I don't get why South African teams aren't acknowledged to have the same skill set as Kiwi teams. Plenty of skills on display at schoolboy level, There have been any number of skilfull , tactically astute Bok players at Super Level. When we started playing South African teams on a regular basis at Super Rugby level I was sure it would only be a matter of time before they caught up with our skill and fitness level and their sheer size would give them an advantage. Our kids start playing at 5 years old but many players start later.. Do South African kids start later?? Even in our junior grades a lot of the players selections are tilted towards size matters the theory being you can't teach size but you can teach skills. But still a place for the Duncan Mckenzies..
Our kids start playing in primary school at grade 1.. 6 yrs old. But without tackling. More like touch rugby. To avoid injuries. My missus is a school teacher and I get to watch the little guys play. The only negative is the bloody parents. Absolute pains in the arse. The kids just want have fun without been yelled at. Much easier coaching in an orphanage.

The problem with SA style of play is that is is TOO predictable. If it will ALWAYS go that way (kicking) then the physicality can be counteracted by having more players there in defence. There has to be variation in the SA attack game to keep defending players undecided as to their positioning in defence. You cannot cover every position/location on defence, but if the opposing team is utterly predictable, you KNOW where the attack will be you can cover it. When the Boks varied their attack, the ABs had a tough time adjusting the defence.
Exactly and thats what happened this past Saturday, NZ were dropping the 3 outside backs deep for the kick and that opened up space for the Boks to attack more. This needs to happen and very more often to get that more well rounded game. I do believe we have missed Cheslin Kolbe massively and the completely out of form Willie le Roux who is usually so important to our counter attacking has not helped either. But yes i agree from the start of the B&I Lions series till the 1st test against NZ we were just to robotic and 1 dimensional. Lastly with the end of year tour coming up, i really really want to see Aphelele Fassi play at least 2 of the 3 tests at fullback, this kid has huge huge potential to be s superstar up there with Chslin

Refreshingly honest opinion from Mallett - the Springboks have a better set piece than the NZ and Aus teams but also less skills. Overall, I feel that the Springboks are more reliant on the referees who may reward them for their dominance during a game. In contrast, the counter-attacking teams aren't as influenced by the varying degrees of a referee's assertiveness. These are all factors which make a game of rugby less predictable.
@@increasepeace4996 it was said with a bit of banter in mind... i wont deny nz has had our number but since the beating nz gave us in 2017 6 of the last 7 games has ended within 2 pts including a draw, which would suggest the boks have managed to close the gap to nz a bit.

If you want South African DNA look at the amazing skills and backline moves of any of the top SA school rugby games. This nonsense about domkrag being the SA DNA is rubbish. Yes, your forwards need to earn the right to go wide, as always, and in any team.
Every player has a number, indicating what his function is. Props are there to scrum, locks to jump in lineouts, and so it continues up to number 15. If every player does what is expected of him in that position, the team wins the game. Wingers are not supposed to scrum, and locks are not supposed to run, period.
@@dirkfolscher3001 All players as professional rugby players are supposed to be able to catch and pass. It annoys the shit out of me when the scrumhalf is caught in a ruck and the flankers/winger cannot pass from the ruck. It's honestly not that difficult if you know the right technique. Also the benefit of having big locks and props is NOT to run over people, but to be able to pass out of the tackle more easier. SA players never seem to realise this.
@@mikezog1030 Nah, you need to run over people sometimes, if you can manage to physically(and mentally) impose your will on the opponent, that's already one step towards victory.
Good comments by NM, straight talker. But comment about the good refereeing is mealie....the ref almost ruined the game....if the players start hitting out at each other usually the ref is to blame for allowing/ being blind for continuous and deliberate infringements....both sides!
WHY!!!??? WHY do the antipodean teams have more skill? WHY is this rubbish allowed to propagate and become truth? SA has massively skilled players - they just get kicked to the curb in favour of big players. The Blitzboks have HUGE skill. They just decided that smaller, faster, more skilled players are better and went that way instead of trying to run over backlines. And look how it worked for them...
@@christoduplessis8177 I am not saying to abandon forward dominance. Just that we need to arm ourselves with other weapons besides maul and lineouts and scrums. We easily have the talent in SA for attacking prowess like the ABs, but for some reason this is simply not developed.

