Long story short mine didn't and my S7 edge dropped out it the ground and cracked the screen. Sammy kept saying the S7 edge screen isn't covered under regular warranty. They wouldn't even exchange the VR. I sent them pics and video but made no difference to them.
It sucks that it cannot be used as regular bluetooth gamepad for non-vr games. It's quite comfortable to hold and would be nice to have 2in1 for traveling instead of carrying another gamepad.

Bence Kovács I don't have to recalibrate it that often but it's definitely in need of better calibration. Since the S8 is utilizing BT 5.0, quadrupling the range, it may just need software updates. I get some drift watching stuff but for gaming it definitely is distracting and breaks the immersion. Unfortunately the other options don't seem to be much all that much better when controllers run $70+.

I definitely see it could make a comeback especially now with way more eyes on vr ar. 👀

Does anyone know if the latest version of the gear vr has overheating problems? I have a galaxy s9. Does the headset cause battery life issues? Eli George No, the cover is there to protect the lenses from dust, debris when the phone is not in use. The clips to hold the phone seem pretty strong. As far as my experience goes there's not a lot of looking down combined with jumping up & down, the only real scenario I could see the phone coming loose during use. Although I haven't tried shaking the VR headset with the phone in it and not planning to either. It is adjustable to fit the larger S8+ as well as smaller phones and the right clip with the usb c port can be switched out to a usb micro.
cant you just get a third party bluetooth controller, i mean i know it wont work in the apps designed for the gear vr controller and as a pointing device, but it would work fine in games and such
