension on the side that's a bathroom or pantry would make this house comfortable instead of cramped.
Hi..... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
I would love to have one of these for a guest house! One day after were done paying on our house I love building and renovating, it all started with buying a fixer upper
Thing is you can build and live as you go without going into debt too far.
If you have land you can.
Problem is where to put it. Unless you’re willing to live in the boondocks. Incorporated areas are very restrictive to something practical and utilitarian.
@@TheProtocol48 Yeah, that's why you've gotta figure out what the local building code is and comply with it, even if the rules are idiotic.
The structure itself should be fine, but filling it in will get tricky. Some places require things like "at least 1 room that's 150sq ft" or "approximately 100sq ft minimum for bedrooms."
That's why a lot of tiny houses built on land end up having open lofts for bedrooms instead of being built for a full 2 stories.
Nevermind that an 8x8 is functional enough for a bedroom. Hell, I have a friend grew up in a 10x5 with part of that space being taken up by a closet and that worked out okay with the help of a futon/bunkbed combo.
If I buy land. I'd probably set one of these up. Pay it off save some cash to build a house on and use the shed as air B&B or a place for friends and family to stay when they visit.
@@stevenhorsefield2909 WELL YOU CAN BUY THAT FIRST.
I've been homeless and currently live in a POS ghetto apartment complex. I salivate over these homes!
Thank You for your knowledge and info.
Discovering your channel has been an eye opener forsure!
I'd love to convert the first shed into a dwelling. Unfortunately the snow load here would crush it. Sooner or later, every valley house that's been hauled up here for use as a cabin has ended up with a stove-in roof. If you want a simple, inexpensive, quickly-built shed/garage/dwelling, your choice starts and ends with an A-frame. Otherwise you're using engineered lumber on 6" centers as roof joists and subflooring for roof sheathing.
it seem big too I like it me I’m currently living in a 10x30 shed with double loft converted into a mini home and we are a family of four 😍 but we live confortable it all in organization
If a hurricane/tornado ever destroys my 16'x24' square foot house then I will 100% buy one of these Home Depot Tough Sheds. I would add a front porch and a two story screened in porch on the rear. I would add a composite beam in the rear upper wall to allow the upper rear wall to be all glass and a pair of French doors to walk directly on to the second story screened in porch for the much better elevated view. I would have a open half bath under the stairs with a washer and dry. The kitchen/dinning/living would be downstairs with the full bath with rear wall corner shower upstairs with my bedroom and closet.
Hell, these are no different than any wood-framed (stick-built) home in Florida. Hell, this is built better, frankly. You could even lathe and stucco the outside. Just stay out of corrupt Lee County.
You can get a pretty large warehouse for $6k. 30x40 or so, steel roof and siding. no insulation.
StarSeed -
Get a pole barn and pull a trailer into it. Won’t have much of a view out the window but that’s what outdoor living is for. Just make sure to run any exhaust (from a heater for example) outside.
@@chucknoob7041 I seen the owners of a private camp ground do that but they put a row of windows on the front of the building and bay window in trailer. They had a nice sun porch The trailer was a large travel trailer.
Buy a cheap RV, place RV in pole barn, and there you go, shed to home conversion complete, add bedrooms outside and I doubt code enforcement will give you and issues, just tell them it’s for storage.
The reason you feel the wind is because the roof is not completed.
In order to keep the roof from turning into an ice dam you need to have cold air circulating underneath the surface of the roof with the insulation against the ceiling.
In Georgia you have to follow all the building codes zoning codes electric codes septic codes and it has to be a certain size with a cement pad foundation and only a handful of counties even allow tiny houses.they make it impossible here to even build a regular house
Yikes that’s crazy!

love how you did your home also !
Thanks for what you said about United Portable Buildings... I've been thinking abot working with them.
a big reason you can "feel" the winds is because the walls are not 16" on center, its not secured to the ground, no insulation, no drywall, and the windows aren't the same quality as windows in a true home
Customized it how ever you want vary nice
If I had enough money skill and land I'd love the 2nd one. Ofc upgraded. Just for 2 people it's perfect.
The sheds are made of OSB which burns like cotton and sucks up water like a sponge.Trade out the roofing for metal. Install rock wool insulation cuz it don't burn and then drywall it. If they place it on piers they do not have to worry about water damage.
Yeah, good morning y'all! Thanks I'm so tired on our broken old RV. Thinking more about these lately!

My art studio is a converted tuff shed... so true about trusting the builder- I had some problems with mine (the guy ended up getting fired because he actually stole the job from another employee...he didn’t want to be found out so it was a rushed job, and there were issues with ceiling height and window placing....) anyhow, it’s been my studio for 15 years. I recently had to decide between a barn or a camper. The barns were even smaller than this and costed over 15k. The camper was only 4.5k and then another 2.5k in repairs and changing a few things. Would have loved one of those 2 story ones though.
Thank you for telling about the company buddy 🤩👍

