      Some of us old guys with some colorful pasts have a bit of a natural shake so freestyle (2 hands) is a better idea for us.

      beginners are better off shooting 2 hands to build confidence. Once they can put all of their shots into the black, then the training wheels will need to come off and shoot 1 handed for the match to count.

  • @mikek8089

    In our league you must shoot one handed, and no leaning or resting on anything. We shoot 30 round matches. 4 targets.....2 slow, and 1 each for timed and rapid.

      Thanks for pointing that out. Most have always been one hand. Ours started to allow two hands a couple years back. I think a wise move as
      the number of shooters has been going down, and allowing two hands
      (some no doubt prefer one hand) I feel encourages shooters. I go back to when there were almost no scopes in use. Hard core iron sight shooters almost considered it cheating to use optics. Thanks again for pointing this out. O.R.

      @@mikek8089 My only though is what happens when age of the eyes makes it pretty much impossible to focus on the sights. If you’re
      lucky that will never happen. We know how important a good sight picture is, and not having that really takes the fun out. I pretty much stopped handgun shooting when it happened. No dots on black powder replica revolver matches. O.R.

      @@mikek8089 A few years back I asked the eye Dr about this and got glasses that have the right lens focus at arms length. The left is normal correction for nearsighted. I use these for shooting iron sights but removed during loading. Noticed lately that I was forgetting to take them off because I think my brain or something got used to them. Its not perfect because the target is blurred, but at least I can get a good sight picture. O.R.

    Can you explain how the scoring for an alibi works? Do they score all the extra shots, or just take the lowest 10 per target, or what?

    • @mikek8089
      @mikek8089 2 года назад +1

      Jeff, you take the 10 lowest on the timed or rapid, or the five lowest on the slow. In our league, we use 2 slow fire targets and change after 5 shots. The changing of the slow fire targets has more to do with centerfire guns, as (if you're skilled enough) one can blow out the center of the target, then cheat and "dump" the last 5 in the backstop. So, using 2 slow fire targets prevents a shooter from doing such antics.

    • @jeffshootsstuff
      @jeffshootsstuff 2 года назад +2

    • @mikek8089
      @mikek8089 2 года назад +3

      @@jeffshootsstuff, I should've also stated that there really is no reason to call an alibi on slow fire, as one usually has plenty of time to clear a malfunction.

    I think your local league is leading the way there! I would love to see Precision Pistol everywhere including Camp Perry open a two handed class. Just as with the optics class it will bring in more competitors. The one hand only and iron sight only can still have a class. More trigger time for everyone is a good goal.

      Point is well taken. I’ve always felt that if the bar is raised too high, lots of interested people will just say to heck with that. I remember a “civil war skirmish “ where someone got the stupid idea of challenging the pistol shooters by having them shoot at clays at 50 yards. Next match, most left their side guns at home, or never bothered to dirty them. No fun if all you do is miss, most know they are not top tier, but do like the feeling of connecting once in a while. Thanks for your input. O.R.

    Is this an nra event? I'm in a shooting club in europe, we shoot only issf disciplines with 22lr. I would like to suggest this competition, as it can be shot with "normal" match pistols, i.e. no orthopedic grips.

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@leonda4817 Hi. Thanks for your comment. Are optics allowed in your competition? This is not NRA match. It is a local event that generally follows NRA rules, but can make changes on approval of members of the shooting league. It has become less strict to encourage shooters. There has been a downward enrollment during the last 40 years, so making the rules less strict is an attempt to keep the league active in this area of the state. O.R.

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  Год назад +1

      Traditionally that is correct. This league has ok’ed two hands. Couple reasons I believe is that it encourages younger shooters, especially those that have been trained to shoot this way. This helps, as many shooters won’t go with the more difficult disciplines. It also helps older shooters to feel and shoot some better and keeps them involved. O.R.

      Yes, no restrictions I am aware of. Doesn’t need to be a semi automatic, just that “top guns” looking for high scores use them. My brother competed for years using a double action S&W 4 inch model K. Of course it must be 22 cal. O.R.

    I notice that all shooters are using a two-hand hold!?? All matches I’ve ever participated in was strictly off-hand hold encluding center-fire in a two-gun league. It’s been awhile for me and I don’t know of any rule or class changes that would effect the NRA scoring here. However, a great video of the process and scoring.

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  Год назад +1

      Thanks John. I believe two hands was a local change in this league. Mostly due to older shooters and the attempt to encourage more shooters, especially younger that are more comfortable with this style. Some of the more experienced shooters were reluctant to change at first, but I think went to it because of being able to score better. That’s just my guessing. Thanks. O.R.

    Sad if this is what precision pistol shooting has came to. I completed in the 80s an coached two teams. My average was 590. Both teams average were 445 an a team average 565. Slow fire targets bullseye were same diameter as .22 bullet. One hand only. Not one shooter in this video took the first step in pistol marksmanship, which is a proper stance. This is a sad example of precision pistol formalities.

    One more question: Do most people shoot 2-handed or does anyone do the classic one-handed Bullseye stance? I imagine 2-handed is quite an advantage. Personally I'm lucky if I can keep them on the paper one-handed LOL

    • @oldranger3044
      @oldranger3044  2 года назад +2

      No problem Jeff, questions are welcome and may help others thinking about the same. The league here started allowing two hands several years ago. Some of the top scoring shooters claimed that higher scores could be done one hand. Gradually most, and possibly all, have gone with two and higher scores are being shot I believe. If one doesn’t practice holding a heavy weight like that of a geared up pistol, a single arm will fatigue. Especially in timed and rapid fire where resting is not an option. Some may disagree on this, but its the way I see it. O.R.

      @@oldranger3044 I feel that they needed to make this classic sport approachable, one handed shooting is difficult to learn and many new shooters would not be interested in trying Bullseye if one handed was the rule. many people will switch to one handed as a new challenge later and become more confidant. that's my two cent's worth. - Dave