Most international teams have used injury breaks lineouts and scrums to slow down the game against All Blacks so hardly worth while bitching about the Boks. Blame the ref and the rules for letting it happen.

You can change size (and shape) to a certain degree through diet. But you aren't going to turn Faf into RG Snyman.
@@mikespencer4922 same here for first 2 years they play tag footy so no tackle just pull the tags off the side of the shorts. Then tackle from about 8 years old.

Oi! What is the answer to the Quiz questioN! Naas Botha?
Surely by now, these guys should know that Nienaber sent the waterboy to ask about the 50-22? Nienaber himself said so in the press conference _right after the game_ , and said he had misunderstood the rule and sent the waterboy to query it.
yeah I'm a bit dissapointed world rugby didn't fine sa rugby or something because that waterboy was verbally abusing that ref and that's not ok. just because you think the rules should've been something else
@@georgemeyer850 How do you know he was "verbally abusing" him? What did he say? Looked to me like he was trying to get the guy's attention about the call for the 50-22.
Exactly why I hate it when some genius at WR decides to trial some adopted rule from rugby league, I don't blame Nienaber for his confusion over something ripped off from the 40-20 rule.
@@interestedbystander196 youre not even aloud to do just that. go and influence a ref to make a decision thats in youre favour. you look at him when he does it. he gets in the refs face and starts shouting because hed not getting what he wants..disgraceful

That looks like a nice rugby show.

If you want South African DNA look at the amazing skills and backline moves of any of the top SA school rugby games. This nonsense about domkrag being the SA DNA is rubbish. Yes, your forwards need to earn the right to go wide, as always, and in any team.
Agreed. i think we have some of the best runners in the world, we are just not using them
Amen!!
Jannie De Beer? Or was that against England?

Jannie the most in total. But dont know against NZ. My Guess Jannie.
Good comments by NM, straight talker. But comment about the good refereeing is mealie....the ref almost ruined the game....if the players start hitting out at each other usually the ref is to blame for allowing/ being blind for continuous and deliberate infringements....both sides!
Who kicked the most dropgoals against NZ?
Can be either Colin Beck, Naas Botha, Jannie de Beer.
I think it might be further back in time like Gerald Bosch.
Answer is…Percy Montgomery
You know we are current World Champs and ranked 1st in the world for 15s whilst the 7s got 5th at the Olympics 😉
@@christoduplessis8177 I am not saying to abandon forward dominance. Just that we need to arm ourselves with other weapons besides maul and lineouts and scrums. We easily have the talent in SA for attacking prowess like the ABs, but for some reason this is simply not developed.

South Africans attitude of current have destroyed a once formidable force in rugby.
South Africa ,Australia and New Zealand used to play open running rugby which only the New Zealand team is still adopting while South Africa have turned to a more physical application.
They should be greatful for a referee that gave them great help by allowing the slowing down of the play.
South Africans seems to enjoy every win of late as if ,they are the newbies of world rugby.
I didn't watch the game.
It just seemed predictable now a days but surprised with the outcome eventually.
Congratulations South Africa.
May the next be allowed to flow without the unnecessary stoppages.
Most international teams have used injury breaks lineouts and scrums to slow down the game against All Blacks so hardly worth while bitching about the Boks. Blame the ref and the rules for letting it happen.
How can you comment about the ref and south africa slowing the game if you didn't even watch it? Nz were the ones trying to slow it down in the second half cause they were flustered at how quick the boks were playing. Go watch the game then we'lll talk