5:20 you can feel the wind in them because they have vents in them, no different than the 8x10 you get to put your riding lawn mower in.
I do sheetrock and mudding, so yea, I thought about doing this same thing years ago with that same shed, but I am single and know my way around the house plumbing. The reason I didn't though is because I lived in tornado valley.
I totally smashed it when you said to. 👍 truth.
Omg love yalls home!
The problem with the Shed conversion is that many local governments in the US will not approve the property for someone to live in it. Many of the sheds are not built to the correct housing codes for local cities. If the city won't approve it for occupancy then they won't issue a certificate of occupancy which means that utilities cannot be hooked up nor can someone legally live in the unit.
Also, many of the sheds are stamped with a S meaning that they were designed and built only for storage.
The zoning restrictions are what will torpedo this sort of project.
I am a bachelor, that larger unit is perfect for me. But I don't think that I would be allowed to build it as a residence. If I could build it on a poured foundation basement that is on a grade that would allow for a basement garage, it would be more than perfect for me.
Two story building can be colder & hotter in different circumstances
Absolutely. Started to a long time ago
❤you guys. Hoping you are your family are doing good.
I find this fascinating! Here in the UK I doubt we would get planning permission to build one!! So many rules and regs. But looks awesome.... hi from a new sub who is also a family of 6 who homeschool and homesteads.... just in a different country!! 😂
Clarkson getting constantly harassed building his little shop tells me you're completely right. If a crazy rich dude needs to fight to build a small building in the middle of a field, regular people don't stand a chance
I wanted to add a room to my house and this seems to be a great idea. Just insulation and a additional bathroom. Build it next to the house with a door to separate.
i thought the same thing with buying one of these and just sticking it against our house to have an expansion. but the contractor guy told us they cant do that, that it has to be placed like 7 feet from your main house, he said "fire safety reasons" which makes no sense to me.
@@Think-dont-believe once they put it down they dont care what you do with it. but they will absolutely not put it near any other buildings, they said its a fire hazard. if you wanna get a fork lift after and pick the building up and push it against your house, thats perfectly fine. but they wont help you do it
If I were to pull my ridge cap all the clips on every stud holding my roof down bring in a beam and pick it with a skytrak I have that option to extend the walls higher just as long as long as my walls are tied together my downstairs walls were built in 4ft sections so if I wanted to take out for foot reframe it and build an addition on the side I can do that very easily I like these sheds tiny homes whatever I would never go back to a regular house

Always choose the second story. My idea for the second story would be digging to end the bank at our hill and make the driveway for the bottom part and then the upper driveway for the top part and of course, install a door in the top part at the back so you wouldn’t have to do all the climbing all the time I will keep the bedroom upstairs. I paid $12,000 for a 10 x 24 shed. Anyways, I paid $12,000 for a 10 x 24 shed with a garage door and a side door a regular door and it had one loft. I would much much rather had a two story search and get the best deal out there. Make sure you get nice quality good quality stuff. and test it out for what you’re going to use it for walk in it several times, imagine carrying boxes and or carrying stuff in bags and blah blah blah. Make sure it fits what you want before you buy it. Don’t regret what you got like me. Check around you may find some repossessions my aunt got one right at $6000 and it had stuff in it. She cleaned it heart Pine Hall kind a good valuable stuff.
Title is misleading. There was no conversion.

Its click bait
great video
thank you
Thank you too!
My house is only 20x25 and one story. 2 bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen. We are 4 people in house. It cost 237,000 back in 2005. By the time we pay off mortgage we will have paid over 1 million dollars.
I would move into the two full second story shed buildings. Your kids are only going to get taller and taller as they grow up.
Yes.
Tuff Shed no longer offers a second floor option (unless you get one of the really big barns), they offer lofts only and the barn style has a head clearance of only 5 ft. Probably because of zoning laws, here in AZ lofts are fine by second stories require all kinds of permitting and inspections.
Oh wow :(
They still sell the two stories just not in certain areas due to lack of finding builders that can do that complicated of a build
Bruh a family of 6 in 800 sqft? Jesus man I bet y’all step on each others toes a lot
Back in the day's people lived in small cabins with an outhouse. Families were closer and not in debt The more we have the more we have to work to pay for all the thing's we acquire that at time's are not even necessary. I speak from experience. Less is more sometimes when you'r not a slave to the system.
@@thinkforyourselfjohn3163 Wow, I guess I didn't realize that this was the norm once haha! Thanks for the reminder

Goofed on last line.... it was built over a period of 2years on weekends it cost me approximately 30,000 dollars to build I also built the floor on concrete piers. It is a great idea that works.
The house I grew up in, in Chicago, was only a 738 (648 without utility room) square foot (1st floor) Sears catalog house built in 1917. Livingroom, kitchen, bathroom, small bedroom on the first floor, utility/laundry room, and a hallway leading up to the attic. The attic, converted into bedrooms for me and my sister, with a 1/2 bath (just enough for toilet and sink) and you could only stand up in about 2/3 of it, 'cause the pitch of the roof on each side. Only two closets in the whole house--one in the hallway and one in the kitchen. Huge front porch and detached 1 car garage.
So, your house is comparable to the size of that house. Shed or not, that is a totally livable house especially if you got land. We were lucky in that the house was on the small side, but we had a big double lot with a lot of trees--two apple trees that would blossom every spring and bear fruit through summer. It was our garden of eden.
I would love to live in one of these, im single no young kids and can always add on to it
They have some of these in slozark Alabama. Theater are smaller inside then you think.
You had me at shameless, "like button plug" #1 🤣
