I think Samsung Gear VR messed up my eyes. When I close my eyes I can't see.

There is no cover because the phone would overheat with all that hot air being trapped inside.

lolwutdavid lmaoo they actually made something like that. Not by Samsung but a different company. It works as a fan for cooling and an extra battery/charger.

I glued a small fan inside the cover. It works great to cut down on heat and steaming up the lens.
I've gone through a full charge on the battery without the phone even getting warm.
I took the fan out of an old dead laptop. It was just the right size and was meant to vent out the side of the laptop, so it pushes the hot air out the top. I hooked it up to a tiny old portable phone charger and glued that to the outside of the cover. It adds a few ounces to the front of the headset, but it is worth it. You can buy similar things on Ebay or Amazon, but I like mine better and it cost nothing but time and junk that was laying around.
my S7 gets super hot after 20 30 min and stop working , a complete failure imo

No, that's a legit question. Obviously, Samsung won't want the controller to work with any other phone/headset combination, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. The Daydream controller has already been hacked to work on PCs. It's just a matter of intercepting and analyzing the wireless protocol.

Right off the bat, your first major point is the lack of a cover as a "major design change" and it makes you feel "a bit more unguarded, just because you don't know if the phone will accidentally come off."
For one thing, the same was true of the predecessor, released in 2016, so that "major design change" was made last year. Second, anyone who used the original consumer GearVR can tell you that the "cover" on that model was mostly cosmetic, and would not have done much to prevent the phone from falling out.
If your review has multiple fundamental flaws like this one minute in, it's hard to justify investing the time to watch further.

Guys buy samsung gear vr 2015 u can buy it now as cheap as 40 to 50 buck and if ur lucky u can buy it for 30 bucks in ebay . There are lot of people selling there samsung gear vr 2015 and updating to new samsung gear vr 2017. So hurry go to ebay
THEY NEED TO FIX THE STEAMING AND DUST ISSUE. I WOULD SERIOUSLY USE IT ALOT MORE IF THEY DO THAT. BY ALOT MORE, I MEAN MORE THAN 2X IN 2 YEARS.

just curious, the gear vr has a dedicated app for youtube so the movies I'd rent or buy I'd be able to watch them using gear vr right, since Netflix doesn't always have movies available for streaming also you can't crop Netflix to Samsung's "aspect ratio"(yet) if I feel like watching on my S8+ do the movies on youtube automatically adjust to the S8+ "aspect ratio"
Hello. Can you please give me some feedback about the quality of display in s8+ and new gear vr vs let's say s6 edge+ and consumer edition(2016). Mainly I am interested in quality of the movies since I use Gear Vr as my personal 3d movies theatre.

Your asking too much for a $120 VR headset Gezzz... Only thing I don't like is that they should have a cover so u can use a ice pack for when it heats up
His cons are really subjective. To be honest I ha d the rift and the gear. I find myself using the gear because I'd much rather watch Netflix in bed or RUclips. The games will never be good as of yet and all the vr exclusive games I've played are good but better with the rift. I like my gear

Why do the images bend and warp as I move my head in the new gear vr?? It ruins the whole experience. Its like looking through a glass bottle :( and being on acid when all outlines bend like jelly

I'm waiting for my free Gear VR and have a question for you, which is more of a concern. I wear glasses and noticed that you didn't address any adjustments for people with eye prescriptions. In my case as a diabetic, my vision fluctuates where even my glasses aren't always tuned to my eyesight. Well, my question is, does the Gear VR have a vision adjuster? Years ago, I had binoculars that adjusted to one's own vision; no glasses necessary; hoping for some of the same, thanks.

2 questions. 1: wtf is the point of the usb port on the headset? it can't charge the dang phone nor can I use it to tether my headset to my computer with riftcat. 2: can I connect 2 of samsung's controllers to the device for 2-handed functionality, or did samsung say 'screw you, you get only one'?

Does the new 2017 Gear VR headset has the same distortion (image warping) problem as the 2016 model had? I mean when you focus on an abject while turning your head around, is the image still stretching/warping like crazy?? The 2016 model was a huge disappointment because of this distortion problem... I wonder if Samsung/Oculus corrected that. They state "The headset has the same FOV and lens size as the 2016 Gear VR but apparently now has 'advanced distortion correction technology to minimize motion sickness'." - I hope that's true. Can you please confirm? :-)
Hey. I picked up the Gear VR for my Note 8 and I've been facing issues with the clarity. Regardless of how I adjust the lens distance, it doesn't enhance the quality to what we see in your video. I've cleaned the lenses, even removed my scratch guard, but it still doesn't help. Is there a way to check the authenticity of the product? I bought it directly from the Samsung web-store. Suggestions please?

I saw you were looking at a webpage in VR at the end of the video - does the added ppi help with reading the text on the pages? How does the resolution on the S8 effect small objects rendered at a distance?

I've NEVER had my phone (S7 Edge) fall out, plus leaving the cover off keeps the phone cooler.
what app is this @4:00 I have a 360 video and I want to view it on Android or iPhone but all apps I tried gives 2 square projection not curved one for easy viewing!

Yeah...well... 360 videos shot with Gear 360 don't work. I've been trying to make the damn video run within Oculus Video app for the past 2 days without success...

Yes apps which are specifically made for the controller around 70 apps are in development.
Oculus Go, seems like a good product if you want to try out Samsung's GearVR platform for as cheap as 199$ without needing a Samsung phone, or any phone actually lol
i wonder if Samsung Themselves would make a standalone GearVR headset as well.
either way, the fight between Daydream and GearVR is now ON.
and considering that Google speculated that Daydream standalone would cost 450-500$.... GearVR would definitely win
so it would be interesting if the Daydream standalone headset manufacturers will lower the prices to 200$ as well and take on the losses or if they will intend on keeping the pricing 450-500$

In my opinion, the best controller for the Gear VR is the new Xbox One controller. It syncs flawlessly and works well with all of my favorite Samsung Gear VR games and apps. In addition, I can also use the controller for my Windows 10 computers as well as other games on my Galaxy S7 Edge phone (and, of course, the Xbox One too).
Nice review. Does the note 8 with a whitestone dome glass screenprotector fit in the 2017 Gear VR (without damaging the screenprotector)?
Question, which Oculus can't seem to answer. I have VR games downloaded from the Google Play store that I want to be able to play (for the kids)... but I can't seem to get to them outside the Oculus menu. What I mean is that, even if I have a Google Play game open, the second I plug in the Galaxy 8 to the headset, the Oculus menu overrides it and I can 'only' get games through their app. Is there a way to play games like I simply can in a cheap headset? Like, even a 'cardboard' one, I could always see games no problem.

There's a game bundle or immersive entertainment bundle which we can choose with the VR offer for Samsung S8+. Would like to know from you guys as to which bundle would be the better option to go with ?
I have the Galaxy 7 Vr headset and I have never used the cover lol. When I use it for more than 20 minutes, my phone usually gives me the, "overheat" message. Not using the cover just makes it quicker for me to take the phone out of the headset. I am very happy that the new head set comes with a controller.
does the s8 overheat? I still use the 2015 white version with my s6 and s7e because there is a mod cover you can buy that has a small fan.
Hellz yea it overheats. Mine got so hot it melted my girlfriend. I got jealous, because I could never make her melt like that, so we got in a huge fight and broke up. She with Essate now. He's apparently always on, and always hot, and I'm just here alone with my bagel...
